I want to join Bluecoats ‘24 so badly! Just a tad bit nervous though. I’d have to transfer from trombone to baritone😅Lots of adjustment and preparation for sure but I’m excited to go for it while I can!
Good luck, thankfully the switch from a slide to valve instruments is much easier than the other way around. I chose to switch from trombone to baritone for my highschool marching band and it was much more fun for me to play and perform with.
@@shadowflamelightburst4503 Thank you!! I have played a bit of euphonium in high school but it’s been a minute and I need to get working on scales and faster arpeggios and runs before I tryout that’s for sure😅I was able to catch onto it fairly quickly!
Y’all went to Broken Arrow too?? That’s awesome, so did I! I’m in the Sherman High School Marching Band, I’m one of two freshman trombone and the only silver trombone. Our show was called “The Last Train Home” and was our best show in years. Broken Arrow was an amazing experience for me, it was our only chance to make it to Area, and we did! After our show we got to see the Broken Arrow band play half of their show for us. Sadly we didn’t make it to Area Finals, we lost to Lovejoy- whose show was entirely just visuals. They got 10th and we placed 11th, just missing top 10 by one point. Sorry about my rant lol!
if you're willing to learn brass and have the instrument and all of the audition material learned well enough by the time they see you then there's nothing against that. woodwind ain't on your birth certificate lol
Anyone can audition who is willing to learn a brass instrument! The staff of many corps are very willing to help provide you the tools and instruction to get you there. There’s also plenty of woodwind friends who earn conductor spots amongst various corps.
I want to audition for bluecoats in 26’ or 27’ hopefully by then there will be openings in the contra line plus I’ve barely been playing tuba and I’m insanely good like I have great tone I just need to work on blasting which I will next marching band season since I’ll probably be the only sousaphone
Doing drum corps is less about “blasting”, and more about developing good approaches to the instrument, and then practicing those correct approaches until you have the strength and stamina to blast with the proper technique. The foundation of a good drum corps member is good technique and lots of skill and stamina around that technique, not “play loud”. Being the only sousaphone in your section can make you play too loud and blatty to compensate for it, and the directors might not call you out for it because in a one sousaphone section, that might be desired. Judging by the comment I’m guessing you’re around a high school freshman, so just keep in mind the importance of technique when practicing to get into the bluecoats, but know that you do not have to be a superhuman to be in the bluecoats. The uniforms looked incredible in person. The colors and patterns really matched the dreamscape vibe, especially seeing them with the full corps. Very modern look, but embracing how we can adapt the uniform to create an iconic look that fits the show.
@@gavintantleff I will for sure now. Thanks for the advice. I should of watched them before committing on them. Hey when is someone going to knock off BD ? Ok thanks
Drum corps travel across the country to perform, but they also have to rehearse and sleep and eat, and the facilities for rehearsal are at high schools (football fields). So, they just sleep and eat at the high schools so that they can rehearse more. It sounds crazy because it is but that’s just how they do it, everybody sleeps on gym floors and brushes their teeth and showers in high school locker rooms for 3 months
COVID spread very easily in ‘22, basically every single corps had some level of COVID spread and protocols needed to be put in place to minimize that spread as much as possible
Akron 2022 couldn't have been a better first DCI experience. So much fun getting rained on
akron 22 gang #rainandrevelations
I was there too!
Suffering builds character (though actually the 9,000 people there would have been more dope)
Rainy shows can be some of the best. Everyone’s just there to enjoy some good band.
I heard about that 😭
Akron was my first dci experience and our color guard director was in the alumni band. It was an experience
Made the most out of the rain! Sometimes the rainy shows are the most memorable
Winning the Sanford award is almost better than winning the gold.

Love coming back and watching this whenever I miss drum corps. Such a great age out

Love me some reminiscing. 6W my man :)
Went to Akron with my band, I’m just happy I was able to hear the Bluecoats tbh
Definitely doing the speaker setup thing with my friends in practice tomorrow
Completely forgot about the dorm shower video. Was not expecting to be in this lol
Miss you bud, glad you had a great age-out
how could someone POSSIBLY get into the Bluecoats 😮

Yeahhhh if I ever join DCI I’m not marching baritone, definitely mello. Mad props to people who can do it
yo not to be intrusive but how would you pay for dci. Asking because its a question that will decide if I'll do it or not.
@@Mr_Pleb a lot of saving, and most corps do monthly payments so it's easier on you
That was fun. Thanks for sharing!

So if you wanna be a blue coat but you are a woodwind you can switch right or no
