From 2009-2023 We had 13, 13-2, Lightning Returns, 14 OG, ARR, HW, SB, SHB, EW, XV, VIIR and XVI. All of these are full FF games. They just decided to do 3 mainline in 14 years but there are actually 12 full games they made.
What makes FF6 even more impressive is that they made it in so little time. That game was made super rushed, Japanese version and translated in MONTHS by one guy. Was it perfect, absolutely not! It's a masterpiece!
To be honest, the best things don't take a very long time to make. Disney's golden age they released a film every other year, it was incredibly productive and fast.
I grew up with my grandparents and my grandma played EVERY single final fantasy game. At the time I was too young to understand them or appreciate them. When she was done beating ff9 on playstation 1 she passed the system onto me and my brother. For some reason ff7 really stuck with me and for my brother it was ff9. As I grew older I got my hands on the original ones and all of them are just generally good games.. lots of memories with the franchise and to this day I'd willingly go back and play any one of them. Long live final fantasy ❤
9 is such a nice lighthearted adventure with such amazing visuals and soundtrack. When I think about FF this is the game that best defines the spirit of the series.
It really is a magical game. Once you start playing it's hard to put back down. Probably the most playable FF from I to XII. I'll never forget beating Ozma
It's hard to explain to younger people now how groundbreaking FF7 was at the time it came out. There had never, ever been a game with such a large scope. The world was absolutely enormous, unlike any RPG that had ever been made. The use of pre-rendered graphics on the PSX was genius, and enabled cutscenes and backgrounds with much better graphics than anyone had ever seen in a game. Not only was it an unparalleled game in its own right, but it really is responsible for setting the bar for what AAA games are, even today.
Final Fantasy 7 blew up big on first release, Final Fantasy 7 and Resident Evil we're the main reason I personally got a PS1, thanks to GamePro magazine! Final Fantasy 3(or 6) is another one close to me personally it's the game that opened my eyes to turn based rpgs!
No disrispect but honestly ? Who cares what the younger generation thinks! They have their Fortnites and they gonna compare this to the titles in 20-30 years. So it doesnt matter, its just important that we had a great time playing games like FF7!
I’m so glad 12 got respect in this, it’s my favourite alongside 7 and it just blows my mind how intricate and progressive it is. The soundtrack especially is one of my favourite parts!
I'm just glad the remaster gave ppl a second chance at a game that was ahead of it's time originally. Ff12 isn't "perfect" by any means (I've yet to play a game that is) but it's an absolute triumph nonetheless
Well I think the major drawback to most is the main character Vaan who is the main protagonist but feels completely unnecessary and his character isn’t well fleshed out like the other heroes in the party. I love the game so much it offered so much from story to gameplay but it was also the only final fantasy where I felt like I was playing as the wrong character in the game. Still played and beat it multiple times just an excellent game.
@@richardechols9617 never understood the hate towards vaan, imo the desire to fight against an empire he dislikes so much and the opportunity to live similarly to a sky pirate (aka his dream) seams like more than enough motivation for him to tag along, hes a bit foolhardy, but ultimately got a good head on his shoulders, if the hate truely stems from a lack of relavance plotwise penelo should be the target, but honestly penelo is far too selfish to let her bestfriend and partner get away from her
i liked it as well although i have seen some people criticize ff's tendency to have a male protagonist when the story is technically about a woman(/the woman is the most important person in the story overall). just off the top of my head i've seen this criticism about x (it's yuna's story but tidus is the protag), vii (aerith is most important but cloud is the protag), and xii (ashe is technically the most important to the story but vaan is presented as the main pov character).

absolutely agreed. Moreover, never understood the hate towards Tidus. He is the narrator of the story and has the best character development in all FF games and it is not even close.
People showed me FFVII back in the day, but I just didn't understand the hype at that time. FFVIII was the one that actually impressed me and it's still my favourite to this day. Nowdays I can acknowledge that FFVII is also a brilliant game, coming in at number two for me.
Love this dudes passion for Final Fantasy which definitely shows through in all his Final Fantasy videos. This is great list done by someone who knows Final Fantasy very well. I would love to see that final boss tier list.

I played final fantasy XI from 2004 to 2006 pretty hardcore. You're definitely right. The game was obtuse but it was designed that way. The game relied on a lot of tribal knowledge as the internet was still not full of guides. Past level 10 you had to group up with 5 others in a structured group to kill mobs endlessly to level up. There was no such thing as soloing unless you were a beastmaster. So the community was very close and helpful. Grinding out goblins and mandragora in yuhtunga and yhoater jungle late at night with random folks was great. Met a lot of cool people playing that game. Now you can get a full group of npcs and solo it all but Back in its original form, it was a unique experience I wish more fans of the franchise could have experienced.
I actually liked the tribal knowledge part. Your Linkshell, and being social, was key to your success/fun in the game. Leading an alliance, soloing tough NMs, and setting up a flowing XP party was epic!
I find love for all of the mainline games in someway. I love the franchise because the games are all so unique and different. Some are weaker than others, but they’re all fun! My favorite will always be 9, but I think 16 will come close.
Good list, FF 10 and 7 were my two favorite. I played the old FF games on SNES but never understood them. FF7 was the first one I was able to comprehend. FF 10 was my favorite. The graphics and story blew me away when it came out. I began to hate turnbased combat at the time and FF 10 got me back into it.
Agreed. I got it on launch day for PS2 and it’s brilliant! I bought Zodiac Age at Walmart for 7.88 a few years ago and have yet to play it again. I will soon.
As a die hard FF fan and played all games in the franchise, this is my tier list: S Tier - VI, VII, IX, XIV A Tier - IV, X, XII B Tier - I, VIII, XV C Tier - III, V, XIII D Tier - II, XI
Props to your FF12 rating. It was my first FF game and brings back so many great memories. The characters were so well written despite the main story being lackluster.
The story of Final Fantasy IV is utter and complete goddamn madness. The only cohesive storyline is that of Cecil finding redemption for his war crimes, but that concludes about a quarter or a third of the way through the game, and everything else is just an exquisite corpse of ideas from a group of writers competing to see who can fuck over the next writer the most--mind control betrayals, angry fathers angry about their daughters eloping, villains with secret relationships, a secret main villain pulling on the strings that's never even hinted at through most of the game, time-slips, noble sacrifices solely to introduce new party members, an underground world, and mother fucking space travel! The whole game is spoony as a bard. Objectively, it's one of the worst stories in the series, concluding Cecil's redemptive arc far too quickly, but as a video game, it's fun as hell. For me, VI has the best story, though even it takes some liberties with logic (Ultros feels like a villain that should have been in FFIV). With the recent translation corrections giving Kefka a bit more depth and motivation than simply being a cackling psychopathic Joker (he's basically a dry-run for a character like Sephiroth, a failed genetic experiment driven mad by his own powers, and apparently was promised Celes as a mate to create powerful magic progeny for the Emperor's magitech army, though despite having a similar beginning, Kefka doesn't come off as nearly as sympathetic), FFVI still works for me better than VII. Maybe if I had plowed through VII back in the day instead of being turned off by the chunky character models, laboriously slow and simple combat system (oh my god, the freaking summons), and Barret practically speaking in Ebonics, I'd like it more than I do.
I think that list makes sense. Would be interested to see how you'd factor in the spin offs to each mainline game in the same tier list or a sep one. Cuz it feels like 13 having 2 follow ups should factor more into it
Great list and very well thought out arguments! This is such a wonderful series and my only complaint is the longer development time between main entries ever since FFXII. I would rank the main series as follows: Perfect: FFVII, FFVIII, FFX Fantastic: FFIV, FFVI, FFIX, FFXI, FFXIV Great: FFV, FFXII, FFXV Good: FFI, FFXIII Nope: FFII I still haven't played FFIII, but I plan to now that we have the Pixel Remaster version. Also, I want to add that I would likely rank both FFXIII sequels as "Great" (yes, better than the original) and I would rank FFX-2 as "Fantastic". FFVII Remake is also a "Perfect", though I might change my mind depending on how the remaining installments turn out.

Final Fantasy VI = Larry Bird & Magic Johnson - the GOAT of some more seasoned players but it was a totally different era in gaming. 3. Final Fantasy IX & X = Kobe Bryant - the worthy successors of FF VII and some even consider them better 4. Final Fantasy XIV = Tim Duncan & Nikola Jokic - has a very strong case for being the GOAT but few are talking about it 5. Final Fantasy XIII = LeBron James - the most hated game in the franchise
I think ff8 is the most underrated of all the ff. It had a more mature tone and I loved the GF junction system. It's up there for me plus the card mini game was awesome 👌
FF8 is my favourite, from all the ones i have played from ff7 og - ff15 - my list are ff8/7 and 12 are my favourites, liked 9 was ok, but not as good as 7 or 8 in my opinion, and didnt like the combat and some of the characters in 10 and 13, prob wouldnt replay these again, and haven't played the online ones. If they do remake the older games that didnt have the voice acting, in them at the time, i think it would be criminal not to include 8, as they have a perfect opportunity to course correct all that is wrong with that game, but prob be waiting for 50 years at this rate until all of ff7 new games are out.
@Valerie Mills I agree 👍 I think they should absolutely remake 8, I put it above 9 I didn't care for much of the characters in 9 aside form ViVi. If they remake 8 there's so much potential to do new things. Especially with SeeD, side missions and what not.

@@hydromexicano I loved Vivi in that game, my only fav character in that game, if they actually did a decent remaster of 8, wouldnt mind so much, playing ff12 remaster, and its way better with really good graphic cutscences, and even in level characters look better, apart from the stretching out of graphics on surfaces like doors, looks pretty bad up close, but i have seen worse tbh, i thinks its a really good remaster compared to 8, the backgrounds on that are so bad.
AS FINAL FANTASY FAN, I AGREE ON THIS LIST ESPECIALLY FF12! The hunts, gambit, story, lore, Ivalice, I just love everything about this game to a point I wish they can REMAKE it with UE5

Ive only played a couple of FF games but 12 was always my favorite it felt so tactical with the gambit system and the fact rhat pretty much any chacter could be your main
FF11 was my favorite of all FFs. The characteristic you scored it low for, not hand-holding, is its greatest strength. It's the reason FF14, also great, could never reach the immersive experience that FF11 was.

@@DS9TREK I disagree, I found zero investment in the characters of Vlll. It's the exact opposite of how I felt with Vll, X, or XV. I was immediately invested in those, while Vlll was a turnoff from the jump.

FF6 is my first FF and my personal favorite. Best character development in the franchise IMO. The way the world ends halfway and finding friends afterwards is something that I’ll never forget.

And I think that sucks! There's no consistency to this franchise. The last good game was FFX, 22 YEARS ago. And then Square Enix decided to appeal to casual gamers, and the series was dumbed down to such a degree that you can hardly call their games, games anymore. They're basically endless cutscenes with never-ending QTE's. You don't do anything other than hold down a button. No strategic thinking required. BLERGH. Had they stuck with making games for their hardcore audience, they'd still be at the top.
Yeah it's crazy how some people look down on FF8. It has problems but it's still amazing. All the FF series has problems but some fans overlook them excluding FF8 for some strange reason. FF8, FF9, & FF10 deserves much more love and a remake.
I'm very happy to see you also like and appreciate final fantasy fifteen. It's one of my favorites. I'm weird and enjoy doing all the random hunts and quests and the fishing is fun. It's a good game plus running around in the chocobo is fun.
Final Fantasy IX remains my favorite video game of all time, comparing it to my other top favorites such as Red Dead Redemption and GTA V, and even the very worst RPG on the PS2 - Ephemeral Fantasia. FFIX is possibly the ONLY game on the PSOne that doesn't need a remake or remaster, it's just that good-looking. The cut-scenes and the artwork. The only things I have problems with, as do others, are the Trance system, the Tetra Master system, and Amarant. Just change some things here and there, such as Trance being opt-in during battle and Tetra Master being optional within the story, along with non-randomization. Amarant either needs more character development - A LOT actually, or need not exist.
Ff12 is one of the best games of all time.. the only problem with this game is that the developers made it almost exactly like an mmo where there are communities around mmos. SE wanted this offline game to have an online community where you have to constantly go online to find out how to get armors and weapons etc..

Started off with FF 7, and still my favourite of the lot. Big fan of 8, 10, and 12 is very underrated. Never played the pixel FF games, but I’ve always heard about 6, which I def wanna try. But man 16 has got me so hyped!
I’m in the same boat , started with 7. Out of the pixie games, I would say FF4 DS is my favorite. It’s the hard version but the storyline is engaging. FF5 is fun to play too but I haven’t beaten it. As far as FF6, I’m one of the few who didn’t like it as much and didn’t finish it either.
I watched a FF2 psp playthrough on RUclips and honestly I thought the story and visuals were amazing. Can’t speak on the gameplay but to me this game is my 2nd favorite right under 8
I honestly do not agree that FF15 was Fantastic, I'll maybe give it Great and still feel generous about it. FF8 only fault that it was not FF7, other than that I think it's closer to Perfect than Fantastic on your chart. FF9 is not my cup of tea but I can understand why it was and still popular
VIII has atmosphere in spades. It’s so indicative of the time and brings me back to when I was 11 years old. Was hard to believe 2019’s remaster was 20 years. Now we’ll be at 25 next year.

Disliking the video for putting FF13 that low. My first FF was 10 back in 2004, then I played 12, 1, 2, 7, 6, 15, and then I played FF13 in 2022, and I enjoyed it a LOT more than 6, 7 or 15. This list is based on popularity, not actual appreciation.
I almost completely agree with you. Though I never played the MMO final fantasies so I don't have an opinion on them. I am an FF8 hater, though, and 13 not being in the nope tier is unacceptable. So knock both of those down a tier respectively and this is perfection in my eyes.
JRPGs need a "no filler/fluff" mode. It's just baffling how we still have time wasters in the MSQ. Like, If I start a quest, and I have to go somewhere I've already been to talk to someone, just fucking skip and start with the cutscene where I'm already there, I don't wanna run around like an mailman. Also, If I'm so strong I can beat gods, I shouldn't be fucking collecting some dumb flowers guarded by measly wolfs, It's so fucking absurd. I still have 4k hrs in ff14 tho lol
FF 11 will always hold a special place in my heart. I was in high school when it 1st dropped. Me and my whole group of friends would go to school and then come home and play it. The best non MMO FF in my opinion is 10. The story is all about sacrifice and always gets me.

It's like when most people play FF7, they say fk the rest of the FF games. FF7 wins in default cause it's my first FF game. As an Old who has been disappointed by FF for more than 20 years now, I got to say FFXII should be the way modern FF games should be.. if they have to change the formula at all. FF8's story becomes better if you think of it as a surrealist one. FF6's SNES translation isn't bad at all. FF4 is pretty much the first game to mix story and gameplay the way modern games do nowadays. There was nothing like it back then. I loved that game but I've played it so much I'm tired of it. Also, it's very linear and has no character customization. Your rankings are pretty similar to what I would rank them, but I would give FFX a lower score. Didn't like the story and didn't like how they removed the ATB and world map. They even got rid of the pointing glove cursor, a truly despicable choice. I'm older so maybe I was cynical by the time I played it.
Great video! I knew about final fantasy because of how famous the franchise is but my first one was 14, and i fell in love it's my favorite game of all time! Now i'm having this great experience of playing the other FFs and finding a lot of elements that 14 has, i feel at home, it's great.
FF is also my all-time favourite game series. I own them all, collector's edition, their vinyl records, all of the steelbooks etc.. and I am one of those that believe XI & XIV are bastardizations of the series, I refuse to consider them mainline titles. P.S. I agree with you on XIII, however, when ranking the XIII series as a whole, it's an amazing story, one of the best.
FF7 maybe the most iconic, but i love FF9 more for it brings back the fantasy aura of the FF4-6 that was lost in the later titles.. NOW FF8 in the other hand is not the best but it doesnt deserve the backlash.. it reminds me of AC3 was hated because its not EZIO anymore.. its like they hate it because its not FF7
I do think it's crazy that, to this day, so many people don't understand XIII's story. It's easy to figure out what everything means via context clues and, if you're still confused, the game provides lore entries to read. The narrative problems don't start showing up until its direct sequels where, because they stretched resources too thin, their writing team wasn't able to fill all the gaps.

I loved the change up of FFX. Instead of playing the "hero" you play as a sort of side character who is witnessing Yunas Hero journey.

i liked it as well although i have seen some people criticize ff's tendency to have a male protagonist when the story is technically about a woman(/the woman is the most important person in the story overall). just off the top of my head i've seen this criticism about x (it's yuna's story but tidus is the protag), vii (aerith is most important but cloud is the protag), and xii (ashe is technically the most important to the story but vaan is presented as the main pov character).

People showed me FFVII back in the day, but I just didn't understand the hype at that time. FFVIII was the one that actually impressed me and it's still my favourite to this day. Nowdays I can acknowledge that FFVII is also a brilliant game, coming in at number two for me.

FFVII was my first FF, but FFVIII will likely always be my favorite, followed somewhat closely by X.
I'll never forget the first time I saw Lionheart limit break, Bahamut summon, and Odin piercing through anything...I miss those times...

I played final fantasy XI from 2004 to 2006 pretty hardcore. You're definitely right. The game was obtuse but it was designed that way. The game relied on a lot of tribal knowledge as the internet was still not full of guides. Past level 10 you had to group up with 5 others in a structured group to kill mobs endlessly to level up. There was no such thing as soloing unless you were a beastmaster. So the community was very close and helpful. Grinding out goblins and mandragora in yuhtunga and yhoater jungle late at night with random folks was great. Met a lot of cool people playing that game.
Now you can get a full group of npcs and solo it all but Back in its original form, it was a unique experience I wish more fans of the franchise could have experienced.
I actually liked the tribal knowledge part. Your Linkshell, and being social, was key to your success/fun in the game. Leading an alliance, soloing tough NMs, and setting up a flowing XP party was epic!
FF9 and FF6 are just marvelous hands down my favorite two don't sleep on FF4 either it's also really good

I find love for all of the mainline games in someway. I love the franchise because the games are all so unique and different. Some are weaker than others, but they’re all fun! My favorite will always be 9, but I think 16 will come close.
Good list, FF 10 and 7 were my two favorite. I played the old FF games on SNES but never understood them. FF7 was the first one I was able to comprehend. FF 10 was my favorite. The graphics and story blew me away when it came out. I began to hate turnbased combat at the time and FF 10 got me back into it.

The story of Final Fantasy IV is utter and complete goddamn madness. The only cohesive storyline is that of Cecil finding redemption for his war crimes, but that concludes about a quarter or a third of the way through the game, and everything else is just an exquisite corpse of ideas from a group of writers competing to see who can fuck over the next writer the most--mind control betrayals, angry fathers angry about their daughters eloping, villains with secret relationships, a secret main villain pulling on the strings that's never even hinted at through most of the game, time-slips, noble sacrifices solely to introduce new party members, an underground world, and mother fucking space travel! The whole game is spoony as a bard. Objectively, it's one of the worst stories in the series, concluding Cecil's redemptive arc far too quickly, but as a video game, it's fun as hell.
For me, VI has the best story, though even it takes some liberties with logic (Ultros feels like a villain that should have been in FFIV). With the recent translation corrections giving Kefka a bit more depth and motivation than simply being a cackling psychopathic Joker (he's basically a dry-run for a character like Sephiroth, a failed genetic experiment driven mad by his own powers, and apparently was promised Celes as a mate to create powerful magic progeny for the Emperor's magitech army, though despite having a similar beginning, Kefka doesn't come off as nearly as sympathetic), FFVI still works for me better than VII. Maybe if I had plowed through VII back in the day instead of being turned off by the chunky character models, laboriously slow and simple combat system (oh my god, the freaking summons), and Barret practically speaking in Ebonics, I'd like it more than I do.
I think that list makes sense. Would be interested to see how you'd factor in the spin offs to each mainline game in the same tier list or a sep one. Cuz it feels like 13 having 2 follow ups should factor more into it

Great list and very well thought out arguments! This is such a wonderful series and my only complaint is the longer development time between main entries ever since FFXII. I would rank the main series as follows:
Perfect: FFVII, FFVIII, FFX
Fantastic: FFIV, FFVI, FFIX, FFXI, FFXIV
Great: FFV, FFXII, FFXV
Good: FFI, FFXIII
Nope: FFII
I still haven't played FFIII, but I plan to now that we have the Pixel Remaster version. Also, I want to add that I would likely rank both FFXIII sequels as "Great" (yes, better than the original) and I would rank FFX-2 as "Fantastic". FFVII Remake is also a "Perfect", though I might change my mind depending on how the remaining installments turn out.

1. Final Fantasy VII = Michael Jordan - put the series on the map and is the popular choice for the GOAT.
2. Final Fantasy VI = Larry Bird & Magic Johnson - the GOAT of some more seasoned players but it was a totally different era in gaming.
3. Final Fantasy IX & X = Kobe Bryant - the worthy successors of FF VII and some even consider them better
4. Final Fantasy XIV = Tim Duncan & Nikola Jokic - has a very strong case for being the GOAT but few are talking about it

I think ff8 is the most underrated of all the ff. It had a more mature tone and I loved the GF junction system. It's up there for me plus the card mini game was awesome 👌
FF8 is my favourite, from all the ones i have played from ff7 og - ff15 - my list are ff8/7 and 12 are my favourites, liked 9 was ok, but not as good as 7 or 8 in my opinion, and didnt like the combat and some of the characters in 10 and 13, prob wouldnt replay these again, and haven't played the online ones. If they do remake the older games that didnt have the voice acting, in them at the time, i think it would be criminal not to include 8, as they have a perfect opportunity to course correct all that is wrong with that game, but prob be waiting for 50 years at this rate until all of ff7 new games are out.
@Valerie Mills I agree 👍 I think they should absolutely remake 8, I put it above 9 I didn't care for much of the characters in 9 aside form ViVi. If they remake 8 there's so much potential to do new things. Especially with SeeD, side missions and what not.
It was one of my favorites but with the recent remaster, I had a chance to replay it for the first time since it came out and saw all it’s flaws.

@@hydromexicano I loved Vivi in that game, my only fav character in that game, if they actually did a decent remaster of 8, wouldnt mind so much, playing ff12 remaster, and its way better with really good graphic cutscences, and even in level characters look better, apart from the stretching out of graphics on surfaces like doors, looks pretty bad up close, but i have seen worse tbh, i thinks its a really good remaster compared to 8, the backgrounds on that are so bad.

Putting FF12 at the top tier legitimized the list for me. One of my most loved games. The secrets, hidden espers and hunts in that game are the best in the series.

FF11 was my favorite of all FFs. The characteristic you scored it low for, not hand-holding, is its greatest strength. It's the reason FF14, also great, could never reach the immersive experience that FF11 was.

@@DS9TREK I disagree, I found zero investment in the characters of Vlll. It's the exact opposite of how I felt with Vll, X, or XV. I was immediately invested in those, while Vlll was a turnoff from the jump.

FF6 and 4 Pixel Remasters are my favorite FF games. The voiced opera now makes FF6 my favorite FF game.
FF6 is my first FF and my personal favorite. Best character development in the franchise IMO. The way the world ends halfway and finding friends afterwards is something that I’ll never forget.

Yeah it's crazy how some people look down on FF8. It has problems but it's still amazing. All the FF series has problems but some fans overlook them excluding FF8 for some strange reason. FF8, FF9, & FF10 deserves much more love and a remake.

I'm very happy to see you also like and appreciate final fantasy fifteen. It's one of my favorites. I'm weird and enjoy doing all the random hunts and quests and the fishing is fun. It's a good game plus running around in the chocobo is fun.

Final Fantasy IX remains my favorite video game of all time, comparing it to my other top favorites such as Red Dead Redemption and GTA V, and even the very worst RPG on the PS2 - Ephemeral Fantasia. FFIX is possibly the ONLY game on the PSOne that doesn't need a remake or remaster, it's just that good-looking. The cut-scenes and the artwork. The only things I have problems with, as do others, are the Trance system, the Tetra Master system, and Amarant. Just change some things here and there, such as Trance being opt-in during battle and Tetra Master being optional within the story, along with non-randomization. Amarant either needs more character development - A LOT actually, or need not exist.
Ff12 is one of the best games of all time.. the only problem with this game is that the developers made it almost exactly like an mmo where there are communities around mmos.
SE wanted this offline game to have an online community where you have to constantly go online to find out how to get armors and weapons etc..
For FF3, you should have judged the pixel remaster differently from the 3ds remake, because 3ds remake has main characters like luneth.
I feel like FF7, FF9, and FF6 were the only ones on this list that were perfect.

I’m in the same boat , started with 7. Out of the pixie games, I would say FF4 DS is my favorite. It’s the hard version but the storyline is engaging. FF5 is fun to play too but I haven’t beaten it.
As far as FF6, I’m one of the few who didn’t like it as much and didn’t finish it either.

VIII has atmosphere in spades. It’s so indicative of the time and brings me back to when I was 11 years old. Was hard to believe 2019’s remaster was 20 years. Now we’ll be at 25 next year.

I almost completely agree with you. Though I never played the MMO final fantasies so I don't have an opinion on them. I am an FF8 hater, though, and 13 not being in the nope tier is unacceptable. So knock both of those down a tier respectively and this is perfection in my eyes.

JRPGs need a "no filler/fluff" mode. It's just baffling how we still have time wasters in the MSQ.
Like, If I start a quest, and I have to go somewhere I've already been to talk to someone, just fucking skip and start with the cutscene where I'm already there, I don't wanna run around like an mailman. Also, If I'm so strong I can beat gods, I shouldn't be fucking collecting some dumb flowers guarded by measly wolfs, It's so fucking absurd.

FF 11 will always hold a special place in my heart. I was in high school when it 1st dropped. Me and my whole group of friends would go to school and then come home and play it. The best non MMO FF in my opinion is 10. The story is all about sacrifice and always gets me.
Just gotta say, “One Winged Angel” has got to be the most iconic boss battle themes in FF, and possibly all of video games.
The best FFs for me personally are FF6, FF14, Final Fantasy Tactics Advance.

As an Old who has been disappointed by FF for more than 20 years now, I got to say FFXII should be the way modern FF games should be.. if they have to change the formula at all.
FF8's story becomes better if you think of it as a surrealist one.
FF6's SNES translation isn't bad at all.
FF4 is pretty much the first game to mix story and gameplay the way modern games do nowadays. There was nothing like it back then. I loved that game but I've played it so much I'm tired of it. Also, it's very linear and has no character customization.
Your rankings are pretty similar to what I would rank them, but I would give FFX a lower score. Didn't like the story and didn't like how they removed the ATB and world map. They even got rid of the pointing glove cursor, a truly despicable choice. I'm older so maybe I was cynical by the time I played it.
The SNES graphics for FFVI are better than the pixel remaster version, imo.
Great video! I knew about final fantasy because of how famous the franchise is but my first one was 14, and i fell in love it's my favorite game of all time!
Now i'm having this great experience of playing the other FFs and finding a lot of elements that 14 has, i feel at home, it's great.

FF is also my all-time favourite game series. I own them all, collector's edition, their vinyl records, all of the steelbooks etc.. and I am one of those that believe XI & XIV are bastardizations of the series, I refuse to consider them mainline titles. P.S. I agree with you on XIII, however, when ranking the XIII series as a whole, it's an amazing story, one of the best.

Holy crap! Who knew FF II was an Ultima clone? From what you said, it’s probably one of the few true RPGs in the FF series.
FF7 maybe the most iconic, but i love FF9 more for it brings back the fantasy aura of the FF4-6 that was lost in the later titles.. NOW FF8 in the other hand is not the best but it doesnt deserve the backlash.. it reminds me of AC3 was hated because its not EZIO anymore.. its like they hate it because its not FF7
I do think it's crazy that, to this day, so many people don't understand XIII's story. It's easy to figure out what everything means via context clues and, if you're still confused, the game provides lore entries to read. The narrative problems don't start showing up until its direct sequels where, because they stretched resources too thin, their writing team wasn't able to fill all the gaps.
