The 80s was such an immensely creative time, and this show was edgy, innovative, and would never make it on the air today. Everything is beyond polished, and rehearsed now. The hosts were clever, spontaneous, and passionate about MUSIC!
These were talented musicians. There was so much great music from different genres during the late seventies and eighties. So many great venues, affordable gigs, free festivals! - before the corporates got involved. The Tube was a great show to start the weekend. Also, New Good Dream is one of my favourite albums. Regards from Kent.
I am from Australia and have never seen the TUBE before. I have been watching a few episodes on YT and i love the ones from the 80s, Paula Yates cracks me up. I love her little snide comments such as the one with Bananarama. She is talking to them and they keep giggling and Paula says " It seems like you are drinking again" LOL. We only really know of Paula because of the whole Michael Hutchence/Bob Geldof thing. I didnt even realise it was her either till i got up to the 2nd episode of the show. i
Aussie here too, I was only vaguely aware of this show but of course we never got it in Australia. Paula Yates hosted Tonight Live With Steve Vizard for one week in the early '90s and was absolutely brilliant. It was a tragedy when she died as she was an incredible talent. I have a feeling this is the show The Young Ones were targeting in their first episode, where Rik is watching a TV show called "Nosin' Around" which strongly resembles aspects of what they are doing here, and then kicks in the TV because it isn't "anarchic" enough.
I remember being quite shocked when I saw the state of Glasgow on film. How did it get so bad, and yet some great music and bands came from there, incredible. 🤔
@@MartinHiggins1972it was the kind of pretention that was the brattish younger sibling of ambition. From my teenaged memories of the times, there was an urgency to outdo whatever had happened just before, as well as a desire to bury the stale, lingering remnants of the 1970s. What a great decade for music. For that matter what a great decade for pretty much everything! I'd love to live it all over again. Not this S*#t show we're living in now.
11:53 Never was aware David Sylvian had joined Bananarama ? Shameless opportunistic bunch..... digging into thousands past hits that even had just 10 seconds of an ear worm hook.
@@nutcracker2916 The composers of those songs did well . The little money they made had to be from television or live performances which they didn't do that much. They had fun for a few years ofcourse.
Imagine how much grief a pop group would get nowadays if they made a music promo video showing a black man with his head and hands locked in a village stocks and being hit with an inflatable banana lolol
It's the most interesting 80s song I've discovered recently. Obviously the production isn't great but the ideas behind the song are great in my opinion.
Simple Minds & Flock of Seagulls were the only two performances that made this hunk o junk episode worth watching lol! Sad it got cut off mid- song. Oh and Robert Palmer wernt half bad either! 👍😊
Yeah gods when I look back at this, I knew then what I know now that the 80s was a decade full of musical crap. 60s 70s 90,s and 00s and teens the best . Too early tell with this one.
Oh little Clare Grogan, we all loved you ❤
She was adorable in "Gregory's Girl"
@@RosePetal17 I was one of millions of young men all over the world who fell for her in that movie.

This has to be the source of French and Saunders “Lananeeneenoonoo”. They weren’t far off at all! Jennifer even got Siobhans lower lip action.
Jeff Beck theme tune for the Tube
Great show
Set The Tone were a really interesting band. A bit ahead of their time.
You must be joking.
@@mjh5437 Not at all.
All of the full episodes from 1982-1987 were put up on you tube just over a year ago but must have been taken down.

Good to see Muriel before her arson era

A thought Fofo was funny when I first saw this aged 15, but like me Fofo’s act hasn’t aged well…
Hi, please let me know about the band Impronta - Lost and lonely, there Is a vinyl edition? Thanks
Where's all the rest of the episodes then?

Mel Gaynor was the start of the rot for Simple Minds.
Derek Forbes, Derek Forbes...... D E R E K. F O R B E S.
