Thanks Kieran, yeah, it’s a race that shows you the very best of what the Dublin/Wicklow mountains have to offer. It’s on this weekend so if you’re in the area you should take a trip down to the Bray sea front 🌊
Thanks for documenting this wonderful day! Watched it three times already haha. You have motivated me to run the Wicklow Ecotrail 80k this year. Will be my first time in Ireland and first time running 80k!
Ah brilliant, and thanks for watching the video…three times. I hope you have a great run. My advice? Don’t attack it…enjoy it. You’ll have a blast 🏃🏻♂️💪⛰️
Thanks Dave. It was great seeing the full 80km race. I just about dragged myself up the 'baby sugarloaf' on the 19km route. The 80km winner cruised past me on the promenade like it was nothing!
Thanks Tadeusz, yeah the winner seems to have breezed through the course. That Baby Sugarloaf was a killer, so steep. 19km this year, it will be interesting to see where your running takes you over the next 12 months. Wherever it takes you enjoy the journey 🏃🏼♂️😊
@@filmmytrailrun Thanks, I pushed myself and did a half marathon in Tollymore Forest on the weekend. Just watched the Gran Canaria video and it was useful what you said about trailwind, took 500ml at the start, drank through the 1litre on my back and the other 500ml, when I had 3/4 of the 1litre in Bray.
@@filmmytrailrun I'm thinking of registering for next year. 80km would definitely be too much for me but do you think the 47km race is a good introduction to an ultra? I've done a handful of road marathons (I usually finish a bit under 3h30mn) but I have no idea how I would cope on trail with incline.
If you have run 3.30 marathons you are definitely able for the 47km. I’m not sure if you have been running trails already but you do need to get out in the hills because different muscles are worked. My advice would be to get out and recce the course if you have the opportunity and just go for it. You never learn as much as you do on your first ultra. All the best with it and enjoy the journey, after all, that is really the reward.
Well, weren't you blessed with the weather. Another great video, just love your chripyness and admire our comfortable way of clocking out the miles. Hopefully trip across at some event at somepoint, obviously at the start as I'm far your pace. But thanks so much for sharing these adventures with such positivity.
Thanks Shaun, I’m glad you’re enjoying the videos. The Ecotrail is a great festival of trail running with distances to suit all abilities. If I can give you just one piece of advice: Be Consistent. If you get out regularly week after week, month after month, your running fitness and ability will improve 👍
@Film My Trail Run on a running streak of 116 day thus far, with a lap of my block half today with a 5.06m/km average pace, which I'm delighted with. I'd be happy at that pace in Parkrun. Was just behind you at Donadea early this year with a 4.56.50 finish, and that has been one of my highlights. But I'll keep chugging my heavy ass around routes and you never know I might eventually get competitive, but I sort of doubt it. I just love that little personal challenge of doing.
Crikey, you could teach me a thing or two about consistency. Well done mate, sorry we didn’t have a chat in Donadea. Sounds like you enjoy the running and that’s the key to everything
Thanks CR, yeah there are more and more great trail races coming on the scene here in Ireland. I think the Ecotrail is a great entry point for people what with all the distances they offer. The weather being so good helped too 😛. Thanks again for watching.
Yep, happy both with the result and the video. Time to start getting my game face on now for Cape Town. With a setback during the week it’s going to bring its own challenges. Thanks again for watching 😊
Congrats on podium finish Dave and thanks for such a great video! It looked like you breezed through that 80km you were smiling so much😂😂. I will definitely look up the Ecotrail races.
Thanks Sandra, yeah that race definitely put a smile on my face. I don’t know if it was the weather, or my familiarity with the course, or what but there was a happy vibe about the event. Happy running and who knows, I might meet you on a start line at some stage 👍
Thanks Will, yeah, very happy with those…the video and the result. It was a very enjoyable run in the hills with the sun on my back. Can’t ask for better than that.
Congratulations on 3rd place, Dave, especially as you were filming all day too !! You captured some of the most iconic scenery in Wicklow in your video - Bray Promenade, the view from Bray Head to Greystones, the Sugarloaf, Powerscourt Waterfall, the treelined drive of Kilruddery Estate, the open Wicklow mountainscape, Vartry Reservoir. It all has the 'WOW' factor. A perfect day for the run. Well done to EcoTrail for laying on such a magnificent trail run. Thanks Dave for a video that's good for the soul. XXX
Thanks Ozenfant, it really is one of the most beautiful courses I have run. There are lots of distances available too so wherever your fitness is at there is a race for you. Go for it!!
Been waiting on this one enjoyed reliving great day well done great running ..my qauds winced in memory watching the little sugarloaf descent I'm hoping to do the 80k next year
Thanks Patrick, thankfully my quads held up very well on the day…needed them for that final descent from Bray Head 😛. You should definitely do the 80k next year. It really is such a stunning course. I especially loved coming across the sleepers towards Ballinastoe. Keep lacing up those trail shoes my friend, the journey is the reward.
Well done Dave!!!! Brilliant video. Another super achievement in what has been an incredible year for you......so far. I am looking forward to hearing more about the next race. :-)
Thanks Ray, yeah I don’t know how I’m going to top this year but actually the journey is the reward so I’ll just keep the journey going…no different than yourself 💪🏃🏼♂️
Thanks Johnny, yep, the weather was unreal. Makes such a difference. I’ve been out there in very different conditions and it wasn’t nearly as much fun. The course is great too, so much variety….and the view from the sleepers, BOOM…CLASSIC
Ah thanks Richard, you got better value for money, 2 extra hours out in the beautiful Wicklow hills. It sounds like you enjoyed your day too and the good weather was a bonus 👍
Another great view Dave and what a result, podium finisher, just awesome. Loved following your adventures this year, you'll need to let us followers know what's on the calendar for 2023, all the best, take care
Thanks Jon, not only for you kind words here but right throughout the year. It’s been some adventure. I reckon there are 5 videos left in 2022. Only one where I actually need to do any running thankfully 😅. The final one of those will be a look back/look forward video at the end of the year. 2023 has EPIC written all over it. Thanks again mate 👍
Thanks David, yeah it’s been a good year. I will do a lessons learned video on it and will hopefully put a 2022 recap together. I also have one other big race this year….but more on the to come. Thanks again for watching 👍
Brilliant, great run and finish. I ran the 30km race and wish I'd taken a GoPro to capture the scenery. Glad you did the video, brings back the memories. Might even inspire me to make the jump to 80km next year 😉
Thanks Anthony and we’ll done yourself. Yeah, it was a great day out there on the hills. Stay consistent with your running and I have no doubt you could be seen on the start line of the 80k next year 👍
It is my dream to race this race and after watching you. I’m definitely going to do it! One thing how should I train for it? I do about 40-50k a week on trails around Dublin mountains
Sounds like you’re in pretty good shape already but here are my top tips to finish it strong and comfortably: 1. Try to get your mileage up to 80k/week for the 6 weeks leading up to your taper. 2. Try to run often, i.e. 5 to 7 times per week. 3. Don’t worry about intensity, i.e. hill repeats, track intervals etc. your running will improve as a result of 1 and 2 above 3. Get familiar with the course. This is not so much about not getting lost but more about telling your brain how long the hills are and being comfortable that you don’t need to think about where you’re going. 4. Get good quality rest. It is the best form of recovery. 5. Eat sufficient calories to fuel the running you are doing. And that’s it. It’s simple but it’s not easy 😀 All the very best and I hope you have a great race. I will be posting my own race plans for 2023 in the next few days. I filmed it during my long run today. It’s going to be EPIC!!!
@@filmmytrailrun thank you and again thank you. I am looking forward but at the same time, I am scared. I do run about 5-6 times. but only 1x time I do about 20K the rest is with my dog, And I do love running hills. Love it. I will surely see you one day at the race or somewhere around the mountains. Appreciate you took the time and replied to me. thank you
Actually the best advice I can give you is “just go for it”. No harm will come from just giving it a go regardless of how ready or unready you think you are. It’s a safe playground 💪🏃🏼♂️🏃♀️👍
Congratulations, great video.
Definitely one to add too the list ...

Thanks Ian, the EcoTrail in Wicklow is such a great event. Someone needed to go out and capture it. I’m glad I was able to do it justice.

Fantastic work Dave! Brought back some great memories... And some painful ones too!!!
