The stiffness of the FF Blast Max foam varies significantly with temperature. In warmer conditions, the foam feels extremely soft and mushy, almost like a marshmallow. However, in cold temperatures, it firms up considerably, becoming more bouncy and responsive. The difference is so pronounced that it feels like wearing a completely different shoe depending on the temperature.
@iCuteJP very interesting- i definitely believe that after my experience in the NB3- would explain why I find it so soft and Americans find it "firmer"
Finding your channel late 2024 was a great thing. I love your delivery. It also helps that alot of the shoes that work for you, work for me. And the same with the things you don't like. I live in regional NSW and trying shoes in store is a pipe dream, so it's great having a go-to reviewer on a blind buy that you feel confident in.
Agree with everything u say I have the superblast 2 just won't compare with it, had the 3 and 4 haven't tried the 5 but have felt the softness.not a shoe I need and would recommend, just dosent do enough for the bucks... Personally a daily these days needs to do it all, hence why I have superblast and sl2.i think daily trainers that are one dimensional are pointless and no value for money. 😊
I completely agree with your review. I actually sold my pair of NB5, and bought a new pair of the NB4TR on sale. For me a much more enjoyable shoe, with very good grip for the wet European winters (the Netherlands). 👍🏾
Yes, you totally reflected my own thoughts on the Novablast 5. It's less dense, less bouncy and more of a slow plodding shoe now. Probably a less soft version of the 1080v13. I am surprised how variable some reviews have been saying quite the opposite. Its left me scratching my head after running in it. Perhaps they bought into the marketing a bit too much? You really nailed it with your review. Nearly everyone who has reviewed the Glideride Max had said what you have about the new FF Blast Max foam being more squishy, less dense and less responsive. Asics now made the Novablast into niche shoe with little versatility unlike past versions. I appreciate your honesty.
@smilingsunflower-q9p it's bizarre hey- I've watched a few reveiws where people are adamant that they're really responsive and punchy but I just can't feel it- human body is a crazy thing 😁
Great review!!! After living with this shoe for a bit I agree and was equally stumped by other reviews that found this snappy (well, everyone's foot is different). Every run, I had to concentrate on just getting through while being abnormally tired towards the end of an hour. Maybe it is because I have a very high arch. I was looking at the shape of the sole/foam, and there is a little gap at the midfoot when the shoe is laying flat. My Brooks Glycerin 20 make contact with the ground in that area, and I can coast in them with much less effort and go faster when I want. Sad because the upper on the NB5 is so good. Still looking for something to replace the Glycerins because that verison is getting scarce!
@@jogoncrago thanks, hadn't seen that one. Im looking for neutral though. Wish I could finally get hands on a Superblast 2. Will look out for your reviews. These are great.
If the rumors are true which are under embargo, they softened the Novablast to distance itself from the firmer Superblast in order to introduce a new "Blast" shoe with a plate.
@@anjalirawat5378 i do think the novablast can definitely do as a first time shoe- especially when getting easy run volume, sl2 from Adidas a nice low risk investment as well
Thanks, but I don't agree that the ride is "mushy". It's noticably softer than the 4s, but not really compared to the first 3 iterations. The 4s were more useful for a variety of workouts, and this is now only a daily trainer.
@davidlynch9049 definitely one of those subjective areas- i really get the tiring effect of the softness on a lot of my runs, similar to the 1080v13 or invincible 3- something to do with proprioception and muscle firing which would be pretty unique between people. As a I said- divisive shoe
I think for a lot of us this is too soft now to even be a daily trainer. For them it may be a recovery shoe but for me shoes that many classify as such are so mushy that they put more work on my ankles to stablize rather than providing any recovery.
@edwinpepito1498 bit subjective because there's a bit more compression here- i feel like it's a bit mushy, but others argue it's smoother than the 4. I would say slower for myself
No. The 4s were firmer and could be used for speedier workouts. The 5s are softer and have lost the speed feeling. The RUclips guy is exaggerating the softness calling it "mushy" and "marshmallowly". It's not, but softer than the 4s. I have 200 Kms on the 5s, and it does get firmer.
@ you are right. Most of the runners don’t know that the softer is the shoe, more muscles need to work to stabilize the body after the impact. Unfortunately they think that is all about impact absorption, they are completely wrong.

Totally agree. The shoe is mushy, energy sapping vs the NB4

nice review i would use as a daily trainer and Super blast 2 uptempo /long run

way better than the NB4 by far

It's softer, but more like the first 3. The 4 became firmer and the 5 is going back to the originals.🤷🏻
But won’t that make you stronger, because you’re using those muscles?
