Even though the last chef runs a high price restaurant, I love how he is being both laid back and respectful. Not being forceful with suggestions but really wanting them to have what he thinks is to be the correct experience. He's amazing!
I agree. It always struck me curious as to why some cultures are so demanding to do things their way (traditional way) or else you've somehow offended them. I like how he made suggestions on how to experience things in a certain way but wasn't pushy about it.
dude believe it or not, $133 for high quality sushi with an expert chef making it is actually really cheap, many countries including my country, for that kind of service it could costs you up to 250 bucks..
One of my favorite worth-it series episode. I rewatch it just to watch the chef of the last sushi place telling andrew and steven everything about sushi, sushi eating ettiquete, and most importantly asking how do steven and andrew feel toward different dish in a fatherlike manner.
As a guy who has been learning to cook,. that chef who gives food not to just to the interviewer but the crew, really makes me love that idea of cooking. I hope I can do something amazing like that and still bring smiles to everyone
omotenashi- it’s the culture of hospitality and looking after their guests :) It’s quite common in Japan, from things like this to tea ceremonies to just crazy packaging and gift giving
I visited Japan about 4 years ago and a memory that has stayed with me is when i went to a small restaurant in osaka the owner was so nice, she let me borrow a blanket for my legs without me asking for it and she gave all of us hand warmers to take because it was cold. If you're going premium you get premium in Japan on all levels. The experience means everything for the Japanese. The food is just part of the equation.
For $133 a person, that experience was DEFINITELY worth it. His level of hospitality and how he notices details is matchless even with 6 seasons behind them.
I like how when they arrive at the most expensive sushi place, all of them were shy at first and then gradually, they more open up and talk more comfortably

I've actually been to Sushi Kyubey and was lucky enough to get the last table during lunch without a reservation, after stumbling upon it by chance. Wasn't even suited up, but I wonder if they make you dress up only for dinner.

So I came back to this video to report back on the middle place, Sushi Dokoro Shun, because I didn't feel like there was as much commentary on the place. That place is super nice and chill, laid back, despite the ambiance. Also, when he asked if he could give them what he thought was most delicious, that wasn't just a play on Worth it. That's the resteraunts thing. You could legit pick 9-11 items there and enjoy yourself in that wave, or have sushi chef decide for you, or both. Like it's very intimate, this setting with the chef gauging your reactions. It's the polar opposite in a way from the first place where you're crammed in a booth getting food essentially from a robot. Or if you have no time, it still does take out. But I think if you go there, you should go for the experiences with the Chef. I think that experience alone was Worth It.

For example, I left a camera stand (not pricy, but still) in the middle of a street and it'll still be there the next day. Pretty much goes to show how honest and secure Japan really is with personal belongings. Kinda cool
I just love the catering industry in Japan. There are people offering everyday, fun, affordable options as well as high-end, delicate, exclusive experiences. And they all seem respecting each others work. And they are both worth the price.
My thoughts exactly - a three star Michellin restaurant with personal service is an insanely good deal. Like getting a Mercedes for the price of a Ford.
spencereng it’s not an insult. It’s just that tipping isn’t a thing in Japan, so when they receive a tip they don’t know what to do with the extra money, which can confuse the people receiving the tip. Sort of like if you were really hungry and knew that 10 chips would fill you up, so you order 10 chips but then receive 15.

I absolutely love that last chef! Like, the entire thing seemed so great and worth it for its price, but he seemed like such a great dude, insightful and entertaining, kind and respectful (and wanting it back in an equal amount), he completed that package!

All japanese people are precious, damn I love japan.
I visited Japan about 4 years ago and a memory that has stayed with me is when i went to a small restaurant in osaka the owner was so nice, she let me borrow a blanket for my legs without me asking for it and she gave all of us hand warmers to take because it was cold. She was so nice, and asked how Japan was and how our trip was going, she spoke a little bit of english but still tried to make conversation with us. The people in Japan are truly nice and amazing!

That last chef was really nice and modest. Would really like to go to his restaurant now.
Yea so modest that he refers to world leaders as Mr. instead of President. Considering how important prestige and title are in Japan, he is relegating them as being the same as him which means he feels superior to them.

I watch a lot of Asian drama, movies, etc. I find that the Japanese language smoother and the most beautiful in terms of tone. It even sounds like it can be a Latin language at times.
For what it offers
133 dollars per person is an incredibly fair price
Especially when compared to a lot of other fine dining restaurants
I don't mind spending money if it's worth it. $1000 for golds, truffles and fisheggs? That's the lamest way to spend money cuz it's just another meal with not so good taste as well. But $133 for such high quality regular ingredients and such a humble and royal treatment? Count me in.
Have you tried gold, truffle, caviar
I haven’t
Well, caviar and truffles CAN be worth their money... Not gold though. Gold does nothing besides add texture and esthetics. Good quality caviar is really delicious. Same with truffles as well.
The cost isn’t in the flavor. The cost comes from the rarity and quality of the ingredients.

If you're going premium you get premium in Japan on all levels. The experience means everything for the Japanese. The food is just part of the equation.
For $133 a person, that experience was DEFINITELY worth it. His level of hospitality and how he notices details is matchless even with 6 seasons behind them.

Nice.

$133 for such an expert chef and a top quality sushi is actually cheap!
My thoughts exactly - a three star Michellin restaurant with personal service is an insanely good deal. Like getting a Mercedes for the price of a Ford.

And tipping is an insult in Japan, so you don't have to consider that either.
