Jim's Group is the largest franchise (by numbers) in the southern hemisphere. It has more than 3,800 franchise owners who are all local experts in their chosen service.
Jim Penman started a part-time gardening business while earning his PhD in history at Latrobe University. He launched a full-time mowing business in 1982 with a $24 investment.
He initially aimed only at taking on subcontractors, but his business grew, and he gradually began to specialise in the building up and selling of lawn mowing rounds. By 1989 he franchised his business, and since then Jim’s Mowing has become the largest franchise chain in Australian and the most abundant and best-known lawn mowing business in the world.
Jim’s Cleaning was launched in 1994, followed by more than 50 other divisions which now operate in Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the United Kingdom. Jim’s Group now has over 3,800 Franchisees and a turnover of approximately $500 million.
Jim says
“The key to success in franchising is an overriding concern for the welfare of franchisees, and constant improvement in customer service.”
He is still actively involved in the running of the business, is directly accessible to all his Franchisees and any client with a serious complaint.
He is funding a research program into the epigenetics of social behaviour, a continuation of his PhD work, which he believes could help in the treatment of mental illness and addictive disorders.
Thanks for sharing this session - Des is awesome.
I think clarification is needed regarding what was said about buffalo and MCPA from around the 44:00 minute mark.
MCPA is SAFE on all buffalo lawns. In fact the herbicide named in the video that is supposed to be safe on all types of lawn has MCPA @300g/L (Potassium salt) as one if it’s active constituents while the other main broadleaf used in Aus. which is marketed specific to buffalo lawns has MCPA @ 200g/L present as ethyl hexyl ester in it.
MCPA, bromoxynil, diflufenican, and clopyralid are SAFE for buffalo lawns.
Dicamba is NOT safe for use on buffalo lawns.
Forgot to say, everything else on this video is spot on and this is a excellent video. Thanks.
Wow, such great knowledge! We will let Des know.
Came to comment on this exactly. Dicamba is the active not to use of buffalo.
Great video👍
Great video and sharing of Des's knowledge. Is there a Part 2 of this lecture ?
No, there isn't. You would have to come to training to do the 3 days.
@@JimsGroup can you attend the training if you haven't purchased a franchise ?
@@darinshipp6607 No, it's for franchisees only, however, we do have some good lectures on our channel. If you do want to be a franchisee though, you can enquire and there isn't an obligation to sign until you pass training.
Excellent video
Why am I here?
I did learn what type of grass I have though..😁
Learning from one of the best horticulturists in the game.
