I can see the resemblance to this song as the base for composing "The Rain Formerly Known as Purple". Considering this is the original (remastered) it makes me appreciate the small bits linking between the first and second game even more.
As I saw your comment about Chanson d'Automne... being good alarm I tried this by myself and I've never changed it since. A whole year passed and I still like it. So thank you for that comment!
Day 1 me and the boys heard this bop hit, immediately stopped fighting to stand still on a side of the map staring at the moon. Anytime an enemy came close we'd decimate it and declare "we're vibin". Its become a thing now, as soon as the song starts you just stop moving and vibe 😂 if we die, we die, but at least we're vibin!
For real big dawg you make probably the strongest game soundtracks out right now, genuinely amazing how well suited to each environment and how tight the orchestration is
“The long sobs of the violins of autumn hurt my heart with Monotonous languor..” Thank you Chris for this beautiful soundtrack. Such a simple song but definitely one of my favorites.
I mean it would not make any sense to add this but imagine how dope it would be if solo from the rain formerly known as purple suddenly dropped at the end of this track
Hey Chris! Now that this song has surfaced again I’ve always wondered about your choice of distorting the tune around 1:00. Does this have any significance? I’d love to see a video about your choice of melody based upon the stage, or even the situation the survivor is in and how that dictates your music. Hope you’ve been doing well.
If you dig into some of the logs you can see that the enemies are called children and parents, I kinda presume that commando is having a hard time digesting the fact that he is killing both of those. Just my theory tho
searched the name of this one from the original soundtrack of sky meadows soundtrack that was 9 years ago... such a good beat, you are the man chris :D
After I beat the original risk of rain a bunch of times. I came back to just hear this song. Boss was beaten on the level, all enemies were dead, timer was ticking past hahaha and at ................. ; meanwhile, I'm freestyling and singing to this song. This is actually one of my favorite songs of all times. Thanks for your creativity Chris
Just a question, what's the difference in the new album other than new art and stuff? Is it higher bitrate? Thank you for the thousands of hours of music chris krissydooloo
All original tracks have been remastered to some degree. It's not something many people will notice (good speakers/headphones are recommended) but I'd like to think they all sound a bit more balanced and have better clarity. And of course there are four new tracks.
The rain formerly known as purple is such a great song, it's probably one of my favorites in all of VGM, so I was completely STUNNED to see it make a comeback here!... ...So much that the music caught me so off guard that I didn't realize the collosals waiting for me (• ▽ •;)
Hello Chris! While I was listening to this track, I couldn't help but wonder why did you name it this way, was it a reference to something else? Or perhaps was it because you thought it sounded cooler in french? Sorry if you already answered this question before, much love from France!
Most drums on this album were made using Battery 4 by Native Instruments. Although the acoustic drums came from Battery 3's library (now discontinued), this piece uses samples from B4, which are more electronica oriented.
@KatherineLangridge-fv6ny If you own a DAW, any DAW, you don't need to buy anything else for music production for a long while, it comes with everything you need. And if it doesn't there's a free VST of whatever you're looking for out there.
@@AstronautDown I have been outgrowing my DAW and wanting to expand into other genres, such as yours. The DAW I am using, REASON, doesn't have good enough factory sounds for my productions. If you have any recommendations for free plugins, i would love to hear them! Most free plugin list are just useless niche plugins.
Also, if you have any other orchestral tracks like wander lust or This sea will claim everything, i beg of you to release them! I love making orchestral music, and would really appreciate the inspiration.
Another question Mr. Christodoulou, which synths are being used to make the descending Arps at 1:05 and 1:33? And also, what is that breathy pad that plays throughout the whole song? It sounds so good, especially at 2:33. Love the expression!
Most things in ROR1 are made using Omnisphere. Anything that sounds chiptuney is made with Plogue Chipsounds. Battery 4 was used for most drums. There are other things of course, but those three are the core of the OST.
It's a combination. Usually I start from a preset and depending on how close it is to what I want I do some additional design on it. Almost all the time I add modulation control points because I want to be able to change the sound's various aspects as I play.
Chris, I'm sorry to bother you but what VST did you use for the clarinet and oboe? I'm searching for a woodwind library to use in my orchestral template.
They are from 8Dio's Claire series. I would say it's more a solo oriented library rather than orchestral setting, and they are not particularly good at fast passages. But you can check them out. Personally I use the Orchestral Tools Berlin series as my core orchestral and then have other stuff as additions. I think their Woods are pretty good, and also they use their own engine now which is a huge plus because Kontakt sucks.

Same with coalescence

Sky meadow has never been so enchanting
Sky Meadows has the best theme in both games hands down, happy to see this classic remastered!

Legend of the autumn song
Lo-Fi beats to dodge roll to.
My favorite song from the original. Love to hear it.
Like the Parent to the Child; that is The Rain Formerly Known as Purple. 🙏

Hello Chris! While I was listening to this track, I couldn't help but wonder why did you name it this way, was it a reference to something else? Or perhaps was it because you thought it sounded cooler in french?
Sorry if you already answered this question before, much love from France!
The title comes from a french poem so I kept it in its original language :)
Paul Verlaine's chanson d'automne I assume? And thank you for your lightning fast response :)
it took a while for the rain to be known as purple.
What drum plugin are you using for the main groove? sounds so good. Flippin' LOVE this track! Keep up the incredible work!

@KatherineLangridge-fv6ny I have a few internal hard drives that are dedicated to hosting sample libraries.
It has a very melancholy vibe compare to the one in RoR 2.

You are correct (except for a loudness adjustment). In fact this was used as a sonic template for all the other remasters.
