You don’t need 18v/upsized drills in commercial either. They’re overpowered and I’ve watched guys break a lot of stuff with them. I work as a commercial electrician and the m12 impact driver has handled everything I throw at it and it won’t break fasteners as easily. Kinda want to switch from an impact to a drill though. Impacts are better for working in cars with high torque bolts. Not needed in the construction trades
@@treehugger4916 key word. Electrician. Yall are doing small boxes regardless. Commercial plumbing is 4in waste, storm water and up. The hangers for that are 5/8. Have fun doing that with the 12v kit.
I have alot of m12 tools as a tractor mechanic, the 3/8 impact gun, 1/4 inpact driver, drill, soldering iron, disc cutter, dremel, torch and reciprocating saw... incredible tools. Much better than the 18v makita equivalent
I use a strange combo of the M12 Surge impact with the M18 Fuel Gen 3 Hammer Drill. Works great with the right bit even for harder materials like slab concrete. Obviously there's a point where it just makes more sense to bust out the SDS but there is definitely plenty of applications where the M18 or M12 hammer drill is plenty of power. Even the impact with a good bit works well for brick/block
I can attest to the power of these little guys. I can see why you recommend use only for softer materials, but tbh I was using it to drill into solid concrete, does it like a champ.
use MFDS drill bits from wurth, and you will NOT need the hammer function.out houses here are build propertly, from concrete-bricks etc etc,and NOT from wood.
If you use the M12 drill with an XC battery you will get a lot more power. It's absolute weaksauce if you use the battery like this guy did in the video. He likes tools but seems to be a bit clueless when it comes to technical stuff. If you wait for a couple of months until the new M12 Gen 3 drill/impact and high output batteries come out, they have heaps more grunt and should bridge the gap better netween 12/18v.
Wow! That went through it like butter. I’ve got a M18 Fuel hammer drill and it took me a couple of minutes to do one hole, with a 4.5mm masonary bit. What brand of bits are you using?
Only problem is the drill does not have anti kick back which………….. for small tools they really should because you know darn well we all use them for jobs larger than they can actually handle.
Real question how often do people use the m12 hammer drill over the m18, idk I just feel like might as well just care the m18 but with a small battery or do people like the weight difference
Depends on the sized battery. I love having the 6amp on it as it lasts ages and can be stood up. If you’re drilling like this a lot batteries won’t last long. If you’re just doing general fit off they last weeks with a 6. Days with a 2ah
I have both the M-12 series and the dewalt xtreme. The M-12 I liked least was the hammer drill. No power. I’ve also found the xtreme SDS is faster than the M-12 SDS. The ergonomics on the M-12 is not comfortable on many of the tools. I’m slowly switching to the xtreme line for everything but the niche stuff like the stapler. And I’ll probably keep the M-12 bandsaw too.
Anytime doing blues and screws, sheet rock/concrete plastic anchors or ‘rawl’ plugs - the hammer drill/driver is great all day and you’re not lugging around the Sds or Sds Max. I wouldn’t ever use a masonary drill bit over 5/16” (~8mm) as it just can’t do it and screams/whines while just destroying the bit.
I agree on the 2nd gen. Picked up the third today and it's way better. Runs more like my m18. Also way quieter and feels like about double the torque. Huge upgrade
@@armdrk3233 I used my gen 2 m12 fuel drill for 8 months on the job. Running 7/8 and 1” self feed paddle bits required low gear but it did it. But I’m the end it was too much abuse and while it didn’t die, the Chuck had one lock up tooth left and the motor and drivetrain assembly was moving in the case. So I upgraded to the m18.
I was gonna say… I work in a lot of schools that we’re built in the 60’s and I have the same drill, the brick is very hard to get through with it, most of the time we just use a rotary hammer
No they’re not Look at marketplace every day after you have $60 or so You’ll see them for sale. Don’t be scared to get one that looks like it has a bit of use. I’ve gotten so many tools this way. Just picked up a M12 Fuel right angle impact 1/2 for $100 a month ago. It was damn near new
And like double the weight. This thing won't be used for drilling holes daily, but having the option to do so on a drill that size is really good I think
As a Plumber I use these all the time in residential settings. No need for 18v stuff unless your doing commercial.
Even in construction I don’t get the 18v gear out much
Definitely gets the job done.

Will the new M18 brushless impact or drill (non fuel) be enough to drill through brick ?

The M12 series tools are all pretty solid.
No they not

I use mines all the time when I’m mounting tvs on brick very good drill
Brruh how many tvs do you hang on your house 😅
Some of us install tvs for a living
Yet I can't hang up curtains with it🤬 pos drill
A lot of people don’t know u get more current from the m12 over m18, higher watts are being supplied to the tool.
M12 even today is still tops
To keep the dust on the ground to a minimum i suggets painters tape and an envelope. Sure theres still dust but most of it is kept in the envelope.

Always use the 4-6 Ah xc batteries. Def gives u more power
The high output batteries are the best
Love my m12 fuel bro little beast
HOY!!! YOU GOT A LICENSE FOR THE DRILL!!
WELL AT LEAST

JUST got mine. SO happy with it. Love it.
These are little beasts. I use mine for everything. It’s currently being used to mix mud. Still going strong.
Started out really solid now it gets hot quick and shuts down
Wait really??
Maybe not in the right settings for what you need it for or try a 4.0 - 6.0 battery
Maybe it needs some lubrication
Just use Bosch blue bits and no hammer or you'll round the end off. Way quicker if you aren't getting the SDS out
can you also use it for wood?
not wit that bit but yeah
How’s the battery life? Also can u do various task like heavier duty things
I've installed floor sensors for an alarm using a M12 and some tapcons. It works fine for little stufff.
U reckon this and an impact would be decent for starting off with just installing lights and shit like that
For basic works the m12 is fine. But if you’re going to have any harder work like putting longer screws into hard wood or steel, the m18 are needdd

Bosch and Milwaukee make the best bits imo make sure you have a hammer function
How's it do with tile? That's all I need it for.
What’s the code for this drill???
Que modelo es tu taladro M12???
I actually use it to mix drywall mud to shoot texture
The hammer drill m12 is good for 10 holes in bricks and 4 holes 1/2 inch in wood that if you want to last for 10 years.
Milwaukee is the best!

Weight and size, easy to toss the m12s in your toolbag, the m18 stay in the truck until absolutely required.
“Softer materials like brick”
You got soft hands bruther
I have to presume you’re not in a trade…?
Matt . How long do the batteries last. Charge every night or s couple of batteries a day?

That's kinda weird in US my milwaukee sds 1" hammer drill barely goes threw brick? Only run it into the joints
It's your bit or you have a defective battery or tool
Where's the battery?
In the bottom of the grip
It's a smaller battery. You can get bigger batteries if you want
Hold a piece of moist paper towel under the hole. It will catch a lot of material.

I don’t even use drills no more, i have the compact dewalt sds and an adapter if i need to use a holesaw..
You haven’t come across old good brick. Some of that is harder than concrete.
Yes
Still it’s very torque-y ,as powerful as many 18vs from other brands..
