- DON'T GET TSA PRECHECK! | NEXUS IS BETTER THAN TSA PRECHECK & GLOBAL ENTRY...
In this video, I'll compare three Trusted Traveler Programs against one another. Nexus is my favorite trusted traveler program because it includes TSA PreCheck and Global Entry.
However, Nexus interviews are tough to schedule because most enrollment centers are in the northern states (close to the Canadian border). Also, the wait times to get a Nexus interview are well over 6 months.
If getting a Nexus isn't feasible, I highly suggest that you go with Global Entry. It costs only $3 more than TSA PreCheck per year, and it includes TSA PreCheck.
If you have any questions, please let me know in the comments section below.
You can apply for all Trusted Traveler Programs, including Nexus, TSA PreCheck, and Global Entry here:

I am a South Korean, living in the USA and close to the Canadian border. It took me about a year to get 'conditionally approved' and now I have received my Nexus card. I heard the cost for Nexus will be 140 for 5 years, so I am lucky to catch the last train. I go to Toronto often so I am excited to use it at the border and YYZ when I am coming back from Korea. Thanks for the video!
Correct. I have nexus and use it for TSA precheck and global entry
You nailed everything, Just one thing i got my nexus after 14 months ! They are behind and so many people want nexus . Thanks
According to the Nexus agent I spoke to, Canadians definitely get the Global Entry privilege when they sign up for the Nexus card. However Americans have been getting it 85% of the time. So unfortunately it’s not guaranteed.
Interesting! Thank you for sharing that insight!
Yes,it's better and cheaper. The only drawback is that for a NEXUS card you have to go for an interview at the US/Canadian border. That's bad for some but OK for others.
That's a great point! Getting interviews for nexus is a pain in the butt, at least it was a couple of months ago. I hope they open more enrollment centers around the country so that others can take a vantage of nexus. But I doubt they will, because it is a dual travel program between the United States and Canada. With that said, I do hope they make the process of getting approved for Nexus more efficient in the near future! Thank you for watching, and please consider subscribing to my RUclips channel because it helps me out tremendously. Thank you.
Received my nexus card August 2022. It’s worth every penny.
@@CABNoLimit Yes,it's particularly valuable to those who cross the US/Canada border by car.
To use nexus lane ALL occupants in a car must be nexus members.
If there is a single non member than that car is required to use the standard lane when the border with canada.
@@qv6486 True. I'd wager that anyone makes a mistake of that sort would wind up losing his Nexus card as punishment.
It took us 6 days to get Global entry. Filled out the applications late Sunday night. Received the notice to schedule the interview early Tuesday morning, found appointments for that Saturday morning. So 6 days from beginning to fully enrolled.
We did learn that CBP tends to load new appointment times during lunch, which expedited our process.
We live about as far as you can get from Canada while still being in the continental US. NEXUS isn’t a convenient choice.
Exactly
MrsWheezer how did u upload ur passport copy on the GE form online? I am NOT able to do it .Your help please
My wife and I were conditionally approved for Nexus in March of 2020. With COVID and the closure of the Canadian enrolment centres it took 2 years to get our appointment. We live near Buffalo on the Canadian side and had to drive nearly 700km (round trip) to the Detroit enrolment centre. We just had our interview 2 days ago (4-Aug-2022). It seemed like it took forever to find an available appointment. No chance of finding one in Fort Erie or Niagara Falls. If I could offer 1 tip if you are waiting for an appointment slot, keep trying everyday. Even though we were fortunate enough to find 2 appointments together, it was still a 2 month wait. According to Border Protection, we should have our cards within 10 days.
Thank you so much for sharing your experience. Getting interviews right now is extremely difficult, but as you said, if you check the website every day you might get lucky! Enjoy your Nexus, my wife and I love ours! Thank you so much for watching this video and leaving an insightful comment. Please remember to subscribe to my channel!

excellent info. Thank You. Clear and to the point.
Could you make a video on the Nexus process and what to expect at the interviews
Great suggestion!
Any Nexus Video yet ?
NEXUS is an absolute must if you're a Canadian that likes to travel or travels for work. Global Entry allowed us to bypass an hour-long security line at Toronto Pearson when going to the UK, and I was able to quickly get through security in Montreal heading to Toronto Island Airport.
And if you're a cruiser, there are Global Entry lanes at Port Everglades and Port of Miami. You may end up at the airport TOO early for your flight, but at least you're not stressing about getting there.
Great explanations of each program Ravi! I'd give you 5 likes if I could.
Thank you so much I really appreciate it, Kevin!
doesn't nexus even save time on domestic flights? i was flying from toronto to winnipeg not too long ago and noticed nexus holders got through way faster than the rest of us waiting in line for at least 1 hour
@@chrislang6698 It may depend on the airport, but Toronto and Montreal do for sure.
we live in Washington State and travel a lot, including to Vancouver, B.C. We got Nexus and we love it. I have never waited to cross the Canadian Border, I have never waited in the long TSA lines at domestic airports and I have come back from overseas quickly! It is totally worth it!
What's better for Canadians ? NEXUS or Global Entry?
Why bother to even tell us Abt this is you can't get an interview for 6 months or longer and there aren't hardly any offices

This is the best video I’ve ever seen
Thank you!
Really? 😂
Good video but you missed one of the most important benefits of Nexus:. It allows you to clear Canadian immigration when arriving in Canada by air in a similar way to Global Entry in the US. With my Nexus card, it's actually faster and easier to enter Canada than the US with global entry (I'm a US citizen). I never speak to a human
Yes, that’s a great point! And I did forget to mention that. Thanks for mentioning it Tony!
You actually receive a Global Entry CARD for Land & Sea fast pass entry as well when you apply. I used it while in Canada headed to Michigan and entered without any problem.
Just to clarify, if you apply for nexus, you receive two cards: a nexus card AND a global entry card?
@@autumn_b905 no just one
@@qv6486 thanks
@@qv6486 But you can go through global entry lines as well right?
@@thatoneskierdude4410 yes
Nutshell: Nexus is fine if your'e a frequent traveler to Canada. Global Entry is convenient for re-entering the US. TSA-Pre Check is beneficial for those who travel often within the US. Personally, I prefer CLEAR, since it brings you to the front of the TSA-Pre Check line. Applying for CLEAR and getting approved is faster. Members of military get a discount. You get expedited entry to sports stadiums and entertainment venues. And CLEAR offers extra services like luggage shipment and a personal international airport concierge. Bundle CLEAR with TSA-Pre Check and you're set.
Based on my research, Nexus only expedites entry into US airport from Canada, Global entry is from any country. I guess if you are only going to fly from Canada, that works. I routinely fly to/from other countries so Global Entry works better.
As a US citizen with Nexus, I can tell you from personal experience that you get full global entry benefits with Nexus.
Your research is wrong. Nexus includes ALL benefits of Global Entry.
@@Tourlou0409 Yep!
Yes Nexus has all benefits !
@jimselvy6157 Is correct. Do a google search for "Global Entry Frequently Asked Questions". Then you will get the cbp website's FAQ page. There you will find a section called "For NEXUS and SENTRI Members using Global Entry". Under that there will be a question: "Can I use my NEXUS card with the Global Entry processing technology?". The first line of the answer is "The NEXUS card will be recognized by the Global Entry processing technology at Canadian Preclearance locations only."
It took me 6 months to get my GE app approved. y sister got her PC (applied same day) approved in 2 weeks. If you are already PC the GE application is much faster. So if you are traveling soon apply for PC asap get approved then apply for GE. You may get lucky and they get you you interview on your return to the US.
many people who doesnt even have any of them argued with me and told me nexus is only to go to canada LOL.... i always told them " you do you !" took me 10 months for conditional approval, i just had 2 steps interview in Toronto airport 4 days ago and got approved
I live in LA so Nexus would be very difficult to get an interview for even though I will be visiting Canada 3 times this year.
As for Glibal Entry I am having an issue with trying to fill out the online application and their help option is not specific enough. So I am out of luck with that as well.
GE is better for me, no question about it because I don’t travel to canada and live 1,300 miles away from the closest Nexus enrollment center. Cost and benefits wise, there are more people who are better off with GE imo. I mean, you live in Seattle bro, so much easier for you to say Nexus is better 😂😂. Nexus offers more benefits, it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s better
That's a very good point. I've made some other videos covering the fact that Nexus enrollment centers are mostly in the northern states and that Nexus appointment can be a real pain to schedule. But agreed, for most people, GE is the better option. GE def beats TSA Pre! Thanks for watching and thanks for the insightful comment! Please remember to subscribe, it really helps me out!
Traveling to Europe in a few months got my global entry interview with Homeland security in the next week. Hopefully I’ll have it by then.🙏
Hi,
I am trying to book a Nexus appointment at land locations on the U.S. site.
I am in Canada.
When I click on Blaine Washington location using the TTP site, it only opens up a small window that says full through Nov 30, 2024. But I am not able to see any link that says click here to book an appointment. Am I missing something ? or should I call the Washington Blaine location to schedule an appointment?
Nexus is fine if you live close to the Canadian border.
I want to point pot that according to the page you provided, the Nexus is Only for passengers from Canada entry into U.S. not for international destinations, if that is true then your conclusion that Nexus is better is not necessarily correct for the comparison.
Exactly.
he is right nexus gives you all privilege's read thru the comment section for better insight
I filled out an application for my kids' ages 10 (daughter) and 16 (son) in 2020 but could not find any appointments during pandemic. 2 years later, I found appointments in Blaine, Washington outside of Vancouver, BC and made some appointments for them. My son is now 18 but was surprised that they approved him and was sent a Nexus card without being interviewed, either in person or remotely, while my daughter's appointment is still active. I'm hoping they would do the same for my daughter. Both applications did not involve any application fees.
Can you use nexus line when you are not traveling to USA, just to clear customs quickly at the airport?
cousin said nexus wait is 18 months just for the first step, then a yr wait at most of Canada for the interview step.
The wait times are outrageous these days. I got mine about four years ago and the entire process took about two months.
yes nexus takes so long, began my application Aug 2022, got my physical card Jan 2024
Global Entry card is better because it can be used when reentering the US from any country.
Nexus can be used for travels between the US and Canada
This is wrong, Nexus can be used when entering US or Canada from any country. Nexus is not exclusively used for travel between Canada and the US.

Using Global Entry card in the SENTRI or NEXUS lanes. Global Entry members, who wish to drive their vehicle in the SENTRI lanes, must register their vehicle with CBP
Why do you keep saying Nexus INCLUDES TSA PreCheck? It clearly says Global Entry INCLUDES TSA PreCheck and that Nexus MAY include TSA PreCheck.
And it's misleading that nexus doesn't say it includes global entry on the website.
Nexus includes ALL benefits of Global Entry PLUS expedited entry and screening to, from and within Canada.
It's confusing, but it does. Believe me. I wouldn't make a whole video on it if it didn't. But unfortunately, the the trusted traveler program website is so confusing. It really doesn't help much and that's part of the reason I made this video. Thanks for the comment and please consider subscribing!
Very misleading indeed. That's why I wanted to make this video based on my experience.
@@RaviWadan TSA Precheck is included for US and Canadian Citizens and US LPRs but NOT Canadian LPRs. That is why "Nexus MAY include TSA PreCheck".

Great info 👍
Thanks for watching!
We just renewed our TSA for nother five years. Do you recommend to chuck that and apply either for Global or Nexus? We however started applying for Global but stumped at uploading the passport . Not able to do it. Any help will be highly appreciated there.
You have mentioned that nexus holders can use sentri lanes (at 8:20 in your video), but I don’t see that on the ttp website
You have to register your vehicle on your profile
To use NEXUS in a SENTRI lane, you'll have to register your car on the TTP site. Runs about $40.
Ppl what he is telling you is that Nexus can work the same as the others. At least for him. His personal experience. Get it?! 🤦🏻♀️
Nexus is included with Global Entry.
TSA Precheck and Global entry are only beneficial for returning back to the US. but we still have to stand in the long TSA security check line when boarding a plane to exit US?
TSA pre-check works when you are going through security here in the United States not just when you are returning back. I hope that helps clarify any confusion. Let me know if you have any questions and thank you for watching my video! Please consider subscribing to my RUclips channel.
Great video, Can I use NEXUS if I land in the US from any country ?? Or is it applicable only if I come from Canada ? How about kids, can i use a global entry kiosk in Texas arriving from Europe with a NEXUS card ?
Yes, being a Nexus member allows you access to Global Entry lanes at all particpating US airports regardless of the country you are arriving from.
Yes Nexus is the cheapest. What you didn’t mention is under 18 is free!
I had no idea Nexus was free is you're under 18! I'm gonna have to add that to my videos going forward! Thank for the info. Please consider subscribing to my channel. I would love to have you as a member of this community!
Already submitted nexus app last Feb 10 but still pending review. I don't know how long I gotta wait
Nexus only allows you to use Global Entry kiosks after you give your fingerprint and other data to US Customs. No idea how to do that as of now...
You need to have an interview with US Custom AND Canada Custom to get Nexus, I know they took my biometric both sides when i applied
Global Entry has long wait times for appointments as well
Yes, interview appointments are almost impossible to get these days. One option is to do a "Global Entry interview upon arrival". In other words, fly out of the country, then when you fly back in, CBP can do your Global Entry interview as part of your normal arrival process. This is only available at particular airports, so do some research beforehand.
I just signed up for Global Entry about 2 weeks ago. The first day that I got approved I looked up appointments, and there was only 1 appointment available near where I lived (Milwaukee) for the next year, and it was for the exact day that I got accepted. I didn't take the appointment since I lived over an hour away, and the only time available would have been cutting it really close. I then decided to expand my search for airports within about 3 hours drive. About 4 days later I found 2 appointments at Chicago O'Hare, and I didn't take those appointments because it was on a day where a huge snow storm was going to hit in the wind chills were to drop to around -30. There was no way in hell I was going to drive 2 1/2 hours to Chicago in a snow storm with dangerous wind chills. A couple of days later I checked again, and to my surprise there were multiple appointments available for Milwaukee almost every single day in the month of April. They must update the interview schedule once a week because I was getting worried I might have a hard time getting an interview, let alone 2 for myself and my dad.
Agreed! If you can't get a nexus appointment, getting global entry is easily the second best option!
Do you know what they ask during the Nexus interview?
I've got someone else asking me the same question so maybe I will do a video on it! I'll have to ask my wife because I can't remember everything they asked ha ha! Please consider subscribing to my RUclips channel!
it's very simple, they focus more on what you can't do once you have the card, confirm nothing as changed since when you put in the application, location on next same day interview
@@teleos12 Yup! Thanks! Had my interview last year. Love it.
Accidentally applied for Nexus only instead of GE for my minor. I thought we were able to apply for both within the same application. Can we use Nexus to get into the US from international flights from Europe? Thank you! Helpful video.

I used my Canadian passport. We waited no time.
That’s good to know!
Nexus is the best choice. Here are the cons as to why I may not have a choice but to go with Global Entry.
1) Current application times are 12-14 months. (Not feasible as we want to go to Greece next year)
2) We live in NYC and the interview office is in somewhere near the border of NY & Montreal. Like 5-6 hours drive. (Including Tolls)
3) I have heard that now we wouldn’t go for one interview, but 2. One with U.S. border agent and one with Canadian border agent. (Try having a 2 year old toddler go through 2 interviews)
Yes Global Entry would cost a little more, but at the end of the day, the gas to drive to the border of canada + tolls etc. it’s really the same sh*t.
i think you should sacrifice and get nexus, once you get it, you are free for 5 years its worth it, perspective from US citizens
For global entry the waiting time is just as long and the interview centers are far
