As most people do, they started as holiday hirers, although before that, they did walking tours along some of the canals. Dad got tired of all the walking and figured boating was the better way to go!

@@NarrowboatChef Officially (let's French this up) 'Poste Restante' ???? (something like that anyway) where a Post Office will accept 'stuff' for travellers to pick up when they're passing through.
Unofficially, I'd suspect a post office that didn't offer the service officially is unlikely to destroy mail addressed to you C/O xyz post office. (and for that matter, Royal Mail Delivery Offices (what used to be called sorting offices).
I daresay you could get sent to almost any location / business address that you're going to be passing....

I thought that the Post Office would act as delivery recipient, on request.
I know here in the states you can have mail or packages sent to the post office via general delivery and thy will hold it for a certain amout of time. So if they went to the post office and told them what they needed I am sure the postal people would gladly hold the luggage till it was picked up.
We didn’t even consider post offices! They probably would, we will keep it in mind for future reference!
Yes, they will. The service is internationally known as "Poste Restante" and can be used when travelling in many countries.
How did you keep your Mom off your boat until you tied up? If my Mom flew in to see me, she wouldn't have allowed me out of her sight for at least an hour...lol.
