When they say 'the wellbeing of the horses always comes first', it doesn't for all riders. I do find the timing of this video release suspect though. Why wasn't this released four years ago when it happened?

  • @NanetteWhite
    @NanetteWhite 25 дней назад

    There’s so much misunderstanding about this whole situation, so many seeing and commenting just don’t know about horses. I’m not condoning charlottes actions, she was overusing the whip, but most of the noises were whip cracks, not the whip hitting the horse. Horses are herd animals, in a herd there is a lead mare, a stallion and a pecking order. Horses generally ‘know their place’ in a herd, and when one steps out of line one above it will let it know, in no uncertain terms. Horses are not meek mild animals, they’re built to survive, theyl defend themselves, violently if necessary, they rear, plunge, bite, kick, chase with their ears back and teeth bared. In a domestic setting, horses naturally see humans as the leader. They are for the most part, obedient and complying, and do their best to please their masters. If you ask a bit more, theyl do a bit more, in my experience, the most common reason a horse refuses to do something is out of fear. Train the horse to overcome his fear, and hel continue to comply. In that short clip, there are so many things we don’t know, what was the briefing before the lesson? Was the use of the whip discussed? The rider and owner, they didn’t seem to object! In fact the person videoing was laughing!!! Theres a whole lot more to this than meets the eye, and people should reserve judgment and let the FEI do its job. If lessons are learned and welfare for horses improves, then good, at least something positive has come out of it. But that horse was not suffering, it was not being abused, it will not be traumatised, it will not be in pain for days after… the whip was to that horse, nothing more than a minor annoyance, as shown by the flick of the heels a couple of times. It was moving forward (cantering not piaffe, where did that come from?) it was trumpeting in a relaxed manner, no one was shouting or losing their temper, in fact the hand holding the whip was relaxed, casually flicking it, not using force. If this were a case of abuse, the rider would have been on the floor, and the horse running for the door, and Charlotte might’ve got double barrelled with both hind legs while it was passing! A fearful horse, being abused would be frozen to the spot, its head up, ears back, eyes rolling, shaking, ready to fight or run. This whole thing has been blown up out of all proportion, that horse is fine! And the horses competing at these levels have the best care money could buy. There are far more, and I mean FAR MORE areas of animal welfare that need addressing, I’d say the rollkur issue is more pressing than this. I wouldn’t object if whips and spurs were banned in all disciplines, they should not be needed. But there are so many cases of abuse and neglect for people to campaign and fight against if they want, you just don’t see them on t.v…
