I loved your video, Sanna. My ancestors came from Finland and settled in northern Minnesota (USA) which reminded them of Finland. We still live by a lake and I love hearing the ice cracking and taking lovely winter walks on it too.
Same! All of my great-grandparents are from Finland and settled in northern MN. My kids are the 5th generation to be raised here. I love Sanna's videos for how much they are like home. We live between 2 lakes and the ice-making sounds are always so welcome. Winter can be harsh but it sure is magical.
The artistry and gorgeous scenery take my breath away, quite evocative, too.....lonely, spaceous, and just achingly beautiful. And it is all packed into 14 minutes! The sound of the cracking, booming water-sounds freezing on the lake was other-worldly. Thank you for sharing your magnificant world. Seasons Greetings from Germany. P.S. We, too, have the right of passage and very similar laws about private lands.
When my mother was a young girl in rural Iowa, USA, oranges were a special treat only for Christmas. Their stockings always held an orange, a “store bought fancy” apple, fancy nuts in the shell, and a candy cane. They thought they had received treasures in their stockings. Have a wonderful Christmas!
As a child, our stockings also held an orange and a popcorn ball. That's all I remember was in them. Maybe there was a candy cane. The orange was a treat we didn't see most of the year. Traditionally for St. Nicklaus Day, this is what we always got. We're in Wisconsin.
I love this reply! I am 64 years old and when I was a child in Los Angeles we did receive an orange and nuts in our stockings, but we were already of a new generation where we were able to eat oranges year-round, and candy itself was a very common thing, so the oranges and the nuts were ignored, but the candy was still eaten with glee! It’s so nice to read all the comments so that I understand better where these traditions came from. In little house on the prairie, in the book called these happy golden years, Almanzo returns to Laura in South Dakota from Minnesota bringing an orange for each person in her family at Christmas :)
Hello from Canada, it is dark most of the day where I live as well. We are lucky to get a clear day to see the pink sky from the sun. When my dad was a boy oranges were not a normal thing, or bananas. They were not often in the market and were only a special treat. My Grandparents came from Finland in the 30’s, thank you for sharing the landscape and your eye view with us ❤
Many blessings to you Sanna, such a beautiful, gentle and peaceful soul. Thank you for finding your heart's delight and for sharing it with us the world over. And generous! I cannot imagine the hours and hours you must spend editing video and drone footage to create one of these shows. Thank you.
I remember how my mother rationed the orange juice when I was a child. Bacon was rationed, too. When I grew up and finally had my own home and good enough wages, I ate as much bacon and drank as much orange juice as I wanted until they no longer seemed like delicacies! 😀
What a world-a world away from our pains and deep sorrows here in the US. You are blessed beyond measure. Thank you for the beautiful, soaring images of the country. That is where my heart feels the best. 💖🕯️
They're not totally a world away from our pains and sorrows; they've been ruled by Sweden and Russia in the past, and if Ukraine falls to Russia (dear God I pray not), who knows where Putin would set his sights next....Praying for us all! 🙏🙏🙏
Yeah, as a Finn I can say that it definitely isn’t a world away from pains and sorrows, since Russia is our neighbour. I’d rather live somewhere else right now.
Dear Sanna, thank you for sharing beauty and for reminding us that love and compassion make us happy, My wish for all beings is that we all find the causes for happines and be free from suffering. Love from the Netherlands.
Thank you as I wish you joy and blessings. My country, America is going through so many trials and I fear the next few years. I appreciate being your gentleness towards life as I strive for simplicity
I hate to repeat everyone else, but yes, this video is stunning. Thank you for sharing your beautiful homeland and your traditions with us. Merry Christmas Sanna from Connecticut, USA.
Sanna - Very Happy Christmas to both of you! I am grateful to you for all that you share of your life, home and surroundings. Wish you a very good year ahead!
You are so beautiful inside and out. What a beautiful life you and Esa have created. Thank you for sharing your peaceful life. I believe in giving more than you receive too.
Merry Christmas, Sanna! 🎄 I have just made my Christmas donations/gifts. This year I have donated a bale of hay to a drought-striken farmer in South Australia, and I have also donated enough money for a homeless person to be able to wash & dry their clothes at one of the Orange Sky vans here in Australia. Blessings to you & your wonderful fiance (& doggies). 🥰🌿💞🌈
Dear Sanna, both the music and scenery/footage at the start and end of this video is quite FANTASTIC! Gives a feeling of the VASTNESS of the nature around you. We used to go to Sweden every summer, before Covid, and played Swedish music for dancing. Spent some winter time there too. But have not been able to get there since 2019 (from England, via Rotterdam). Your videos in some way make up for what we are missing. Bless you, and everything you are doing! Great you've got a bit of forest all of your own now! Yeah! ❤❤❤❤
It's odd how water expands as it freezes, rather than shrinking.I love listening to a lake or pond as it freezes.I also love seeing the joy in your face as you decorate your home.Thank you for bringing this joy into our lives!
Merry Christmas from the prairie of Saskatchewan, Canada. We have an abundance of snow this winter, but I love to be outside when it snows. Your channel is so artfully produced; beautiful imagery and music, and I love your approach to life and nature, living each moment with appreciation, love and joy. May 2025 be a stellar year. Namaste
Thank you for this wonderful personal video! As an old Finland fan I wish you Hyvää Joulua ja onnellista uutta vuotta. Stay healthy and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere around you. Lämpimät terveiset Saksasta!
Thank you, Sanna, for creating this channel and your wonderful content. You present the Finnish nature and culture so beautifully. My mother is Finnish, but she never spoke Finnish or introduced me to the culture. It's almost as if she was embarrassed about it, which I cannot understand. Your knife reminded me of one my great-uncle in Rovaniemi made for my father decades ago!
Us Finns have always been told we are inferior. The Swedes, who often ruled over us, historically thought of us being lower humans than them. In the US, Finns were associated with POC and Natives; some people denied them entry to various places. The rye bread the Finns baked was darker than the wheat one US kids ate, so Finnish kids were teased about it: "Did your mom bake the bread from dirt on the floor??"
I love the description of snow's purpose being that of protecting the ground from the harsh wind. An understanding of nature that I hadn't, before now, even considered. Thank you.
I thoroughly enjoy your videos, I sit and knit while watching. Your red sweater is beautiful a work of art. Merry Christmas from Quesnel BC Canada. Our Christmas is quiet and not flashy either.
I just found your channel and i am amazed by your person and videos. I am so inspired by your gentle nature und the peace and qiet, the nature and art. In Austria i often suffer in winter, your winter is so much more brutal and this helps me to see the beauty und peace in it :) thank you for sharing.
Northern lights and images of the frozen lake are stunning! So ma many thanks to you for these precious moments and images of the North. I wish you a very happy and full of joy end of this year!
Gorgeous photography! Thank you for the lovely message at the end, being thankful for that which we have and grateful for the gifts from the Universe 🌹🌹🎄👍
Thank you for sharing your beautiful land and your forest. I think we should all have a little forest in our lives. Your hubby did a great job with the outdoor lights! Wishing you and your loved ones a Happy Christmas. 🎄
Hi Sanna, absolutely masterpiece 🎉 I so much love your style. Your house looks wonderful with all the lights and I'm happy you own now a piece of fairy forest. Much love and light from Mallorca. 🎉❤
Merry Christmas from the east coast of Canada where the days are also short and the temperature fluctuates from frosty cold to mild rain. Such a beautiful dog !
Your house is so beautiful and bright in the dark old night, Sanna. You are blessed to own a forest, no matter what size it is. It will be very pretty and smells fresh to decorate your cozy warm inviting little house with natural materials/tree branches. Love your videos, pictures, songs and everything. So happy to find your RUclips. Merry Christmas and God bless you and your family more in 2025! 🙏❤
Just a gorgeous video, Saana. I have watched all of your vlog entries but this is the first one I’ve commented on. Your depiction of winter in Northern Finland is exquisite. My great great grandparents emigrated to the USA from northern Norway. Maybe that’s why I’m so interested in Nordic winters. I would like to experience one, but only for a little while! I’m so happy you have your own little piece of forest. It’s especially nice you can cut your own greens for Christmas decorating. Thanks again for a beautiful video. Warmest Christmas wishes to you and yours.
Such a beautiful video. ❤ Thank you. When I was a child we always only had an orange, a dime, and a peppermint stick. I never understood until my grandfather explained that is what they did in Viitasaari Finland where he came from.
It's been a while since we've had much snow, just a few flakes. Your whole winter atmosphere is romantic and very picturesque, with lots of magical shapes and shades. I love it (and the cute dogs) and I stare at those many stars in the sky. It's a real fairy tale. I'm agree with your Christmas decoration tips, nature gives the most beautiful ornaments...
According to your Finnish traditions, what color clothes does Saint Nicholas really wear? After all, he lives at you in Lappland, right?.... It is an eternal debate whether it is green and white or red and white. According to those who support the first version, this is only because of the American soft drink advertisement. 😕 We Hungarians believe the latter, since the bishop's robe he wore was red and we call him "Mikulás"💖
Your videography is breathtaking and the music so soothing Sanna. Thank you for sharing such a beautiful place in Finland and bringing it to life to the world. Merry Christmas from Western Colorado!
Oh how I loved this one Sanna! Such breathtaking beauty you share and get to experience over winter ( though tough at times of course I imagine!) I just adore your lovely words and the gratitude and positivity that you share. Every video warms my heart - thank you so much for using this platform for something so true and good xxx Love from New Zealand
Landscape is so calm and beautiful, love the singing the ice makes. The oranges made me think of my dads stories from when he grew up in Helsinki during the war, his first taste of an orange came by a care package from the salvation army. Toivottavasti sinulla oli ihana joulu, ja hyvää jatkoa
I yearn to move to Finland in the last years of my life, I do not know why. It’s just a feeling within me. I find peace in your posts. Thank you Saana.
I'm so happy I came across your magical channel just before I start to celebrate Christmas with my dearest ones! You are soooooo sweet and talented. MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU FROM ARGENTINA!
Merry Christmas from Northern Ontario Canada! I cannot stop looking at your beautiful sweater you are wearing...as an avid knitter I would love to know the name of the pattern ....it is stunning! First time viewer here and I really love your content..stay warm! :)
Merry Christmas to you both,Sanna. I cannot imagine seeing the sky with so many stars and seeing the Northern Lights - how utterly beautiful. Peace for the Season - from, PD in the UK XXXX
What a stunning video Sanna 🎄❤️ so interesting to lean of Finland and your rivers amazing. Such lovely filming xx I hope your Christmas is everything you wish it to be my dear
A beautiful land and a beautiful life you are making for yourself. Thank you for sharing with us. I have learned so much already about your beautiful country. xo
Luv decorating with natural elements! Bringing nature inside when you can't be outside just brings a sense of calm. I enjoy decorating with pine cones and dried oranges and leftover pumpkins from autumn.
You make the most beautiful videos of the land with lovely music and heart felt wishes for human goodness. Thank you! Wishing you a happy holiday season 💖
Stunning, Sanna! I'm new to your channel. I've just been watching for a week or so, and this was just breathtaking. Here at 38 degrees latitude, I love the short days of winter and how they inspire me to get out in the sun while it's up. I can hardly imagine what that must be like at 60+degrees latitude. I am weaving kitchen towels on my table loom as I watch this, before heading out on a solstice camping trip into the dark and cold. I love getting to experience the fullness of this season in that way. There will be long nights snuggled up in my sleeping bag; it's a time to catch up on sleep. I have muffins made and packed away for easy breakfasts without having to expose fragile fingers to the cold. Midday will be when we pull out the campstove to cook. Winter blessings to you and yours! xoxo
Sanna, thank you so much for sharing with me (us), your life-story, chosen northern Finnish home, your life-partner, friends, beautiful dog family, new parcel of land with trees, the northern lights and moon in winter, your stunningly beautiful knitting, baking, fish-stories, gardening harvesting in summer, the home lake freezing and singing to us, learning, growing your filming, writing, editing, and choices of musical accompaniments. I know there is more, and I do understand from my good heart to yours, and everyone on your channel, the natural choice (and hard work) in life-style you have chosen in support of your sensitivity's and the real need for merging into nature, for that is who we are. Thank you, magical Sanna, from N. America, Pacific Northwest High Mountain Desert. Land of the Cascade Lakes Wilderness. Sadly, we are now...populated with more people, less solitude, in ways I could never have imagined, fifty years ago arriving from the city. Alas, the inner-self still thrives knowing it can settle into inner silence, stillness, and know peace. May you continue to thrive in your 25 person township and revel in open vast spaces through the ten thousand joys, the ten thousand sorrows we meet on our life journey. I so appreciate your generosity. Gratefully and with love, V
Thank you for sharing with us, your beautiful home, and congrats on your own little forest, I always enjoy your Finnish Blogs, I can't wait to visit again next year for the Autumn season
I absolutely love watching you in your beautiful home ❤ It is so therapeutic and really connects with me. It is my dream one day to live more in nature and you are an inspiration to me ❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you, you two look happy in the midst of the darkest time of the year. But we are now on the other side of that with a little more light each day. Love from northern Canada
Merry Christmas/Happy Holiday from Cincinnati, OHIO. America has so much to learn from Finland and the Nordic countries. I hope your videos (and other contributors from Nordic countries) go viral on youtube. America has become a very sick country. Please for those who watch, look for more of this lifestyle on youtube and share, lets change our sick culture.
Your videos are so peaceful to watch - thank you. I like the moss in between the window panes :) I liked your message at the end, too. Christmas blessings to you and your family.
Sanna I too so enjoy your videos, my Grandparents came from Finland to Minnesota, I was to young to hear of the story's of there from them before their passing, I do know of the lake they took the row boat across to go to church, I have photos of that very spot. Of course in the winter sled or skis. You were placed where the Lord wanted you. Merry Christmas. I was given with love, hand spun, hand knitted Finnish wool mittens that she my cousin hand dyed from her own willows cut from the backyard then she sent this year from there. The lights on the house and stars in the windows look fabulous reminding us of the words spoken from the One "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."❤ Joy to the world. Happy New Year.
I loved your video, Sanna. My ancestors came from Finland and settled in northern Minnesota (USA) which reminded them of Finland. We still live by a lake and I love hearing the ice cracking and taking lovely winter walks on it too.

The same in Poland in times of comunism. Still for me the taste and smell of orange means Christmas to me.

@turpasauna That must have been terrible for a child, while everyone in the world is equally human being.

The cracking ice had me a little worried for you and the wolverines, yet how spectacular this all is!

Thank you, you two look happy in the midst of the darkest time of the year. But we are now on the other side of that with a little more light each day. Love from northern Canada
So beautiful and peaceful and I love the forest laws and yeah the sound of ice! Your life feels so unreal. Merry upcoming Christmas.
Merry christmas🎄Sanna from Germany,i love to watch your videos every time,in Germany we don‘t have winter for a long time, that‘s really sad.

Your videos are so peaceful to watch - thank you. I like the moss in between the window panes :) I liked your message at the end, too. Christmas blessings to you and your family.
Magical place
Thank you very much for this cozy and festive video. ❤
God bless you 🙏
Sanna I too so enjoy your videos, my Grandparents came from Finland to Minnesota, I was to young to hear of the story's of there from them before their passing, I do know of the lake they took the row boat across to go to church, I have photos of that very spot.
