30th Anniversary Interview: Gertjan Van Olst & Charlotte Fry

- Our third interview takes us to Van Olst Horses in the Netherlands, where Gertjan van Olst and Charlotte (Lottie) Fry found time in their busy schedules ahead of the Paris Olympics, to sit down and have a chat with us.
The team at Van Olst, including Gertjan and his wife Anne, together with Lottie, are a remarkable success story of breeding and sport working hand in hand.
Gertjan has an eye for choosing the right horses, with a yard full of stallions that have excelled at international level, and a string of promising youngsters that will no doubt make their mark in the sport as well.
Absolutely wonderful to listen to Gertjan speak about the importance of studbooks and data sharing! Here in the Southern Hemisphere, we are making significant strides in changing the perceptions of riders, breeders and owners. We aim to help them realise and understand the value of not only verifying pedigrees but also including their horses in registers for provenance and insight opportunities. By collaborating with the Australasian Horse Breeders Federation, we are developing the necessary management tools and services to support individual breed organisations. This effort will help overcome some of the barriers we face and increase the visibility of Australasian horse breeding on the global stage, just as it is in Europe and other parts of the world. We are excited for the change that is coming!
