I had a simple appendicitis surgery. 24 hours after being released I was being rushed to the hospital. I had ice baths and.😊Ice blankets on hour 72 they decided to do an exploratory surgery. They put drainage in place; they said no infection 😮 I was 15 so I was under parental guidance. My mom worked for the hospital (less than 1/2 mi) away. Two weeks later after flushing me with antibiotics killing the bacteria good! And bad.
Years later when I had lumbar spine surgery the same thing happened. I was under home nurse care after the vascular surgeon reopened the wound and 😢bam I’m nursing what resembled 3 bullet holes. I am fainting and vomiting through 18 months and a 3rd surgery later I was released to work again.

I had both surgeries back in 2021 & unfortunately, I still have the exact same symptoms. I went back to my GI doc & did a ph balance test. It shows that I still have severe reflux. I asked her why when I had 2 surgeries & she said that sometimes there is a 1% chance that this surgery does not work. I didn't even work out or lift anything that I was not supposed to. She gave me carafate & it's been a month on this meds & it is still not helping. She wants to do another bravo test and/ or repeat the surgery and have the band tightened. UGH Thanks for reading,

Hi Frank - I am considering the hiatal hernia and tif surgery. But - I live with chronic constipation. Can you share what was going on with you then and how you resolved the constipation. I'm concerned not resolving my constipation issue will mess up the operation? Any input would be appreciated. Thank you!

Well...my usual answer is talk to your doc. For me, I took a laxative regularly (doc told me I could and was okay longer term if needed. My PT - specialization in pelvic floor issues - also said this was ok...although the things we worked on helped and got me to the point where i didn't need the laxative). I was also told by my doc to increase magnesium. That helped too. Prunes and other natural remedies seemed to help too. I always forgot about the stool softeners but that might be something to ask about as well. I never did that one but is another option perhaps. I even tried what an OT called magic porridge. You can find it here -
Constipation Recipe - Michigan Medicine medicine.umich.edu/sites/default/files/content/downloads/constipation-recipe.pdf. I know several OTs and they recommended it, very highly.
Again, not a doctor and not recommending specifically for anyone, but these are the things i tried. Always consult with a healthy professional and your doc. Good luck!!!!

My doctor, about two weeks before the surgery, recommended I start eating dried fruit. Which I did. That kept everything working, even after my surgery. 8 months later,no problems. I do eat a few cranberries and blueberries with my yogurt for breakfast. Seems to have really made a difference.

Listening to you makes me afraid to have surgery. My hiatal hernia is causing me to be anemia because they found erosions on my hernia which is bleeding and making me iron deficient anemia. For four years they didn't know where I was bleeding from, but now they know it's from the erosions. Im tired of getting iron infusions every month or two.

See the title of the post (hiatal hernia). I am doing fine now. I had numerous tests, blood, endoscopy, colonoscopy, etc., etc. Nothing abnormal. I did have my gallbladder removed in Feb 23. I am not an insurance company so have no idea why Linx is is not covered. From what I heard, the newness of the tech is primarily a reason. I had a TIF and hiatal hernia repair.

@PoM-MoM I might pop a Tums or Rolaids, but VERY rarely. I think maybe like 5-10 over the last 2 years or so. I just don't need them. If I do, it is a normal acidity feeling and I did it to myself. Too much salsa or spicy food, etc. I'm asking for it at that point.

That is good to know about.
I've had the discovery Endoscopy for this but no corrective surgery. They said I don't have the hernia but just a lazy muscle/closure. I have to take Zantac 360 before sleep, every night. Nothing in daytime tho, yet. I hate Dr's, hospitals, liquid diets and any pain so I'll keep to the meds until I absolutely can't. All the best 👍

So i just had imaging done for my hiatal hernia. Now i was told i had one 2yrs ago... (this is now my third hernia, first 2 were in a lower part of my abdomen) well i started losing weight and i was having issues swallowing and having trapped air. Belching didnt help with what felt like a balloon under my rib cage. (Still having that feeling) i have gerd (i am on a daily med for that as well), however i am having more issues than i did 2yrs ago. Fast forward to today, they do all the imaging again, and my hiatal hernia has pretty much doubled in size! And on top of that i was told i have what is called a sliding hiatal hernia... so my question here is, what started your journey? Was it the hiatal hernia? Orrrr.....

I am having a visit with a surgeon soon about possibly having the TIF procedure done. I am not sure if it's worth the risk. If there is a high incidence of the TIF failing or becoming loose after a short period of time.
Does anyone out there know if stem cell treatment can be done for this condition. If it hasn't, then I hope it will be researched and offered in the near future as stem cells seem to help many other conditions.
