Don't forget Joel Grey who won an Oscar for Caberet and was in a Voyager episode
Also, Paul Williams and Christopher Plummer.
That was such a heartbreaking episode. I loved how Captain Janeway lovingly dealt with that necklace he gave her that belonged to his daughter
Never forget, that the Voyager episode was a reuniting... Joel Grey and Kate Mulgrew also starred as Chiun and Major Fleming in the kick-ass 80s action flick, “Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins”.
Its not Caberet. Its Cabaret!
Ugh my best friend who i watched Star Trek with passed a few months ago and holly was one of his favorite actresses. I was literally about to text him. This is awesome but also hurts. I’ll be watching for the both of us
Hugs!
This is gonna suck so bad.
@@JL0ndon I said "this is gonna suck so bad", because I thought you were unhappy that you were going to have to watch it alone. As in, it's gonna suck that your friend doesn't get to watch it with you.
@@Estes705 oh sorry it kinda sounded like you meant the show will suck. My apologies. I’ll delete the other comment. Been kinda sensitive lately.
@@JL0ndon No harm, no fowl. It's all good. I'm not sure how good this new show will be, I'm not thrilled with DISCO, but SNW isn't bad IMO.
I love Star Trek myself, thus my avatar. LOL
If your friend can't watch it with you, maybe you could find a "watch buddy" & text each other during the premiere episode. Back in the 80's (before cell phones) I had a good friend that loved Star Trek as much as me, but didn't live near me, but we'd call each other on our home phones (of you're old enough to remember them LOL) when TNG's first season aired. We'd talk to each other from our respective homes while simultaneously watching each episode. It was kinda fun.
Raising Arizona, Broadcast News, Always. My three favorite movies of Holly Hunter. I am so excited to hear the news.
Always is classic!
Oh Brother and Incredibles. Oh Brother is probably my favorite comedy of all time.
This is the only thing that has me excited about star trek after the cancellation of Lower Decks. I haven't even started the newest season of discovery, paramount has killed my interest in star trek. Why watch if they're just going to pull the rug out from under you?
Nothing about Star Trek excites me after all the recent cancelations 😮💨
If I do by chance want to see something I'm definitely not watching on paid streaming services anymore, they'll get no more support from me.
@@Ducky69247 For what it's worth I'm boycotting everything paramount right now. I canceled + minutes after confirming the cancelation of Lower Decks. If, Quiet Place Beverly Hills Cop are now all off my list as well. If I'm going to watch this stuff I'll go to the peninsula of the buccaneers.
And Mrs. Incredible
Michelle Yeoh was hired and the captain version of the character she played got minimized. So, I'm not sure what to make of this. Yeoh's potential portrayal of a captain was wasted by writers who didn't know what to do with her.
no shit. keeping good Yeoh in charge of the Shenzhou would have been a much better series than Bad Yeoh on the Discovery.
@@Welcome2TheInternet I have long wished for a very different path for the series. If they wanted to explore the Klingon War (granted, I hated the redesign of the Klingons but that's another topic), Yeoh has the ideal skills to be an excellent wartime captain: a commanding presence, charisma, and extreme skills in combat. Even if they dropped the Klingon War bit of the series largely due to the mess of the awful redesign, I still would have loved for her to shine as a captain.
Yeoh's schedule as a movie star would likely mean she'd still leave the show as a regular after season 1 or, at the latest, season 2.
But, letting the good Captain version of the character mentor Burnham (and doing away with the whole mutiny and starting a war part of the Burnham plot) would have in my view been better. The two actresses do have good on screen chemistry, so a mentor-mentee relationship involving Yeoh as a good captain would have been much better as far as I'm concerned.
FACTS!!!!
I've always had a crush on Holly Hunter. It would be nice to see Tig reprise her role as an engineering instructor.
Holly Hunter is one of my all time favorite Actors. I could not be more exited for this new series now!
Love the Ninth Doctor in that Star Trek: Enterprise cast photo lol
Why is Eccleston's Doctor hanging out with the NX-01 crew? (9:52)
The trek/whoniverse crossover that never was?
Because Russell T Davies et al; have nothing to do with it.
I paused this 35 seconds in because I am already pumped! Holly Hunter as a Star Trek Captain/Chancellor, yes, please. She is one of my favorite actresses of all time. Michelle Yeoh level greatness here!! (catches breath) OK let me go finish your video. (walks away mumbling "omghollyhunter, omghollyhunter, ...)
Ha same, I messaged ppl to let them know. Holly Hunter was absolutely fantastic in Succession, her character transfixed me.
I am thinking of Yeoh too. I respect both. But I'm worried. Yeoh's portrayal of a captain could have gone done as a Picard level captain (at least) if Yeoh had been given the chance
Historically, hiring an award-winning big screen actress to be your new female captain has not always gone well. Have Mulgrew on standby again!
good one.....
I have to wonder... will we have more Dadmiral Vance? I'm a fan of Oded Fehr and the Dadmiral would fit well into a 32nd century Starfleet Academy series.
Agreed 🙌🏼🖖🏼
Actors I'd love to see on Trek shows: Craig T Nelson (as a Klingon emperor), Sam Neil, Jared Harris, Tom Welling, Claire Danes, Mads Mikkleson, Laurence Fishburne, John Goodman as Harry Mudd.
Some others for me: Jeff Goldblum, Octavia Spencer, Elizabeth Moss.
Those are some EXCELLENT people I’d love to see in Trek.
I'll pray to God above - and to almost any other that would work - to see that list come to fruition on any level. Damn, that's well said.
@lordofthereels6790, John Goodman as Harry Mudd🤔 I don't hate that.
Hear me out: we need and i say NEED Giancarlo Esposito appearing as a badmiral sometime.
This is easily the most Irish I've ever heard Sean speak. Sure, 'tis a grand, glorious thing! _dances a jig_
Plus, did Sean and Kris manage to film, rehears and edit a 13 minute video in a matter of hours? Great work guys... but... make time to get some sleep, eat and stay hydrated, yeah? We care about you.
No matter if people says the opposite. I'm just glad we're getting 2 new Trek movies in 2025-2026.
Let's bring Trek back to the big screens.
Don't think the long treks are set for theaters
And if they are they will be put out for a week. Declare a disappointment then thrown out on streaming.
Need a higher resolution version of the video -- can't make out the titles of most of the books on Sean's bookshelves
"The Piano" was not only about A piano. It's also about an organ. A couple of them really.
What's better than a Daffodil on your Piano?
Tulips on your organ
@@norfolkngood8960 🤣
I went from a solid "meh" on the Academy show, and Holly Hunter's taken it to a a much more interested "hmm".
IKR!
I agree I have no interest in this series based on everything said in the press
dear god no. not the guy that ended two x-men franchises, the phoenix's worst enemy. actually if you're doing a short run series, a big name actor is someone you'd get because they'd be too expensive for a long-haul series.
@@syntrilliumc.e.p.9326 touche. he's either doing great or ending franchises. maybe he does better with one main character.
Enterpise: Romulan war is all i want to see! Formation of the federation and give the NX01 a proper send off (and show us the refit !)
Great addition - maybe the other Oscar winner in The Piano, Anna Paquin can join :) As Ensign Rogue.
Lol. Yes, please!
I always wanted to see a DS9 spinoff about Nog’s experience as the first Ferengi at Starfleet Academy.
Or a similar type character, after the death of Aron Eisenberg.
@@billkerns9258 They may be able to recast the role, but it wouldn't be the same. Aron Eisenberg owns the role of Nog.
@@davidhamilton6612 Agreed, that's why I said a similar type character. Not a recasting of Nog. I agree, certain roes should simply not be recast.
I like how the picture you showed of the Enterprise crew also featured the Ninth Doctor, from a time when it was speculated that he could have made an appearance on the show.
The how you go from WWIII & 1st Contact to the utopia of even the early days of the federation could be an interesting story. All of a sudden humanity is evolved? Nah. It’s not that easy. You could almost surprise the audience with the revea of it being a Trek prequel depending on how they talked about aliens.
Getting Mary Wiseman acting with Holly Hunter would be fun and exciting to see. Why do I see our next Oscar winning Star Trek alumni being none other then Mary Wiseman?
I would LOVE a movie that rounds out Enterprise's story... and maybe they'll prove that Tripp didn't die after all
Yep, he works for Section 31, so Connor Trinneer (Tripp) could theoretically show up in the Section 31 movie.
9:57 Lmao someone didn't realise that Dr. Who is in this graphic
I saw it but I don't get the connection. Is there one ?
@@darren_anscombe It's been re-used from a very recent Whoculture video about possible Doctor Who/Star Trek crossovers.
Right? I was searching IMDB for something I had missed.
Just looking for a lost police box, no big deal...
@@fraserjacksonDecades ago, before the public Internet, I came across a text file titled, "The Captain and the Doctor" (or maybe the other way around). It was before TNG. It starts with the TARDIS in the transporter room.
With the movies…
Green light Tarantino’s Star Trek - get Pine, Quinto and Urban to star with cameos from the rest
Star Trek 4 - give Abrams the director’s chair and let him wind down these characters/timeline
Star Trek Origins: I hope this is the Romulan War saga -
The one thing missing from Enterprise season 5 NEEDS to be a movie: The Romulan War.
I always imagine a 2D animated Romulan Wars TV show with Scott Bakula and the whole Enterprise cast returning as the NX-01 crew and running for 3 seasons.
👍🏾
Showing the Romulan war would have been a more fitting finale for Star Trek Enterprise than the garbage we got with "These Are The Voyages" which forces the entire series to take a back seat and be viewed as Will Riker running a four season holodeck program. A lot of fans, to this day, say that it was more of a finale for Star Trek: TNG than it was for Star Trek: Enterprise.
@@francescozenocchini4428 I've seen a few videos on RUclips that cover the Romulan War. All animated, no characters are ever seen alluding to the canon that both sides fought the war in small ships that allowed no prisoners to be taken, and that any communications between both parties would have been audio only due to lack of technology. They aren't bad, but I would love to see a live action version of the Romulan war playing out. Keep it so they can't see each other for communication and that hey can't take prisoners due to lack of space/resources on their ships.
Ooooohhh Archer teaching at the Academy.
I read the partial video title and got excited thinking they were going to get the X-Men ‘97 guy
but Kurtzman is involved..Are they going have shirts with hems five inches longer on one side for no apparent reason. Yay!! (false enthusiasm.)
Kurtzman uniforms will be competing with JJ Abrams lense flares, both distracting as hell, serve no logical purpose and end up making you say "WTF".
Ya, I am not as excited about this casting as you seem to be. I can't remember her in anything except as Elastigirl, and I have apparently seen several movies she is in. And sadly her recent IMDB profile doesn't look good either.
The question is when is it set, is it going to be set in the 31st century, Discovery timeline, or is it going to be set in the original timeline of TWOK, which would be awesome....but somehow I don't think that's going to happen
Why is Christopher Eccleston in the picture with Star Trek Enterprise crew??? As far as I know the 9th Doctor never visited the NX-01.
Maybe they are hoping to cast him for a character in the movie?
Yeah, I saw "The Piano" in the theater as well when I was 13 and thought it was fabulous. It was around the same time that I saw "The Wedding Banquet" and "Like Water For Chocolate", also in the theaters, and needless to say at this point that I had rather permissive parents. I was already familiar with Holly Hunter from her work in "Broadcast News", a movie that I thought was absolutely magnificent when I was growing up, and a movie that also stars my all time favorite actor, Mr. William Hurt. I would OLEV if he magically showed up in a Star Trek, but I won't hold my breath, and am quite happy to see Holly Hunter helming a new outing of my favorite franchise.
my favorite Holly Hunter movie is still Little black book. Also loved her as Mrs. Incredible (Elastigirl) from the Incredibles.
I hope that she gets good story writers.
There is nothing as annoying to me as the captain of a ship constantly crying and talking about their feelings cough cough Disco cough.
I really liked the TOS episode where Kirk clearly stated that the crew must never ever see him in a weakened state.
And I wholeheartedly agree with that perspective.
The whole star fleet Academy premise still sucks though as a series
I've said several times I'm not crazy about Academy, and unfortunately after what the writer's did with Tilly in season 4 made her my least liked character in all Trek ( Mary Wiseman is awesome though 👍). Hearing about Holly Hunter though gives me hope. I'm still going to check it out. I've never passed on ANYTHING Trek. 🤞🤞
She is an exceptional actress and I think she will be perfect in the role. Job well done by the casting director. - She was hot in "The Piano", I mean great acting.
Holly: I'm IN.
Tilly: I'm OUT. OUT OUT OUT.
Good thing for me that this will be about the time I start another rewatch of DS9, then Voyager, then TNG, Discovery, DS9, voyager, etc.
If I wanted to watch kids attending the Academy and learning how to run a Starship I'd watch Prodigy... which I did, and loved! (bring on S2!!)
Scott Bakula as Fed Prez please!
TBH not really looking forward to this series. Hope I'm totally wrong.
Agreed
Holly Hunter is one of my blind spots. It's like I have to look her up every time her name comes is mentioned, because surely I should know who she is if so many praise her, say 'oh yeah, she's proper famous and talented', then promptly forget again.
One credit people might not be aware of: Crash, not the ineptly executed Los Angeles set film about race relations that won the best picture Oscar, but rather the weird, Los Angeles set erotic, body horror movie about people who fetishize car crashes and car crash injuries, directed by David Cronenberg (Kovich from Star Trek: Discovery).
This softens the blow of Disco ending
I'll finish watching this tomorrow after I've had a chance to calm down from my rant... 🤣
Looking forward to this if true. Holly Hunter is a fantastic actor.
Star Fleet Academy could be the ultimate legacy show that allows crew to revisit different situations throughout history of Star Fleet
Who will play Boothby?
sean ferris!!!!
You mean Boothby XXIV? Annie Potts.
@@Xerxes2005 That would work.
It would be a great twist if at the end of the movie Boothby is revealed to be a Q or maybe an Organian, that is on Earth to give guidance to the future Captains of the Federation.
It is interesting that when Mary Wiseman was asked recently if she is still attached to the project, she just smiled and declined to comment further. Which makes me wonder if getting Holly Hunter is going to push the show in a different direction.
The piano. Excellent performance. Looking forward to her joining the family.
Looking forward to Academy!
an nx era movie would be epic special we see the nx refit on screen and take place after the show and i love to see archer back awesome with all the trek tv news now i love to see some damn game news
If they just let us upgrade samples.
And eventually. Super samples into Blue credits.
Even if not was max Supers for only 10 Blue creds.
I loved her in the series Saving Grace.
Star Trek 4 is going to be hard to write. After all they've already retold the Wrath of Khan three times in a row, so it's really hard to come up with a new way to retell the same story.
Nice sneaky _Enterprise / Who_ crossover confirmation in there. 😆
In the recent Doctor Who Space Babies episode, Doctor mentions to his companion Ruby that "we should visit them [Star Trek universe] one day".
I love how Star Trek keeps getting these actors and actresses who have racked up Oscars and Emmy's and nominations for various awards.
Love the casting. Knit pick: Shouldn’t it be a “commandant” who holds flag rank (commodore or greater)? Also, would love an “Enterprise the film” but REALLY wish they would finally get to the Romulan War and the official proclamation of the UFP.
I enjoy trek movies, some more than other. But how about a movie about the temporal war
Holly Hunter is a great actress. If the writing is good, the producers may already be off to a great start.
I saw X-Men III in theatres back in the day. Came out of that movie thinking, "I'm on Magneto's side." (I had to wait until X-Men 97 - Magneto was right). If Kinberg wrote the Magneto parts we're good.
They may have blown the budget on Holly and the set, and the writing could be 'shite'. I've had the impression that Starfleet Academy wasn't all teens and Twenty somethings, but people who have worked and lived on ships before. They'll need a few of those to keep some older viewers like yours truly. As for the #4 movie. They've taken so long, I've pretty much lost interest; and this is as a 50 year+ Star Trek fan.
Can't be worse than what discovery turned into 😂
I love how these videos still show spots for other videos, but nothing shows up there.
Who do I need to send money to to get a Commander Schran series greenlit?
Two wins for Paramount: “Star Fleet Academy” and Oscar winner Holly Hunter! 😎💞🛸
Didn't know there was going to be an academy series lol
Holly is perfect for this role. She has a natural aura of authority that I think will translate well into that character. I'm excited about this.
Mark my words - Starfleet Academy is going to end up being the fan (or cult) favourite Star Trek show that turns out better than anyone expects it to. I’m calling it now.
I doubt it. It's going antagonize fans that wanted more classic Trek like SNW or that planned Star Trek Legacy series.
So far it looks like that Battlestar Galactica spinoff Caprica. Even more focus on dramas and relationships, rather than good Sci Fi. Soap Opera fans will be happy. Others? Not so much. Will it sell? Not sure.
@@inquerion8867 I mean fair, but we’re also talking about a segment of the fan base who still believes Star Trek should look like a cheap low budget 60s production “BeCuZ mUh CaNoN,” soooo I’m going to be giving it a chance to wow me on its own merit instead of listening to the fan base. Don’t get me wrong - I’m right there with everyone on wanting good, respectful Star Trek, but I don’t think it has to be traditional Star Trek to be those things. I mean people forget how truly radical DS9 being set on a space station instead of a starship was back in the 90s, and yet it has now become the darling of the fanbase. You can’t please everyone, and the worst mistake writers could make imo is to try. See - Rise of Skywalker over in Star Wars land.
Holly Hunter got it several steps closer to it, for sure.
I wish I had your optimism about it.
I'm beginning to think you could be right. With this announcement I'm now fully on board whereas before I was actually *dreading* this show. It also goes without saying that the overall demographics will be highly tilted towards the 18-34 bracket just due to the nature of the show. Suddenly this looks like a very hot property.
“A Life Less Ordinary” - she rocked in that one, too!
She has worked with Brent Spiner in Miss Firecracker.
And Alfre Woodard
Prodigy season 2 dropped on Netflix in France already…no date on when it’ll be released elsewhere
Excellent Sean. Happy to have the "gossip" and rumour...although some of this looks like "its happening but we havent got details yet". There is several places you could put an "origin" story. By the look of the Uniforms though (if anything is to be relied upon) it could be a pre-SNW - post ENT film. This seems to be the territory that Axanar was targetting. What brought about the creation of the "Constitution" class starships (of which the first was the USS Constitution) might make an interesting storyline. Or it might not. I could think of several avenues that could be explored from TOS featuring an entirely different set of characters....although probably not post-TOS given the uniforms.
I like the Kelvyn movies. Especially the first one.
Doug Jones from “Voyager” has an academy award for his work in “The Shape of Water” if memory serves.
I would just like more than 8-10 episodes to get a deeper story.
Origin story=Romulan War/Forming of the UFP? Now that would be awesome!
if the Callister movie (as ive been calling it in my mind) ends up being a NX01/Enterprise movie, and they want to recast those characters, i really hope they get Todd Stashwick in there. He'd be great as Archer or Tripp.
I thought the thumbnail was a Discovery spoiler....I was about to LAMBASTE you Sean haha. You forgot to mention James Cromwell...while not a winner, he was an Oscar nominee.
Holly Hunter as Captain Kobyashi Maru. They will name the test after her once this Captain perishes in the third episode.
the news i am most looking forword to strange new worlds and lower deck and prodigy special prodigy is my favorite of all modern star trek
I hope that SNW S3 will be more similar to S1 rather than S2. I liked S1 better.
@@inquerion8867 one thing i love to see in snw is enterprise taking alots of damage and get refited into the tos connie but i do hope season 3 of the show will be a mist of both season i love season 2 more then 1 and i love to see more james kirk
Ya, but it's still Alex Kurtzman. I will be pleasantly amazed if either project is watchable. I loved Hunter in Saving Grace, but it's all in the writing and CW writing is CW writing.
If JJ Abrams is directing the prequel movie, I hope he doesn't use any of those idiotic light flairs that he relied on heavily in the 3 Kelvin timeline Star Trek movies. Sometimes less is more.
Christopher Plummer would like a word
Holly Hunter would be a better choice to play an admiral. not a captain. Why at 66 she would still be a captain makes no sense. She would easily be an admiral.
Good casting. Mind you, it's not the first time a sci-fi/comic franchise cast Oscar winners, take the original X-Men movies... They had three
Sean, please stop teasing me with the return of the NX-01 crew. My ST: Enterprise lovin' heart can't take the strain. 🖖
I keep hoping they'll bring back the NX-01 crew in some capacity. I know Connor and Dom was working on their podcast and all the sudden they weren't. :( but that was right about the time Section 31 started filming but to think of a possible reboot and continuance of the original Enterprise series would be awesome. I'm still reading them, but I'm at a part of the books where Trip is undercover as a Romulan spy... so no spoilers but we all know he didn't really die and that These are the Voyages never happened. 😂 Just like with Lower Decks, I need so much more!
Oh, great. JJ Abrams and StarTrek. Can't wait to see what damage he does. Because we clearly didn't learn a damn thing last time.
Wait, why is Christopher Eccleston in the Enterprise photo?
Shame they didn't ask Holly to Play Captain Rachael Garrett in the "Lost Era" Series. I think she'd be great in the role.
I love this channel and I love you Sean but, I backed it up like three different times and you referred to the Black Mirror episode of the USS Calendar. It was the USS Callister. Possibly my absolute favorite Black Mirror episode.
Other than that, love your work, love your dedication, keep it going, and I cannot wait for section 31 personally!
I forgot to mention, I absolutely love Holly Hunter. For her to join the Trek universe would be so awesome!
With Holly Hunter attached I'm way more interested in this show now, I just wish it was set post-Picard and not on the 32nd century.
I can't think of a show I am less interested in.
Love Holly Hunter! Also, your beardseems uneven. Maybe it's the lighting, but it seems higher on your right cheek...
Now I am obsessing on noticing that, 😂
LOL now I can’t unsee it!
Trek origin story?
There's a big timeline gap between meeting Zefram Cochrane in "First Contact" & episode 1 of Enterprise.
In; Strange New Worlds. The captain was riding a horse. Holly Hunter might do a opening title for a show again. Riding bareback. Two horses and 2 actors riding into the sunset. Singing something better then "I've got faith" should work .......Right!
