In England, just reports that it might snow causes panic, all shops run out of food, the roads turn to stand still, everyone crashes their cars and thousands of old people die

This was one of the most interesting and humorous videos yet. I remember blizzards like the one in this video when I was a kid living in New England in the 1960s and 70s. Snow was no big deal; you just basically put snow chains on your tires and went about your business. Living in Florida now, I think it hasn't snowed here in maybe 45 years.
That's funny. When my grandparents first moved from New Hampshire to Florida in 1990 or so, it snowed in Saint Augustine! It turned to rain about 3 feet off of the ground. My grandpa said, "That's it, we have to move south, it's too cold up here!"

In the UK there is a general panic when severe winter storms arrive, much like you describe from your visit to New York. We are always poorly prepared for severe winters. What we call a blizzard Siberians consider it to be sunbathing weather 😆
Dear Eli, that was a brilliant video and you are all so brave jumping into the freezing water, I couldn't do that it would give me a heart attack, but you make the video so jolly and entertaining and also informative on how people cope with extreme conditions.
I live in Texas and basically the whole state falls apart when it snows because people down here aren’t used to the cold/winter. It’s very annoying because I dislike the heat and the 2 1/2 months we get of winter here comes and goes too fast!😣 I would love to learn a Cyrillic language and move to an Eastern European country (My family comes from Ukraine and Russia) where it actually gets cold!!!
I live in In California's Central valley and I have the same exact complaint, far too few months of winter and even the months of winter we do get are much to mild. I spent almost all of my life growing up in New York and so coming out here is absolutely terrible for me
Yep- Texan here too- when I lived in north Texas, the most snow I ever saw was about 10 inches and we were shut down for a week. It only got down to -4. 2 years ago practically the whole state shut down and the ice broke power lines and froze water, so lots of people were without any heat, power, or water for a week. I think we got around 5 inches of snow. In some places it took over a month for power lines to be replaced. I think we were out of school for 10 days total. My parents lost power at the ranch so their well froze. Mom had to go out several times a day to check the cows. She saved a new calf from A coyote waiting for it to freeze.

Hi, Eli, I like your vedios about divers Russia cultures, and watched many. My hometown is in North-east of China, very close to Russia, so I have nearly same experience about this kind of snowstorm weather. So I can understand more details in your vedio. It brought me back so many memories of my childhood. Now, It has been many years I didn't see snow.
Eli, I live in a small city in south of Canada. Even in "the south" our daily activities are controlled by the snow. Today is Saturday. I have spent 3 hours today shoveling snow off my walk and driveway. Yesterday, I spent 3 hours shoveling snow from my walk and driveway. Snow is a way of life - until the middle of March. You learn to accept it and carry on.
As someone who is currently living in the south of England where it snows about 5 days a year maximum I do get jealous of Canadian snow sometimes, but then I realise how lucky I am not having to deal with it
Ms. Eli, watching your videos has become one of my favorite You Tube pastimes. What you call a "Snow cleaning machine" We call a road grater here in America. That's said, they are also used to removed snow in some of our northern states. I live in a small city of about 46,000 in Kansas. It is far enough south that severe snowstorms are rare. Maybe once a year we get a snowstorm which gives us more that 6 inches of snow. Large trucks remove the snow from the main streets. But usually not the side streets. The snow does not stay here. We are on the same latitude as Spain. It warms up again to 18 to 20 C. Even in the wintertime. Our winters are fairly mild. Dunking yourself in the Artic. Climbing very tall mountains. Your videos never fail to entertain.
Live in new Jersey. If we get more than three inches of snow everything is closed. Transportation is at a stand still.😮 You are doing a good job Eli with your Russian adventures. I am learning a lot I never knew. Keep up the good work.😂
Keep it up, Eli. Best Russian RUclipsr so far. Your approach to your culture and the way you show your country is really informative. BTW, I would take the cold bath. I just wouldn't take it in a lake because I know for certain that there are currents, and I know tragedies have happened during those baths, some of them with small children watching their mother disappear under the ice, which was as tragic as anything can be. Good for those who dip in the freezing water, just make sure to play it safe. We have just one life.
Really love your vlogs. We say… snow plows, snow shovels and snow blowers. I am in southern Ontario, Canada. It was -14c with wind chill -23. We had about 30 cm of snow this morning.
I just found your channel and am really enjoying it. It seems that you have numerous people that love it to. Thank you for taking me to a different place.
I'm happy that I found your channel. My great grandparents came to the US from Russia. Your videos are a great insight into how people are. I love how humble most people seem to be.
Elina - I'm from Michigan (USA) and we used to have 6 to 8 inch snow as a youngster, but not much snow the past maybe 10 years. Don't know why, but it was delightful to see your fantastic water dipping in the cold weather. Looks like fun ... er, Chilly Fun. Lovely video. Thanks for sharing. -Carey
Here in SE Virginia, the temperature got down to 25°F. The news said it would be terrible which caused a "locust" effect in the stores like Walmart, Food Lion, Target, and Aldi's. That night it snowed, the accumilation melted the next day with temps of 50°F the next day then 60's F the following days.
I live in himalayan mountains ..here the minimum temp we often experience is around -11°c ....i cant imagine to live in -50 or above..even in top of everest its around -30 to -40 ...btw i love winters and your vlog..your storytelling is just amazing ♥️
Good video. Russia is similar to Canada in climate. We are northern people just like Russian people. Cold and snow do not stop us, however, there are times when children miss school because school buses are unable to navigate roads that are not plowed yet. A snowstorm is a good time to go for snowshoeing. And personally, I enjoy cold water so I, like many Canadians, enjoy immersion in cold water during wintertime. In Russia cold water enthusiasts are called Walrus. In Canada, Polar Bears. The Epiphany bathing is very interesting and it reflects the spirit of Russian people. Very interesting. Immersion in an ice hole is good. Thank you!
Ellie, you and your friend are brave to dip yourselves into the freezing cold water outside in the freezing cold winter. I don't even like cold showers forget about cold bathing. As for the winter storms we get them here too in Canada. Some times there would be a snow day for the kids to not go to school but the adults have to go to work regardless of the snowstorm outside if they want money to pay for their rent and pay their bills and buy groceries to feed the family.
Elina, the snow machines are called plow trunks in the U.S. For safety reasons, public schools are closed during snowstorms. Even with 3 to 4 inches of snow forecast, schools will close. They worry about bad road conditions that would cause accidents. Your videos are very interesting. Thanks for taking us around Russia. You have journeyed into areas which are less travelled. Bravo!
I live in western Washington state in the US. We receive very little snow in the low lands, and snow of any amount usually causes problems here. 2.5cm will close most schools. 10cm will close most everything else. Only on the west side of the state is this the case, mountains divide the state and the east side takes a lot more snow than the west and is rarely bothered by the snow.
In response to your experience of a light snow storm in America ... I am British, aged 53. I have noticed a trend over my lifetime of people becoming less able to deal with uncomfortable situations. When I was a child, we just walked to school in the snow if it snowed. Now, they declare an Emergency for it and close the schools! (Edited to add) ... many things that were in the range of "normal life" when I was a kid are now considered dangerous.
I remember riding in the back of the truck or fighting with my sister to lay in the back window of the car at night so we could stare up at the stars.. lol definitely different then the coddled safe space kids now.. probably why western society is failing too.. spoiled and entitled as well as afraid to get dirty or break a nail.. I am not crazy old either.. 44.. alot has changed and very quickly.. not for the better either
I absolutely love ❤ this video. I lived like that in Alaska. On glaciers I would wash up in glacier water. Some places have cold pools that I've tried. Nothing compares to real life experiences. These people are fabulous in their videos. Bless you all.
Here in Minnesota we call snow cleaning machines snow plows. We do call snowmobile the same as you. In Alaska they are called snow machines. I’m glad to see you are embracing and enjoying Winter. Here in Saint Paul we celebrate by having a week long Winter Carnival. Activities include polar plunges. You inspire me to try it. Excellent video.
In Canada, we don’t always see our neighbours as much as we should but when it snows, everyone comes outside to shovel and all of the kids play all at the same time.
When I was 16, I had friends with a house by a lake. They had a sauna and kept a hole in the ice to dive in after a very hot sauna (190F). We did this 3 times before bed and slept very well after. We would take a very cold glass of wine into the sauna. We had the same feeling after the cold dip. You felt warm even though no clothing and sitting outside for a few minutes. Now I have a sauna in my home, but it is not as good without the hole in the ice.
Eli, again you are so brave and venturesome to share this part of the winter world with us! I had to laugh when you pointed out that Americans can be wimps in comparison when "Stella" hit New York City. And it was amazing that you shot such a good video under such harsh conditions. I'm so happy to be in Phoenix, Arizona, today where it will be 80 degrees. We have a saying here: "You don't have to shovel sunshine."
@@ElifromRussia Did you go to film school? Your videos are very well done. If you didn't go to film school, you have a natural ability, a gift. I have judged films in the past. I even made one, and I know how hard and time consuming it can be.
Cool videos! I just found your channel. I am an upstate New Yorker. That's so funny you were in NYC during storm Stella because that storm gave us well over three feet maybe close to four! feet! We get pounded with lake effect snow up here but nobody as bad as Buffalo New York. This video was reminding me of all the snow we get up here all winter! But NYC doesn't get much snow which is probably why they shut down with so little. They mostly stay open up here unless it's really icy or bad. But Stella gave me the biggest snowfall I ever saw! I can't wait to watch more of your videos! Russia is so interesting and beautiful lands, and culturally similar to my Polish heritage.
I live in Sask, Canada. During blizzards, everything stays open. Public transit, schools, shops, etc. Although, if it were to drop to -40°C or below, school busses will not run, for obvious reasons. But everything remains open.
Same when I was a kid in Wisconsin!! It was business as usual . I think too many places in America have turned into whimps . People need to toughen up & power thru!
I remember winters in elementary school in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Our country school half-buried these huge tractor tires in the ground and we would scramble to get inside these tires to get out of the cold. Someone else usually got there first 😂 it was torture.
If Petrópolis, RJ, Brazil ever gets that much of snow, it would probably mean the end of life around here. I would surely like to visit Murmansk someday! Beautiful video, thank you!
That was so familiar for me to watch, because this is ever so common in my town in Northern Ontario Canada. I love snow storms!! Our schools and stores still stay open too. We have much in common ❄️☃️❄️
Amazing. Such resilient fortitude in the Russian character built from accomplishing daily needs within super powerful inclement weather. Ice bathing looks like heaps of fun. A combined sauna/ice bath ritual would be the way to go for me. I want to explore Murmansk.
I'm from Salt Lake City; we know snow, too. Although new drivers lack experience of how to drive in snow. Snow trucks clear off snow. Then, we head up to mountains for fun. Snow sledding. all winter activities. West Yellowstone Montana is very much like where this video was filmed. I love deep snow.

I’m sad to see the politics ruin the lives of so many. I hope that you and your family will be ok in this time. I love your videos and you bring out the beautiful and the real from your experiences.
It's what politicians do - ruin the lives of ordinary people. My own country, the UK, is no exception.
“Even a little boy is pushing the car.”😌
I love the Russian people and hate their government
You gave me a motivation to visit the Russian Artic and of course dive into the cold water.
As a matter of fact I am winter ❄️ diver and it could be a challenge now for me!
Nice and very interesting video of yours.
Greetings from Greece.
It's literally amazing.Love your channel.Take care, God bless you
In England, just reports that it might snow causes panic, all shops run out of food, the roads turn to stand still, everyone crashes their cars and thousands of old people die
Incredible, amazing video ! Ellie ,you are a truly natural cinematographer...The way you organize your visual images of the unique places you choose , toguether with your clear and pleasant narration, makes your videos great and worth watching. When you talk, I feel like I am right there by your side. I love you my friend ; you are the best !!! _ Your friend from Puerto Rico, Edwin Oliveras
South Florida here, there was a cold snap here around 12 years ago that killed a lot of the iguanas, it never snowed though.
@@ElifromRussia Keep making Your videos! Dont stop because there war between Russia & Ukraine! I love Russians and Ukranians, not Your fault that mad politicians are making war! We love You and Your videos, Thank You!
I’m from Wisconsin USA & I remember snow & cold like this quite often ! Like you, we just got out there & powered through!!
Lol at these Americans comparing their snow experiences to northern siberia. Cute
Living in a tropical island of Bali, Indonesia, I couldn't imagine how cold it is there. I really amaze with you and raise my hat to people there. Such an adventure, Eli..! 👍🏾👍🏾
In the UK there is a general panic when severe winter storms arrive, much like you describe from your visit to New York. We are always poorly prepared for severe winters. What we call a blizzard Siberians consider it to be sunbathing weather 😆
18:54 Very beautiful, intelligent, and articulate woman going in the water. Wow!
Dear Eli, that was a brilliant video and you are all so brave jumping into the freezing water, I couldn't do that it would give me a heart attack, but you make the video so jolly and entertaining and also informative on how people cope with extreme conditions.
Mind blowing. I believe that would kill me.
I know the feeling bc I live in SoCal where people get crazy if we have rain…, I miss real winter sometimes
bc I came from South Korea 50yrs ago…,
I live in In California's Central valley and I have the same exact complaint, far too few months of winter and even the months of winter we do get are much to mild. I spent almost all of my life growing up in New York and so coming out here is absolutely terrible for me
GO TO ROMANIA
Yeah I live in Ca and we don’t get a real winter ever! And people here complain when we get rain.
She saved a new calf from
A coyote waiting for it to freeze.
Come on, we all know we prefere tough ladies... "sweet" is overrated hehe@@Ришат-р3ч
South is cold as hell too
As someone who is currently living in the south of England where it snows about 5 days a year maximum I do get jealous of Canadian snow sometimes, but then I realise how lucky I am not having to deal with it
Where'd this occur? Keeping tabs on soul-crushing snowfalls within the country.
its great to see you and your friends having fun exploring such a warm culture in the snow
Awesome vídeo-production…well timed B-Roll footage…!!
Wonderful work, Eli! You are a true journalist! Thank you for sharing your talents with us here. Much appreciation from Alberta, Canada ❤
Live in new Jersey. If we get more than three inches of snow everything is closed. Transportation is at a stand still.😮 You are doing a good job Eli with your Russian adventures. I am learning a lot I never knew. Keep up the good work.😂
Just amazing. Молодцы девчёнки!
Really great, 🙏snow storm experience 👌👌👌
Wow, that is awesome! Great video
-Carey
You ladies made me smile 😃
Thank you for sharing.
I'm from the Philippines 🇵🇭
Thank you!
People are living their life to battle with the climate conditions in such areas
I was like there's no way people go into that water! Russians are tough tough tough strong people!
Ellie, loved your videos. You are a credit to your country and your family. With blessings antagh
So much fun and very interesting watching Eli and her friends!
I absolutely love ❤ this video. I lived like that in Alaska. On glaciers I would wash up in glacier water. Some places have cold pools that I've tried. Nothing compares to real life experiences. These people are fabulous in their videos. Bless you all.
Awesome vid. Thanks for bringing to life what we don't know about the Russian Arctic.
If I live there, I would definitely own and ride a snowmobile!!!
How fun!!!
From SoCal, USA 🙏🥰
In Canada, we don’t always see our neighbours as much as we should but when it snows, everyone comes outside to shovel and all of the kids play all at the same time.
Wow...very interesting and full of challenges👍👍👍
Love you Eli ❤️❤️
I live in Sask, Canada. During blizzards, everything stays open. Public transit, schools, shops, etc. Although, if it were to drop to -40°C or below, school busses will not run, for obvious reasons. But everything remains open.
Not like UK where one drop of snow , chaos ensure
More Vasily the reindeer herder please. A blizzard is normal weather for him. He is a really cool guy who can do special breathing for the cold. 🥶 👍
Wow Kola peninsula?! There is Murmansk port, wow, thansk for all videos
I like that you stay positive the world does not need any more negative stuff great work and thank you!!!!
Two beautiful women on an adventure. A great way to start the morning.
I live in Florida, haven't seen snow in 27 years. I could shovel sand but, I won't!! Great video, thanks to you and Alona.
Take a sand bath?
I live in Norway and have seen snow at least once.
such an amazing video!!
I am from Indonesia... I've never seen snow directly... Thanks for the vlog... Спасибо 💓🌍🇮🇩🇷🇺🙏
That icy water dip looks absolutely refreshing and pretty daunting. Keep up the good work👍
That was so familiar for me to watch, because this is ever so common in my town in Northern Ontario Canada. I love snow storms!! Our schools and stores still stay open too. We have much in common ❄️☃️❄️
Hello
Amazing. Such resilient fortitude in the Russian character built from accomplishing daily needs within super powerful inclement weather. Ice bathing looks like heaps of fun. A combined sauna/ice bath ritual would be the way to go for me.
I want to explore Murmansk.
Love traveling with you. Enjoy
