commenters remarked that this is a sought-after piece of lost media in the doll community, and i just happened to stumble across it as seen on brutalmoose Mystery Tapes episode 6
It’s wild just how much content there has ever been on television that has only aired once. Stuff like this is always a treat to see discovered! Thanks for uploading!
these guys are the same people who had to criticize/ beef with Barney, pokemon and Furby but went gaga for Beanie Babies, assuming their ages, I can pretty much guess what type of people they are now in the present time, and boy are they a huge pain in the ass these days. Glad the newer Barbie fans/ toy/doll collectors aren't much like the older fans mindsets from back then.
Like I don’t think kids ever thought of Barbie as sexy. I think they thought she was cool and pretty but like I feel like this documentary is so misogynistic because women and little girls never thought of sex when they played with Barbie
@@dotdotdotdotdotdotdottodThis whole thing has such a condescending vibe honestly from where I currently am in the runtime. The whole treatment of the adult collectors, and the host not hiding how DEEPLY DISTURBING he finds it that adults can like pretty dolls is pretty laughable. (Not to mention the obvious sexism.) Seemed like it might've covered some interesting history about Barbie, but as ever, we need to get bogged down in hate and sensationalism instead of just discussing the topic fairly. Awesome!! My cousin and I played together with Barbies. It was the best fun and we wouldn't trade those years for anything. It didn't affect us negatively. Considering what kids are exposed to these days, it was innocent and imaginative play.
Haven't watched the entire thing yet, but I'm already checking off spots on my "normies-misunderstanding-doll-collecting" bingo card, with Lili being referred to as a "sex doll" and the host's reaction to this blond convention lady's collection. I had a lot of Barbies growing up. Though I found Barbie intriguing and unique, I wasn’t really that interested, not even as a kid. I gave all of mine away as I got older, most of the to a friend of mine who loves and collects Barbie dolls. Great special btw.
I find it ironic that Mattel went overboard suing companies that dared to copy their doll model yet Mattel themselves had copied the exact model of someone else’s doll. Doesn’t Mattel owe that Lili doll company a lot of money at this point? Lol I personally don’t care, just commenting on the irony of their vicious business tactics. I love Barbie no less.
They're definitely not the company to fight with, that's for sure. and it's even worse if you think about it because mattel bought out the company that made bild lili and shut them down, and their feud with hasbro in the 80's over Jem was brutal. Haha, we're all here from Brutalmoose's Mystery Tapes video. I am sure glad to see it uploaded here, and it was a very interesting watch! I laughed more than a few times, especially 17:54-18:03, and Stephanie Joseph at 41:21 and 42:34. I loved her and all of her passion and creativity. It's too bad that she felt that way about her legs then; I did, too. If she was 10 in 1998, then we're the same age today. I still occasionally buy dolls if I see potential to mod them. I find that a lot of fun to do, to find the right kind of paint for their skin and the right hair type and texture to reroot the dolls' hair. It's difficult to remove the hair that's already there if the hair is glued in from the inside, but the end result is rewarding. I wish I had more time to do it these days, because this video inspired me to pick those projects back up!
This documentary is good but hate how much emphasis they put on sex and Barbies body! It’s kinda gross and very obvious that this was made by a group of straight men!!
That's the 90s, these types of old mindsets are some if the things that should stay in the past, I glad we proggressed since then. People that nitpick these things these days would likely be canceled or look like a creep/pervert which is good cause this is a toy/doll.
