I bought some Reolink cameras during their Anniversary sale, and I'd have to say that the ColorX technology is very impressive in low-light situations. They are all cameras I intend to deploy outside my house, but I haven't had the time to do that yet.

I use the Reolink PoE cameras and love them. They are the best cameras I've had over the years (and I've tried a lot).

Another great review with excellent critique of the negatives. It feels like some HK accessory reviewers want an 80/20 balance of positive/negative where your reviews are simply a review, regardless of the percent of positive and negative.

Thanks Dr. Cole! It’s an interesting camera because the few, big positives are off-the-charts amazing, but then weighed down by a handful of small downsides.

Can this do 24/7 to sd card?

What if you connect the camera using a power adapter, not solar, can it function as a regular live / and 24Hrs recording ?

For that it’s probably better to go with one of Reolink’s power over Ethernet cameras and then yes you can. I don’t expect a battery camera to record 24/7, but it’s a limitation of the category you have to accept if you can’t run power to the camera.

Yeah but i don't recommend it for anything really important that needs true surveillance. I have some older reolink camera with dead batteries, so I just run a long USB cable from inside to the camera outside. Still works and yes, you can pretty much set it to run 24/7 but it isn't a smooth continuous video. It'll be broken up in clips. There is always a slight delay between detection and recording and sometimes if you are unlucky, you will miss some key image frames during an incident. If you need true uninterrupted recording with guaranteed clear footage, going with a battery camera ain't for you.

    Does it support ONVIF protocol?

Thank you for your video. I have the Argus 4 Pro installed and want to see if you can answer a couple of questions:
    1) Does you spotlight turn on when the camera detects motion at night? Mine does not, even with Auto Mode enabled.
    2) While live viewing the camera in the app, my connection will timeout after a bit and I have to press play again to reconnect to a live feed. Does yours do that? Is there a way to not timeout the connection?

Can I save the footage to my own Synology Server? Do I get an image in the notification if I use my own server?

The reolink app allows you to setup an FTP server which recordings will be transferred to. I have not tried this feature yet, so I have no idea how well it works.

@garanceadrosehn9691 Same here I haven’t tried FTP. I didn’t see RTSP support but I might have missed it somewhere

@@EricWelander Most (all?) battery-powered clip-only cameras don't support industry-standard RTSP and/or ONVIF protocols. I assume that's because those protocols were created before battery cameras and assume a continuous live feed, which would drain the batteries rapidly.
But that is moot because battery-powered cameras have only proprietary API and no ability for sustained continuous streaming anyway.

Did you test it yourself, or did someone else do it? You sure talk a lot but I see no activity. You are not really helping me here.

Given this camera’s specs and wide viewing angle, I think it has the potential to be a perfect backyard camera - at least in circumstances where the downsides don’t get in the way
