    2:37 I love that, throughout AA4, Kristoph is written like someone who spent his formative years reading books before ever socializing. Like he knows how phrases work _in text_ but doesn’t understand that people don’t actually talk that way - so he’ll say absurdly verbose things out of nowhere. As a bonus, almost all these moments end up breaking his testimony (blue flame, the bald plate head, etc). It’s a great way to show how Kristoph’s facade is just a bit _off,_ his insistence on seeming so perfectly eloquent and affable keeping him from being seen as a normal person

    I'm actually kinda torn on this case.
    On the one hand, this case is incredible on its own and a fantastic opening case for the reasons that you mention.
    On the other hand, the case's plot twist of Kristoph being outed as the killer did cause the game's overall plot to suffer a fair bit, especially since we don't know that much about Kristoph. I think it'd be more interesting if the culprit was never caught like in DD case 4, which allows us to get to know more about Kristoph throughout the game, while Phoenix/Beanix dropping some cryptic hints that Kristoph isn't who he seems to be from time to time, and when Kristoph finally gets outed as the killer for the final case, it would've delivered a significant gut punch since he gets to be (one of your) mentor(s) throughout the game.
    All in all, still a good case, though admittedly I have more bias for Turnabout Corner as my favourite case from the game!

    • @gemcomposer
      @gemcomposer 2 года назад +12

      That would have been an amazing plot twist. I totally agree and now wish the game had done that instead, because I wanted to see more of Kristoph as he's quite a good villain and it's a shame he wasn't in the game as much as he could have been.

      @fridaylambda3494 5 месяцев назад +2

      Only issue is that I think waiting until Case 4 to reveal the truth might give Kristoph more time to turn Apollo into his perfect successor. It definitely would have been much harder to convince Apollo to follow through on it with Kristoph being such a strong influence. I also don't know if the game could really keep the truth subtle without the players realizing how obvious it is and getting annoyed with how easy it was to reach the final conclusion of case 4 without even needing to investigate. It could work but it would definitely need a lot more heavy writing.

    What's also notable about this case is the way it sets up the themes and character arcs for the rest of the game, particularly Klavier's arc. Apollo's relationship with Kristoph as a kind, reassuring mentor who he has to betray for the truth parallels Klavier's relationship with his older brother. Apollo struggles, in both trump and succession, to face up against his boss; I imagine klavier goes through almost the exact same thing, but 10x worse because Kristoph is his own brother

      I actually really liked the second Apollo case, yeah, Wocky is a sniffling punk-ass b****, but that's kinda the point.
      It's kind of intended that you're supposed to generally dislike him until you learn of the really tragic circumstances surrounding him, and realize he's just acting out because of his own insecurities, then you sort of just feel bad for him, especially since this is all happening to such a young and foolishly ignorant kid.

      @@emptyvending8964 The fact that he wasn't suspicious about a little 9 or 10 year old girl giving him evidence from a mysterious person already was out of character for Phoenix. Maybe he would take the bullet if we talk about early game 1 Phoenix Wright but with all of his experience and how masterminded he got Godot at the end of the Trilogy... You see someone else wrote the story. If you see the story writer yes the original Trilogy and the Apollo Justice game are written from 2 different persons I think the guy who wrote Apollo Justice also write the story of Great Ace Attorney. To be honest The Great Ace Attorney is much much better written compared to Apollo Justice. I think the problem is that the writer first didn't wanted to continue the story of Phoenix buzt Capcom was like NO put Phoenix for the MONEY... So the story writer of Apollo Justice was forced to change his story. If you don't believe me Google exists. I think the story would be better without Phoenix I like Phoenix a LOT but because of that Apollo's character wasn't flashed out and really one dimensional thanks God Dual Destinies and Spirit of Justice changed that and Apollo got more character development more backstory... He is at the end now a well made character. Athena was well made day 1 the first game good backstory, original character behavior, great animations and design... I think they also fixed Phoenix character in Dual Destinies and Spirit of Justice a lot. I don't think Apollo Justice is bad bad but is the only game what stands out I don't like it most people don't like it as well... It has some decent cases but the end villain was mehhhh, Apollo as a character was mehhhh (he later on in later games got improved) and they miss represented Phoenix as a character.

      @@strohhuttv8848 So I agree on the card thing, I have no idea why Phoniex would've done that, was really out of character. Honestly Phoniex in the flashback feels out of character as a whole. Regardless, the deadbeat version of Phoniex is different from how we've seen him before but it works, he has this air on chillness aroud him but a lot of what he says breaks that air sometimes. I like his more mentor role and I think that whether he was gonna be in the game originally or not it did a decent amount for his character, mainly because of Trucy, him raising a daughter was an unexcepted twist for his character and their father-daughter relationship with the few interactions they have is nice. I think Apollo was great, his animations were more lively and expressive than most other characters in the series and his design brought a lot of fun to him, I think he misses a defining trait but for a protag written by a first timer....not bad. Now if we are gonna talk about a stand out bad Ace Attorney game, Dual Destines. Ruined the franchise and turned the story a way it shouldn't have gone, also the 3d models look like trash and......ugh. I guess we could argue about that if you want since you seem to like it

      @@emptyvending8964 Yes he should have questioned why did I got that important piece of evidence, who gave me that piece of evidence, how did that person obtain such a piece of evidence... Is a crime scene obtaining such a piece of evidence is not easy and only few people could obtain it. He should have questioned the evidence more befor presenting it. I agree that Phoenix as a mentor is a great representation but he also wasn't really that mentor figure he was a better mentor later on... I think his best role is when we play half of time with him and half of time with Apollo or Athena. I liked Dual Destinies and I disagree that it is thr worst game. Simon Blackquill is one of my favorite prosecutors together with Edgeworth and Godot those are my top 3 I would say place 1 is Godot place 2 is Simon and place 3 is Edgeworth for me atleast. I enjoyed the new character Athena a lot and her character was better introduced and had more backstory and a better overall representation than Apollo at first (I say at first because how I said before later on they flashed out Apollo as a character more). I mean although Dual Destinies was focused mostly on Athena and Simon and I love both characters the game is called Dual Destinies for a reason the destiny of 2 important characters and tehy backstory and how they are conected... Even then Apollo and Phoenix got some spot light to shine. I mean is great how the game included some Apollo backstory with his best friend with Athena's backstory and how Apollo had good character development at the end when he started to trust Athena again after his mind was cleared up by Phoenix. I personally put Dual Destinies was above Apollo Justice. The only problem I had with Dual Destinies is that some villains did crimes without really a big reason... For example the guy from the second case the Yokai guy. Why did he do the crime? I mean he already put sleeping pills and they slept really really deep there was no reason of committing murder if you ONLY wanted to steal the treasure for money. The school villain made kinda sense why he did the crime I personally LOVED the last case what is basically case 4 and 5 is one big case with a great plot twist. I see some problems with Dual Destinies the cases are well amde the Villains lack some motives other than that I love Dual Destinies and for me (for me I need to point out) that game is way above Apollo Justice. I think Apple Justice would have been a better game if there was no Phonix Wright at all from the beginning and that we got more character background and character development from Apollo with a better final villain. I think they fixed many mistakes in Apollo Justice with Dual Destinies and Spirit of Justice I also liked Spirit of Justice. When it comes to the 3D models I don't think they are bad of course the 3DS had some limitations what they fixed with Great Ace Attorney (well 30fps sucks but on PC you can get 60fps with cheat engine on the Chronicles game from Steam) also I think Dual Destinies had decent 3D character models the only ugly model from Dual Destinies is Trucy but Spirit of Justice Trucy model looks MUCH better. Compare Dual Destinies Trucy and Spirit of Justice you will see other than that one 3D model all others look decent in my opinion.

      @@emptyvending8964 Apollo Justice also had one case what didn't make sense like Dual Destinies with the Yokai case. In Apollo Justice that would be the I think 3rd case if I remember correctly the some child and the singing star from that other land. The murder took the 45 caliber gun from a Interpol Agent... That 45 caliber is hard to handle even police officers with experience in gun's get dislocated shoulders from using them... And a small what was it 10 or something years (I don't remember the age) old child was the culprit? ARE YOU SERIOUS... I feel like they should've either went fully with the Apollo rookie route then only giving him half and half. Phoenix could've became a mentor like Mia and probably could diverge into more interesting character changes. This wasn't a bad game, it's the lack of ambition to go fully forward the ace attorney series without Phoenix as lead and it made games like dual destinies and spirit of justice a little lifeless. In my opinion.

    • @FlashGamersNetwork

      For me it’s the fact that Phoenix got disbarred, along with the about 5-7 year gap in between AA3 and 4 (which meant limited returning characters). Also, Phoenix kind of has a new personality in AJ, but he kind of becomes his “old self” in Dual Destinies again which doesn’t make sense.

    • @fridaylambda3494
      @fridaylambda3494 5 месяцев назад

      I'd argue it's the opposite. Phoenix shouldn't have been in the game as his role in the game continues to detract from our new characters and keep the player thinking about him and what happened. It doesn't leave enough room to learn who Apollo is and what his role is in the story. That's not Apollo's fault. It's the writers for wasting time by creating a complicated disbarment plot that doesn't have anything to do with the new protagonist. Capcom and by extension the fanbase needed to embrace the fact that Phoenix doesn't need to be the protagonist. It's one of the reasons why Duel Destinies and Spirit of Justice are so stagnant and lacking any improvement while the TGA flourishes.
