    Nice! Neat, orderly and professional looking. I’m going to save your video and do this on my Honda Ridgeline. Great video and super creativity…

      Thank you for taking the time to post your great feedback, I hope you enjoy the heck out of your Ridgeline, when my son was very young he called them "Ridge Lions", which I thought was very cool.

    Great idea! Mine come loose every now and then (which after 8 years becomes very annoying). I'll definitely be doing this!

    I've got a similar problem with my ReTrax. My problem is in reverse in that they equipped it with plastic hose fittings (bottom of canister) and they break anytime anything touches them. I'm going to put the 90 degree fitting in the bottom of the cover. I had come up with a similar plan and you saved me the time of figuring out what parts would work. Thank you!!!!

    Thanks for taking the time to leave nice feedback. Maybe someday this or something like it will be standard with new bakflip products.

    No need for clamps, it didn't leak, congrats on your purchase BTW, you're going to love your new cover.

    GREAT IDEA... I have a BAKFLIP FIBERMAX ordered for my 2013 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad Cab. It SHOULD be here within the next day or so. I believe I am going to duplicate your project. THANKS for sharing it...

    Just ordered this and I'm curious, why not just add a small reduced diameter piece of tubing (similar to that from bakflip) and run that out the 1/2 inch hole which is about 6 inches away from start of your tube attachment? That shouldn't require messing with the truck knockouts and should provide a better look and use. Has anyone tried that?

    I know this is an older video, but I thought I'd add that this modification is really the better option. However, I load my truck with heavy stuff like scaffolding and such. When this stuff hits the elbow it breaks. My solution is to get a metal 2x4 stud at lowes/home depot and cut a length for each side to cover the elbow. I sprayed each length with spray on bed liner in a rattle can. I mounted the covers I made with some roofing adhesive. When the adhesive dried I sprayed some expanding foam inside the void of the covers to add strength. Now when they get hit, nothing happens. Hope this helps.

    Thanks for your comment, I really didn't like the drain tube setup, I love the BakFlip product though.

    nice clean install mod i like it good job ! , im getting the G2 soon and was looking for ideas . i think i would do what you did to the drain tubes but maybe add another fitting to the back side with another elbow facing down and hose clamp another piece of hose that ends lower under the frame to avoid water running on the body for rust prevention .
    i would have to take a look and see , it may be fine like that ? have you watched how yours drains ? does it run off on the bed or drip right down to the ground im curious?
    good idea though !

    Nice mod, what can people do if they have a drop in bed liner with no holes?

    Another option is ruining it into the stake Pocket on the side of the truck where there is already a hole on the side of the bed.

    Do you recommend this product? I saw pics of people jumping on it to break in, do you think it can hold up to someone jumping on it with all that pressure at one point? Also, what connects the slats? Is it rubber that holds the slats together? Can someone just use a razorblade to cut the slats past the lock then push it open? I Don't wanna spend over a grand on something that can be broken into easily 🤔

    Outstanding and simple mod. Love it. The only improvement I would make is worm drive hose clamps. Seemed like the hose went on kind of loose around the fitting. That being said, how watertight is that cover in general, in your experience?

    • @AutoDIY
      @AutoDIY  10 лет назад

      Clamps would be a good addition and it would still be under 3 bucks :>. The BakFlip has been great, very water tight, I have a bed rug under it now and it's always dry.

    Does the tube fit tight on the fittings? Just want to make sure there is no other access water coming out of the tube.

    • @AutoDIY
      @AutoDIY  9 лет назад

      Fishing is my hobby Yes it fits tight, but if you are at all concerned you can add some worm gear hose clamps to ensure a completely water tight fit. Thanks for your comment, and thanks for watching.

    great idea and great video. how do you like that cover? Does water still get into the bed even though you have those drains?

    • @AutoDIY
      @AutoDIY  8 лет назад +1

      +Bart I still love this cover, it keeps the bed very clean and dry. Great in the snow too, and it is a little security from folks walking off with objects in the bed. It has also kept jerks from using it as their dumpster tossing trash in as they walk by. Thanks for watching and posting positive feedback, you are appreciated.

    Nice job! Do you still like the cover and is it holding up so far?

    • @AutoDIY
      @AutoDIY  7 лет назад +3

      Love the cover and it is holding up well, there are some minor signs of wear on the rubber hinges and the seal at the tailgate, but it still functions well, and works the same as it did on day 1. I was concerned about the panels fading over time, but I have not noticed any fading so far. Very happy with it.

    I have the same year..what part # did u go with for the f1? Any reason u chose f1 over he g2? Thanks for vid!

    • @AutoDIY
      @AutoDIY  9 лет назад +1

      Q CHIMBA Hi and thanks taking the time to comment, the part number is 72409, or 72409T (if you have the Track system/cargo rails). This is for the crewmax tundra with the short bed, they have other sizes/part numbers for the long bed and extended cab models. I went with the F1 because of the stronger materials they use to make it. The G2 is a great product, but the focus was keeping the price down so they used powder coated aluminum inside and out. Not a bad choice, and it does save you a couple hundred dollars. The F1 does use the same powder coated aluminum on the inside, but the outside is a fiber reinforced polymer. This matters because the powder coated aluminum has a tendency to dent, and scratch. I have managed to dent the interior of my F1 in a few places by closing it on items that were a little too tall which put a nice indentation on the aluminum. But the exterior simply doesn't dent, it is incredibly strong, scratches don't show on it because the color is mixed into the material. I am happy I spent a little more for the F1, because it still looks as good as the day I installed it. Both the G2 and F1 are great products though, you can't go wrong. They are easy to fold up, increase your MPG when you can lay them flat, they do a nice job of securing your truck bed, but they don't force you to give up your bed access to do it. A simple design that works really well.

      Auto DIY yeah im shopping around now for the best price....i have the shorter bed also since it's a crewmax, but which track system are u talking about? Do u mean the one inside the truck with the adjustable tie downs? That's what i have

    • @AutoDIY
      @AutoDIY  9 лет назад

      Q CHIMBA Yes, the adjustable tie downs under your bed rail, if you want to keep those, you need the part number 72409T which includes a bracket to relocate the track the tie downs are mounted in.

      But I only have 3 dollars, just kidding, I actually added a bed rug to hide my beat up bed. Now I have a beat up bed rug ;) Actually it has held up great.
