Jim's Group is the largest franchise (by numbers) in the southern hemisphere. It has more than 3,800 franchise owners who are all local experts in their chosen service.
Jim Penman started a part-time gardening business while earning his PhD in history at Latrobe University. He launched a full-time mowing business in 1982 with a $24 investment.
He initially aimed only at taking on subcontractors, but his business grew, and he gradually began to specialise in the building up and selling of lawn mowing rounds. By 1989 he franchised his business, and since then Jim’s Mowing has become the largest franchise chain in Australian and the most abundant and best-known lawn mowing business in the world.
Jim’s Cleaning was launched in 1994, followed by more than 50 other divisions which now operate in Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the United Kingdom. Jim’s Group now has over 3,800 Franchisees and a turnover of approximately $500 million.
    Jim says
“The key to success in franchising is an overriding concern for the welfare of franchisees, and constant improvement in customer service.”
He is still actively involved in the running of the business, is directly accessible to all his Franchisees and any client with a serious complaint.
He is funding a research program into the epigenetics of social behaviour, a continuation of his PhD work, which he believes could help in the treatment of mental illness and addictive disorders.

Great content mate, I mow lawns full time but am self employed, 2 years now and I have 60 clients, before I started I was going to start with Jim's Mowing but the fee was around $35,000 NZ dollars which I didn't have so I bought 2nd hand gear, mower, weedeater and a blower at first. I started with my neighbors around me and then put billboards up at the local supermarkets and then on FB marketplace which within I had over 50 clients in 3 months and over time built to more in which was great but some clients were just temporary which was good but what I did is filtered out the highest paid and which was closer to where I'm situated. Over the 2 years I've now got a friend working with me, new work gear and I'm only working around 35 to 40 hours a week which gives me time for my family, friends and myself. But great info you have given me and hope to move up a notch on work duties. Anyways great work what you are doing and certainly a key gardener. Cheers mate.

The main thing apart from advertising is keeping what customers you do got happy... yea the internet is a great thing but nothing on earth beats WORD OF MOUTH when ppl talk about you and how good of a job you do everytime for them that's what gets you growing alot.. Jim and Andrews and all of those guys got so huge from literally word of mouth.. doing a great job everytime and keeping people happy goes a very long way.. because they talk about ya to their mates or family and that reputation held u got with ya customers is the only thing that's gonna bring em back everytime..that's how Jimmy got his bizo to what it is today.. nothing beats a happy customer

Very good informative video. I'm seriously considering a Jims franchise as I'm at that stage in life where I'm just fed up with being with what I've been doing for the last 20+ years. It looks like a great low stress and relatively easy job with the backing of a household name, there's not much not to like about that.

It’s not an easy job. Definitely not stressful but it’s hard work mate. I have my own “Mozza’s mowing”. I Didn’t buy a franchise. 1st year was hard building up customer base but after that it’s great. I have about 80 regulars and works like clockwork. I would not buy a franchise because once you are set up with your customers you will still be paying $500 plus a month to a franchise who you don’t really need. Good luck

Thank you for making and posting this video. It was fantastic! Unfortunately, there is not a Jim's franchisee possibility in my area as we have a very short growing season on the very east coast of Canada and Jims is only on the west coast at the moment so I have to start up with my own brand. I love everything I've read and watched on the Jim's brand!

I’m a independent guy working out of a doggy Ute but it’s only because I’m 22 with 2 kids I would like to join Jim’s but unfortunately I can’t afford it I got a call asking to do a quote she said that she’s been getting it done fortnightly by Jim’s but she said it’s getting to expensive so I told her I’m sorry but I can’t do it because I look up to Jim’s blokes but I do get offended when people think I’m out just for the hell of it

Have you spoken to the local regional franchisor? There are options for you and if you have your equipment already, you are halfway there. Yes, some customers expect you to work for a very low-rate unfortunately. Please have a chat with the local franchisor by calling 131 546 to see if they can help. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment.
