Love the Jonah Thompson flute, it was my first flute that I got for my collection. I ordered it with a eagle block. Definitely one I'd recommended for someone starting.
I picked up my first flute, a Jonah Thompson, at a Navajo souvenir shop in New Mexico. I’m a truck driver and was looking for a better way to spend my down time. One of the best purchases I ever made. Thanks for all you do.
@@Haggis.unfortunately no. I lost all of my Butch Hall flutes in a house fire last year. Finding it difficult to replace them. I’m might pick it up again one day 😊
I like how you're a expert at native american flutes; I been confused which one I wanted to start out with thank you so much! Now I know where I want to begin
I just got my First Hawk from High Spirits at a Cherokee flute shop in the beautiful blue ridge smokies. I started this journey by 3D printing my first native flute. Although it had some great deep sound, nothing compares to wood, so I had to get it as my starter flute. That spanish cedar is gorgeous!
Thanks Jonny. I have two of the three in my collection and LOVE my little ABS Northern Sprits flute. best described simply as a "fun" flute. I take it on my sailboat and even often play it at home just because it has that happy sound. The third one you showed..... not so much. perhaps I just got a fluke bad one, but I was very disappointed in that one. it had huge chips in the wood around the sound hole that kept the bird from sealing properly. I repaired that part myself, but was still disappointed in the overall sound quality. these days I make all of my own flutes, but I still enjoy seeing what's out there, and certainly enjoy your playing. great job!
Thanks for sharing Jonny, I’m getting my daughter one of the Northern Spirits. It will be her first flute and a Birthday present as well. Have a wonderful 🤍🙏
@@micahflips1928 Not this one. I tried to “fix it” before I knew much about flute making and made it worse. Some day I’ll circle back to it and make it sound good again.
I don't know how many people realized it, when you said "...bamboo or wood..." that bamboo is not in fact wood, but grass. BTW - I've the Butch Hall in "A", and a beautiful custom-made "Two Feathers" (Darrell Allen) bamboo flute in F#. Did I miss a "Two Feathers" review??
Absolutely! Thank you for that distinction between wood and bamboo! Although I did not bring that up, I do think most people realize that bamboo is distinctively different indeed. I don’t believe I have a Two Feathers flute in my collection at this time. So many flutes, I will double check that!
We are in the final stages of preproduction and will have them available on our website (www.horizonsflutestore.com) very soon. They will be a modular design that will either stand or hang. And more sections can be added, making them as tall as you want them to be. Give us a couple more weeks and we should have them online.
Hey I just wanted to ask if anyone knows how to get a Northern Spirits KIT FORM flute in the United States without having to pay absurd shipping costs... thanks!
I've been wading through your videos trying to find the review for the flute that had a flat top around the holes. Can't remember the name of it, but you said a lot of beginners like them because the holes are easier to find.
I see 2 different Northern Spirit flutes on Rich Dubé's website that look like the one you talk about and play in this video. Can you please tell me which one it is? 1) Original Mid A Northern Spirit Flute Contemporary Minor Pentatonic 2) Indigenous Style A Diatonic Northern Spirit Flute
First one, Jerry. I don’t generally recommend a diatonic tuned flute for beginners. The more common minor pentatonic scale is a better place to start. Thanks for asking!
Oh? So far the F# is my favorite sounding flute but I'm scared the pull the trigger on it because it would be my first flute and I have no idea if my hands would fit it or if I would have challenges learning it. Which one did you get if you don't mind me asking.
@@ashleygilliam1214 I personally don’t find the F# challenging for me to reach the notes at all. I don’t know about others because everyone has different size hands, but my hands are probably a little on the smaller side and I don’t have any trouble. It’s still a higher pitched flute but still lower out of the other beginner flutes I’ve come across. I got mine from Stellar Flutes. They are amazing! You can order it from their website… they are also very well priced.
I am noticing that a lot of the mid-range flutes (keys of F#, G, or A) are in the $100-200 ranges. What it the key of the Jonah Thompson flute that you're playing in the video? Thanks!
Well, Francis, you have your first flute, but many players end up acquiring a collection of various keys and different woods over time. You will know when you are ready for another one. Flute on!
I have a Jonah Thompson flute as my first flute. I've heard different things about Jonah Thompson, is this a living person that actually makes these flutes himself or are these flutes made in China???

Very cool! Thanks for tuning in and enjoy both your journeys, both over the road and fluting, Robert!
Are you still playing ?

When I heard the JT flute sounds I got shivers. I’ll take it as a sign. Thanks for this video.
Perhaps it was.

The Jonah Thompson turtle flute was my first flute and I still got it. I don’t play it anymore though because of how airy it is.
Airy can be really fun sometimes. I’m guessing it is also fairly loud?

That may have been the Ancient Territories flute, as it has a bit of a triangular shape, which creates a flattened top for the finger holes.

are the flutes in 432hz and minor or dorian? I‘m looking for a flute I can male samples with for beats

I got F# as my first flute. It is slightly lower sounding than the other flutes and still not challenging for me to reach all the notes.
