- It's another one all-in-one Game King thing! With marginally better games than the last one, although that's not saying much.
This time it looks like a DS Lite and enables the following gaming joys: Tank! In which a tank shoots other tanks - The Wall! In which an octopus hides behind some bricks and you toil to expose him - King Boxing! In which two men slap at each other whilst trapped in a very small room - Star War! In which some aircraft get into a bit of a scrap above a lake of some kind - Risk King! In which a mutant rabbit exactly recreates Super Mario Bros.
It's the death of joy in gaming, one stolen soundtrack at a time. Наука
that tank game music was the beverly hills cop theme! LOL
wow
Ik, I noticed at the beginning, I was like ik this, oh it's Axle f, so if we think more on it, the crap game may have lore, as the tank he uses versed the ones he fights are very different, and the guy he shot didn't look anything like a human 4:30 , u may wonder where I'm going with this, but few may remember that in monsters verses aliens the president went up all the stairs to a keyboard where he then played this song, and it ended up making the alien mad, so he might be fighting aliens in this game, think about it, it's a stupid theory, but so is the game
I think it's really cool how they used the red backlight LED whenever you take damage. That's just an interesting mechanic, for a game with a dot matrix LCD screen to have that sort of color element. It was quite surprising actually.
yeah honestly this isnt really that bad in fact it seems downright enjoyable in the right situation
I know it's all stolen, but the music on this thing actually seems pretty good in comparison to how these things usually work.
***** WHAT I CANT HEAR YOU..brrrrr xD
You don't like the south bank show theme?
@@queazocotal Which game has the South Bank Show theme?
@@wtos9153 It's a common theme from many PopStation units. Stuart usually points out when a PopStation has it.
Watching the tank part all I can hear is Peter Griffin singing 'na na na na na na and then another na na na na na'!
Was the start of Tank Gerudo valley? Yeah, pretty sure it's a small segment of Gerudo valley from Ocarina of time.
+Foxymew Indeed it was.
No, it isn't. it's some song that i can't remember the name of. it's old, though.
oh wait, it actually says the name in the bottom of the screen when he tries to remember what it's from.
No no. I meant the very start. The intro music. Not the one in the actual game.
Ah yeah, that does sound like the chords to Gerudo Valley. And the in-game music seems to be an incredibly off-key rendition of Axel F.
It's either Gerudo Valley or The Final Countdown (this is more likely)
anyone else notice that the wall game is the miniclip logo...huh
Yup, I said that here a very long time ago. RUclips lost my comment. I'm glad I'm not the only one to have recognized that though!
were not so different...You and I...
Why so bread That website is so old. Good memories.
Gabriel Brown I know right, was pretty much PC gaming for me before realising what steam was and graphics cards and other shit like that... If you had an up to date shockwave player you were fine haha xD
Oh god, Miniclip was the best.
It's almost awesome that someone went to quite a bit of effort to re-create popular games with such craptacular hardware (the sounds actually not that bad, but the lack of pixels must have made development tricky)
If I recall, you played a racing game that played Axel F. That tank game used the same song, just in a different part of the song.
Actually it is the beverly hills cop song
@@proot174 The name of which is Axel F.
I don't know if Ashens scripts these before filming them, but if it's stream-of-consciousness, then I admire how funny he is and how well-spoken he is. You rarely hear him stutter or say "um". It's really respectable.
They're definitely scripted and edited; he's just good at hiding cuts.
The TANK music is Axel F.
The song the Crazy Frog goes with.
No....that's the theme to Beverly Hills Cop. That little turd of a frogs song is stupid.
Michael Daniel Also sounded alot like part of Gerudo valley from Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time
Edit: I was thinking of the intro music for the game
Lolsniper541
Yeah, I can hear it too now. But the main part is from Beverly Hills Cop.
bronie
Mastermind Zebra
Who cares?
The music that sounded similar is actually the tone often played in Beverly hills cop.
+AoV Shift Axel F
I absolutely love how "Tank" is a poorest man's Jackal featuring Gerudo Valley and Axel F. Good stuff. I genuinely wish you could say that about more video games!
Risk king will be my favorite game to play on this handheld, technically i see hich potential in such handheld, since the hardware is fully programmeble, also the background layer on those games really gives the ellusion effect of having a scrolling background ,i can see homebrewers making games for such handheld, the technology is simple but effective.
Anyone else notice that "TANK" intro music is the start of the Gerudo Valley theme from Ocarina of Time? :')
holy shit it is
Nathan Rudge and also axel f
"Oh well, you can't blame a guy for trying."
I can and I do. I blame you very much, Mr. Ashen.
Glad the Closed Captions are going to good used, and are well appreciated.
I know there's a bit of a delay between an Ashens upload and the upload of the Closed Captions, but I have to type them up and submit them first. I aim for them to be ready to be up within 24 hours of the upload, but they do take a little while to make, alongside the fact I have to work in the day.
This is remarkably good for what it is, I am not even kidding! If I had this as a kid in the 1990s I would have been very happy! The only ones I had back then of these cheap games were 1001 games in one unit - all tetris but slight different rules...lol There was one that had shooters and snake as well which was epic but by then I had real consoles so did not care any more...
+Defensive Wounds I remember those things, they are still around! I had a pretty decent one back in the day, it had not only shooter games, but a racing game as well, although a quite simple one.
brick game?
awesome oliver Exactly! It's not more than 2 dollar on eBay including shipping!
This is so much better than a Brick Game.
I'm so glad you told us it was Axel-F - I was actually going to rip my hair out if I didn't work it out myself!
One of the few people on youtube with which subtitles actually work pretty well
I watched this video a few times before getting the Parappa reference. Well done, Ashens.
Is the background music for Tank, Beverly Hills cop?
Sounds like it. But I'm more concerned about the striking resemblance between the opening music for Tank and Gerudo Valley from LoZ: Ocarina of Time.
trunkwontopen I though I was the only one who thought that it sounded like LoZ. I guess ripping off music is easier then making your own
BlackMetalSofJak Well, when you are making crappy games, there's no holds barred when it comes to ripping off other's work.
Axel F
"Patented product"...it's a good thing they patented this original design.
Patented product... but we’re not telling you by whom! 😆
a new Ashens video makes me smile.
I love how the arcanoid clone is from the old flash site miniclip
memories
2:57 Geroudo Valley from Zelda, Ocarina of Time
The song is Axel F, so it's not from any videogame. Let
(Axel F, for those of you who don't know is that song that crazy frog made popular)
It's from Beverley Hills Cop too.
***** Axel Foley is from beverly hills cops >.>
gozob Yes...?
***** dunno was just confused. You said it was from beverly hills cops too, but the first person said it was axel F which is from beverly hills, that's all o.o
gozob He explains it's Axel F but he is referring to the song that was stupidly popular almost a decade ago with a character called the Crazy Frog.
"let's open it up, and pretend we're intrested." -ashens, 2012
reminded me of that music track too.
the complete "gerudo valley" track was stuck in my head right after I heard it and I didn't even could recall where I knew it from until you guys in the comments pointed it out :D
i would totally buy this shit, i dont give a fuck what you guys say
Beverly Hills Cop or Crazy frog....sod it kill the frog!!
The in-game music on The Wall is the bassline from the "Steady Pulse" track in Theme Hospital.
Awesome, you got your closed captions back!
...
Oh, and great vid too.
Another Axel F music ripoff for Tank?
gerudo valley lol
+DrHotelMario I thought it was just me. -.-
I have a PCP Station with a lot of these games, but this seems to be running the games faster. I don’t know if this is sped up or the PCP Station is slowed down. I guess it depends on the speed of the original Game King.
The intro music for the Tank game... I listened to the actual song that this was based on (Zelda Ocarina of Time's Gerudo Valley I think). I wonder if there are any tutorials for playing the song on an ocarina, because ocarinas are my favorite instruments, but I think it might be difficult for me to learn the song, because I'm not used to playing short and fast notes on my ocarinas
This came far too late in pretty sure if this would have came out in the 70s or early 80s it would have been a hit
So some people from the future went back to the 80s and picked up some people and dropped them in the present day. Now YD has found a way to profit off of them!
LOL, I don’t actually believe that. Just a joke.
"The Wall!!!" * shows an image of the Miniclip M logo *
How have I not seen this video yet? I've been subbed to him for over 5 years yet every now and then I keep finding a video or two that I haven't seen. It's so strange.
I remember this when I was younger about 7 risk king was my favourite game even though I found it very difficult and then I remember it was pretty good.
Oh, HERE'S your review on the YD-965 Dot Matrix! I first saw Tweeterman's review of it and a couple of people (including me) were baffled as to why Ashens hadn't seized the opportunity yet.
I'm tempted to go looking for some of these things myself. The closest I've gotten is one of those water hoop toys shaped like a PSP. Found it in Chinatown, SF. The tat we have here is too high quality.
The song that played during the tank game is called "Axel F" by Harold Faltermeyer. :)
The music for Tank is a small part of the song Axel F repeated over and over again, but it has been put into a different key.
Does anyone know if that... "elevator music" he has on when he tells us about Extra Ashens is royalty-free and if so, what it's called?
5:37 The music from 'The Wall' is the song 'Steady Pulse' from Theme Hospital.
Bonus sunday video. Can't complain you the man ashens.
"In these times of austerity, they can only afford the one"
HAha, one of your best lines ever. Even makes up for you not knowing Axel F.
How to change the angle of the ball:
[deleted]
Deleting that because I was wrong the first time. Here’s the updated version:
It had to do with which button you’re pressing down when it hits the paddle. There are three angles you can hit it at. If you hold the opposite direction than the ball the angle will become more vertical, and if you hold the same direction as the ball, it will become more horizontal. It’s during that one frame where the paddle doesn’t move.
The song that plays in the background in the tank game is Axel's theme from the 1984 Paramount picture "Beverly Hills Cop". You're welcome.
The music in "King Fighter" is from Duke Nukem 3D on the first level (E1M1), listen about 50 seconds in.
ashens excitement at Zangeef was great.
7:32 I think this is the first time I have EVER heard anyone reference Parappa the Rapper in a crappy LCD Dot Matrix game. Thank you Ashens.
The fact it's always the same thing is part of what makes the reviews funny. Especially Pop Station and the like. The very, very like.
The tank game is like the music from the party that Peter went to when he went back in time
I saw pictures of Norfolk, man is that place beautiful!!!
Glad the Closed Captions are getting good use, and are well appreciated!
In the game, players can use Up, Down, Left, Right buttons to control the game characters moving directions. By pressing 'up' buttons two times continuously according to two consecutive jump on one level UP button, DOWN button twice for skip to the next level. A, B button to attack, when the players on the left can even increase by two key LEFT Qigong A key made, even by two additional B button LEFT key hair trick, on the right is the RIGHT button twice plus A key hair Qigong.
The song at the end is really nice, its a smooth and jazzy sort of tune, I wonder if he made it...
Is the Tank music a slightly obscured and minimalistic version of Harold Faltermeyer's "Axel F"
I saw Tweeterman287 review this once. I was reminded of it by the other Game King video.
TANK seems to be a passable "Dot Matrix" version of TNK or Iron Tank.
Still, the system is pretty damn impressive for having scrolling in Risking / Risk King.
Not sure if it's just me but the song Ashen's was trying to figure out while playing "tank" sounded like the theme song from the Beverly Hills Cop Series
The YD-965, also known as the DS Shite.
The music in "TANK" is a part of the tune in Axel F, made to repeat and sound like drums! I've dicovered it!!!
Good catch, I was racking my brain and was about to comment that it was Axel F, but u beat me to it. Well done :)
Oh! Oh! You're referring to a different song! The song I was talking about is at 2:56 where the "TANK" menu screen is showed. That's actually Gerudo Valley. I weren't talking about the music played when Ashens is actually playing the game. Sorry for the confusion.
i have had this for 6 months, and now a review came out
LA Meltdown, that music is engraved into my brain from childhood ;P
I just notice something..... The game over song used for the game "Star War" at about 10:50 is the game over song used in Contra for the NES. It is just missing the last 4ish notes. Can this company come up with anything original? .... Guess not.
The first thing I asked myself when King Boxing started was "Can he rip off his limbs to use as projectiles?"
one of the sprites used in king boxing, the one on the left, looks like the guy from the bad dudes NES version.
Hmm? Anything wrong with those captions? Any feedback is always welcome! :-)
The captions on this video are actual pretty good...
The box art for The Wall on the back of the packaging was a screencap of a breakout game from Miniclip.com... Never forget that M logo anywhere.
Not sure if anyone already pointed this out, but Im pretty sure the guy on the left on the titlescreen to King Boxing is nicked from Bad Dudes for the NES. He looks a bit TOO identical for it to be a coincidence..
Oddly enough, "The Wall" has the logo for a free flash game site called Miniclip as its preview screenshot. At least, I assume, it's been ages since I went on that site.
Isn't the wall's picture the picture from an online game site? I kind of forgot the name.
The song in tank is called axel F, it's by Harold faltermyer and was in Beverly hills cop
Has anybody mentioned yet that the game over theme for STAR WAR is the game over music from CONTRA?
In the intro screen to the fighting game the sprite on the left is ripped from that NES port of Bad Dudes...why do I know this?
I may be out of my mind, but the King Boxing game is Duke Nukem 3D ost - Stalker.
Tell me if I'm wrong
It took me a minute to pick it up upon watching the video, but I noticed it as well, glad that I wasn't crazy!
Ok, the captions are way too...right. Has Google actually fixed it? Or do up-loaders actually have the ability to set the captions? We may never know!
It took me a few minutes to realize that too. It's funny how figuring out where they stole the music from is more fun than actually playing the games.
you're deserve a cookie for giving me such amazing information.
How do I cloud found this, this this the best indie project I have ever seen!!
At least the makers tried it alot more than on the Pop stations.
The grayscale dot matrix is really not bad.
Is it just me, or is the song from tank..the same thing as Gerudo Valley from the Legend of Zelda series?
In the TANK game, the main song during gameplay is Liberty Hill's Cops.
Did you try the standard special move inputs (like quarter circle forward and an attack key)?
Not only that, but the Introduction music that plays on the Start/Continue menu of "TANK" is part of the Gerudo Valley BGM from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
At the start isnt the wall game sign the miniclip logo?
TweeterMan287 already took a bite out of this one, but Ashens being the great guy he is makes it funnier.
The Tank game's intro music was the intro to the Gerudo Valley theme from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
What were the enemies in Risk King supposed to be? Aggressive gem lettuces maybe..?
7:00 You know you've hit bottom when you start ripping Bad Dudes sprites.
The tune in tank, sound very much like a uk sports show theme, i think it sounds like the snooker tournament theme from years ago.
I think it was saying to tap right or left twice, then the B button for a special move.
I actually had a tank game on Game Boy Pocket that was almost identical to that tank game, it was called Trax. Unbelievably, Wikipedia doesn't have a page for it.
I seem to remember that music being in at least one of the levels in a Jurrasic Park game on the Gameboy...
