5:20 - I've once heard someone saying that Holly Black writes faeries from folklore and SJM writes faeries from fantasy, and, from what I've seen of the fanarts of her works, that might be true, so that description doesn't really say much.
If you love a forest setting, I think you should give the Sevenwaters series a try! The first book Daughter of the Forest was probably my favorite read of 2024. I think about it all the time. It was recommended to me as fantasy romance, but I would definitely classify it as historical fantasy. There is a romance, but it's not at all the main focus of the story. (Trigger warning for a pretty graphic SA scene in the first half of the book.)
I didn't expect to see a mention of this book. 😊 My sis talked me into reading it last year. Good book, very beautiful prose. I think some people just need to be prepared for a slower-paced writing style, but definitely worth it. The author paints such vivid images with their writing.
I had an advanced copy of Greenteeth and loved it! It was cozy but medium stakes and I had so much fun with all the characters on the quests. I already pre-ordered a physical copy.
Thank you Elliot! I just put a hold for Green Teeth on my library app. Was surprised that Grave Empire was not purchased yet. 😥. Love the sleepy Luna pic! So cute!!!
I picked up Faebound this week to try and catch up prior to Cursebound. I'm not really one for "oooh, gorgeous Fae" so I was so so hesitant but basically my husband picked it up for me off the shelf so I felt obliged. I'm nearly halfway through already and it's honestly surprised me SO much! The synopsis on the back doesn't do a great job of selling the book either. But there's great world building, intrigue, politics, creatures, and the plot moves along well, good characters. Honestly having a great time with it (so far)!
Agreed on fantasy romance being marketed as fantasy and vice versa. That can actually be a little bit annoying. Solid picks here though. Looking forward to reading some of these!
Those are kinda my favorite videos, highlighting new book releases is always more interesting to me than talking about (especially the well-known) books for the umpteenth time.
Also want to add a few other books that might be of interest, I'm especially exited about A Drop of Corruption, part 2 of the Shadow of the Leviathan duology: 04.02. Nnedi Okorafor - One-Way Witch 04.02. Stephen R. Lawhead - Aurelia 06.02. Kim Curran - The Morrigan 11.02. Kel Kade - Sanctum of the Soul 13.02. David Hair - The Drowning Sea 18.02. Robert Jackson Bennett - A Drop of Corruption 20.02. Christopher Fowler - The Foot on the Crown 25.02. Samantha Shannon - The Dark Mirror 25.02. T. Kingfisher - Swordheart 25.02. JL Odom - A Haunt for Jackals 27.02. Gourav Mohanty - Dance of Shadows 27.02. Amélie Wen Zhao - The Scorpion and the Night Blossom
All of these sound better than what these book boxes have picked! Owl crate is going with “the Wooing of the Witch Queen” which makes me shutter just looking at the cover and reading the title. If they have to pick Fantasy Romance, the forest king’s daughter sounds so much better! I am most intrigued by the timekeepers and if I could pick one that’s the one I would pick
The Timekeepers and Green Teeth sound interesting! I still have to check out the second Emily Wilde book. I don't usually track books before release but one that looks interesting is called Spells, Strings, and Forgotten Things by Breanne Randall. It's expected to release March 4.
Any recommendations for a fantasy series similar to that of Dune or the Remembrance of Earth's Past trilogy? I'm a heavy sci-fi reader trying to branch out a bit more this year
Jade City trilogy by Fonda Lee or perhaps Malazan Book of the Fallen by Steven Erikson. I lean more towards SF than fantasy and love both these series. 😊
Thank you for this info. Lovely! I used to be a huge reader but as I get older I'm suddenly very picky. I miss being lost in a fantasy book. They publish so much really bad fantasy these days...
Opening my Goodreads TBR list and taking notes… 😂 Grave Empire and The Forest King’s Daughter sound really interesting! Also very excited for the new Emily Wilde book!
If there’s one book I think everyone should read this year, it’s keezano’s Your Life Your Game. It beautifully shows how connecting with God and building meaningful relationships can lead to spiritual growth, and success in both your personal and professional life. This book truly changed my life…a must-read.
You are wrong. It is not. I am friends with the author, and it is original artwork created by artist Miroslav Dimitrov, who worked incredibly hard on drawing and creating this book cover. It took him four months to create the final product. This is incredibly offensive and rude to do.
@@JenneeKrell I mean the author is using a bunch of AI images to promote their book on IG so... If the cover isn't AI, great! I just pointed out that it looked like it (some parts do, others look like standard photo manipulation)
Why get on here and accuse an author with no valid proof about her book cover? Her artist did every illustration in her book and drew it all, and used no standard photos. It's his own work. I see you are a book cover designer, so how can you not tell when something is an original artwork? Why try to hurt an author and artist when you have no clue about how the book cover was created?
@ Me being an artist and cover designer myself is precisly why I can see that the art she uses to promote on IG is AI. If you say the cover isn't AI, though, then I think that's great! I didn't mean to hurt the author, I simply meant to voice my concerns and urge people to look into it before blindly supporting. I never said the cover was AI, I said it looked like it. I apologize for upsetting you. And hold on I just realized you said Miroslav Dimitrov. Are you saying she managed to hire THE Miroslav Dimitrov for her cover?

She has a new book coming out at the end of feb as well, different world though
Daughter of the Forest is such a beautiful and heartbreaking book.
Thanks to your recommendations I am currently reading The Justice of Kings. I am really enjoying this story & am looking forward to Grave Empire!
Can’t wait for Emily Wilde’s release. Thanks for great recommendations.
I love these anticipated release videos! I want to keep up with new releases more.
The forest Kings daughter and Emily Wilde’s third book so excited! 🎉🎊📙📙📙🎊📖🎉🎊🎆🎆🎆📚🎇🎉📙📙📙📙📖🎉📙🎊📚📚📚📚🎆🎆📚🎇🎇🎇🎊📙📙
I had an advanced copy of Greenteeth and loved it! It was cozy but medium stakes and I had so much fun with all the characters on the quests. I already pre-ordered a physical copy.
Greenteeth sounds like its right up my alley.
Grave Empire and Greenteeth were both absolutely incredible
These videos are very helpful (not for my purse or the unending tbr) but thanks 🥰
Thank you Elliot! I just put a hold for Green Teeth on my library app. Was surprised that Grave Empire was not purchased yet. 😥. Love the sleepy Luna pic! So cute!!!
Definitely gonna check out Richard Swan after your video. Thanks for that!
Oh my goat I beta read the timekeepers! I’m so excited to see it featured in one of your videos!

I wanna read the forest kings daughter because I read Frostblood by the same author and loved it.
Last days of good people sounds so good and I haven’t heard of it before, gladly adding it to my TBR
The Last Days of Good People sounds amazing - and gave me a bunch of Star Trek vibes!
Green teeth sounds very interesting. I’m intrigued.
Couldn't agree more about the audio book for Emily Wildes adding to the story!
I’m tired of fae. Taking a break from those books for a bit.
I know that feeling as well. 😊
Please could you mention which books have audio versions for your recs? Thank you :) 💞

DA with demons........I’m so here for this book. I’ll be interested to hear your thoughts on all of these books. 🖤📚🖤

R Scott Baker the Prince of Nothing or Ken Liu grace of kings
Grave empire sounds really interesting!
All of these sound like they could be good reads, specially the last 2
I heavily suggest checking out THE BLACKGUARD by Autumn E. Knight. It might be my favorite book right now.
Is Ambessa's upcoming novel by C. L. Clark on your radar?
Grave Empire sounds fun
Emily Wilde fans rise
Thank you for this info. Lovely! I used to be a huge reader but as I get older I'm suddenly very picky. I miss being lost in a fantasy book. They publish so much really bad fantasy these days...
My goodness, the state of Fantasy in traditional publishing is terrible. Thankfully, Independent authors are filling the massive fissure
I like fantasy but is there similar chanel for fiction(star wars) and sci-fi(star trek)???
Jessie Gender
Any retold fairy tales comijg up?
I'm looking forward too, Rebel Witch. The second book in the Crismon Moth/Heartless Hunter is come out 2/18.

Just wanted to chime in to say that the Timekeepers looks veryyyyy much like an ai generated cover.

Yet again, almost all of these are a female protagonist. Fantasy is drowning in teenage girl chosen ones.
