  • UN Report Slams Canada's Migrant Worker Scheme as "Breeding Ground for Slavery" | Firstpost America
A report by the United Nations special rapporteur Tomoya Obokata revealed deep power imbalances and discriminatory practices against temporary foreign workers in Canada. Obokata says the country's Temporary Foreign Worker Program is a "breeding group for contemporary forms of slavery". These low-wage workers are brought into the nation by Canadian companies and the program benefits them and prevents them from exercising their rights. The UN report says migrant workers face physical, emotional, and sexual abuse, hazardous work conditions, wage theft, long working hours, and limited breaks. Meanwhile, the Canadian Immigration Minister has called the slavery allegation "inflammatory" and said the program needs to be reformed.

It is impossible to afford a home. In Vancouver, the mayor keep allowing high rise condos being built even at the expense of community garden/natural scenery. No one can afford to live in these condos but the wealthy. It starting to feel like the gov only want them as residents and kick lower income people out of Vancouver.

To say that everyone in Canada is a slave is both untrue and a way to reduce the power of the word slave. Real slavery means workers being threatened with harsh consequences if they speak up or refuse to follow anything demanded of them by. So by saying that 100% of Canadians are slaves you are being misleading because Canadians have choices, including leaving the country legally, something which slaves and migrant can’t do.

    • @noorpagambari116
      @noorpagambari116 24 дня назад

@@martinutr no its absolutely true except for l00ters (public sector, bureaucrats, liberals, not for profit, refugees, city halls, university professor, union leaders and teachers unions. Canadians are not just paying 15% sales tax, 20-40% income taxes on wages, 70% income taxes on overtime or bonuses. But 30% of what we pay towards our mortgage is actually payment to the l00ter (development charges, rezoning charges, digging permit, "community consultation" and a host of other costs). The distribution charges for Canadian electricity in Virginia are less than Ontario (indirect tax as the money goes to crown). We also pay world's highest hotel taxes, airline taxes, telecom taxes, internet taxes, carbon taxes etc. And if u choose to leave, you have to pay exit taxes to l00ter on wealth that u saved and brought in from another country (no immigrant or Canadian saves money in Canada except the l00ters). And if u r unfortunate and stupid enuff to invest here l00ter takes 66 % as capital gains tax.
Canada runs the slavery 2.0 agenda where a certain ideologues on left promote importing people whose (pre, post and childhood healthcare and childcare and education needs are paid for in other countries). Many times these people sell off ancestral assets to reach Canada where they are used as tax mules by socialist state, colleges, unions (teachers, transit, childcare etc) to increase funding for themselves. Many of these people have no dream, no future, no stable employment, no doctor, not even decent housing. But they will end paying 50% of their income to arms of the state, city halls, rental companies, builders etc and then die hugely in debt without savings (or get MAID). Its a 2 tier system where our leftist masters (teachers, union bosses, public sector, bureaucrats, transit unions, city halls, banks, builders, rental companies) l00t people from across the world.
But then half of canada thinks thats sunny ways and "Canada has arrived". The world needs to know the truth of Canada's education and immigration mafia and its heartening to see people take notice. Liberal leftist l00ter of Canada is destroying lives across the world and the more world notices the better

When was the last time they did that like any functional country or 1st world country is supposed to? There are even international students that have slept under a bridge in my city. Everyone who is not powerful is getting exploited currently in this country. So why not come tgt and build a better Canada? One where we dont fight for crumbs. I gladly dont have to stay in this economy and can come back another year if i have to. My country is doing fine gladly more or less. But i hope Canadians and newcomers who have no choices but to stay can join hands to make it better and fair for all. It is possible after all on the 2nd largest country on Earth, rich in natural resources. The powerful in this country just never get enough and it was left unaddressed for decades. This didnt start yesterday after all lol.

The abuses with this program have gone on for decades. People from India that own fast food franchises are selling LMIA's to Indian nationals at an average cost of over $30,000. The gov't is claiming to be investing and stating fines will be issued. Unless fines are higher than the profit gained from this immigration scam it won't be a deterrent. These individual's committing immigration fraud need to do jail time if convicted as that is the only way to deter this practice.

Each province applies for immigrants, so if you have too many in your province contact your premier, many of the premiers are conservatives, they are asking for and receiving their quota, but then blaming the federal government, for giving them what they asked for. The premiers know most people wont fact check, so they do the dirty work and they blame federal government. Each province gets rebates, kick backs and money for the immigrants. so premiers take advantage of these incentives, they then bite the hand that feeds them and ask citizens who don’t understand how it works to help attack the very government that is merely filling their order.

The problem with the program is that Individuals from India have used this as their primary means to gain permanent residence here in Canada and are now becoming the majority in population. Which is quite sickening considering that there are other people from other countries that have been denied residence or even deported. This is why I believe we need a change with current government administration. That’s why “TRUDEAU MUST GO” This happened during his tenure as prime minister

As a darn proud Canadian born citizen I can assure everyone of certain facts concerning this nonsense reporting. Fact 1....EVERY migrant worker agrees to the terms of their enter permit into Canada before they enter Canada. Fact 2 .... most enter Canada 🇨🇦 with hopes of somehow being granted a P.R. card . Fact 3 as far as agricultural work is concerned many of these off shore workers earn more money in 4 months in Canada than they earn in 12 months in their home Country. I agree that the Canadian system is not perfect however the system is not nearly as bad as this reporting states. Furthermore no one is forced to enter Canada to work the decision is a person's own choice not mandatory life requirement to work in Canada. Once again many of these off shore workers are attempting to gain permit residence status, nothing wrong with their desire to do so. When agreeing to enter Canada with a valid work permit road fine print and don't cry slavery just before the permit expires.

As a permanent resident in canada, previously i was under the temporary foreigner worker program for a good 5 years, it was difficult as the work permit was tight to one employer and changing employer process can take up 4 to 5 months, it gives the opportunity to the employer to use and abuse the employee because they know you dont have a choice either you accept it or you gonna be unemployed and will have to leave after work permit expires, adjustment to the program is needed if canada is still in need of workers.

As a Canadian, I say it is a free country and free society, don't like it, leave. Stop complaining. I lived in US, AUS for years and been in many other places, leave if you don't like where you live. There is no perfect place and stop the idiotic narrative of migrant worker and the slavery BS. You are all free, free to stay, free to leave.

Canada filled with greedy employers now. Why the people come to Canada needs to leave because of other people’s shit behaviour? You dont know about these employers because you dony need to work under those people. The immigrants forced to work under these f$&& otherwise they will lose the status in Canada.

For Singapore, how so? I don't see those issues for the skilled white collars with options. As for the blue collar workers, they know and it is clearly stated that it is temporary. Hence, they are not "migrant" workers. At least, they are under no illusions about permanent residency and citizenship which Western countries love to use as bait and then drop you when you are no longer needed. Ultimately, it is up to the workers to do their due diligence and understand what they are signing up for and where they stand instead of just listening to recruiters, friends and relatives and then get high on "dreams" and false promises of a longer stay. As for working conditions, they need to know the channels where they can report any valid abuse by employers.

Cancel it then. Send them packing and cancel immigration or raise Canadian wage by the % they increase it.
It should also be forced on businesses to raise the wage of an employee by the amount the dollar per hour increases, instead of forcing the worker to interact with the owner about it, which is usually like pulling teeth.
    Is that fine with you?

I've heard nothing but good things about the seasonal work in Canada. Slavery seems like a dramatized version of the worst abuses. Many people where I'm from in the Caribbean like the seasonal nature of the Job and aren't actually seeking to emigrate to Canada permanently. They're usually doing it while building a house back home with that $5:1 exchange rate.
