Song was made in 2010, so he’s saying he’s devoted himself entirely to hip hop since 1995, that’s the point of the title. 25 to life is also a common life sentence, but you can be given parole after 25 years, so that’s what he’s trying to do in this song. Eminem is known for his entendres and hidden meanings, so you should always look for play on words, references to different things, and play a song multiple times to get the most out of it.
"25 to life" refers to his life sentence to the love of his life, rap. "My life sentence is served" he wanted to quit because music took all his time and went unappreciated by many people, meanwhile he missed out on time with his daughter due to being married to his career. There's more to it, but that's a basic summary from my understanding.
Em will probably never get the respect that he damn sure deserves in hip hop, as an artist. He proves time and time again that hes the GOAT. He made Rap God, broke records for most words in a single song, no one broke his record, so he came out with Godzilla and broke his own record from Rap God. He has 10 number one albums on the billboards, not songs or singles, but entire albums, people struggle just to get one album at number one, hell people struggle getting a single song in the top 50. He has out sold every artist in music history in album sales, has more number one songs than any other artist, hes respected by the top lyrical artists to ever grace the mic, he has influenced the most lyrical artists in hip hop today. Every rap beef that came his way he came out on top, he ended artists careers with that rap beef. He brought the world 50 cent, which is one of the most realist dudes in hip hop in my opinion. Em has been in the game putting out fire for over 20 years, and he still didnt fall off or slow down. Hes still going strong after all these years. For an artist to be the number one active rapper that still puts out albums that reach top 3 on the billboards after 20+ years, it's insane. Rappers usually get worse as time goes on, Em has actually got better and better over the years. That's never happened as far as I know. All of the people that hate on Em, even thier own favorite rappers say Em is the GOAT. And no matter what he does, no matter how many times he proves his greatness, some people in the industry will hate on him because hes the GOAT and hes White. If he was black and the GOAT, those same people would never talk bad about him. They are racist toward white people, they hate that a white artist raps better then black artists. And it's a damn shame. Color shouldn't even be a factor when your talking about talent and music. I can care less if Em was black, Asian, Hispanic, or green. His talent speaks for itself, that should be all you need.
Actually, he hasn’t sold out more than everyone in history. Michael Jackson still holds that record with Thriller. If you’re talking about the rap industry then yes; but not in the whole industry.
@@ItzSilasRain Well yeah, Pop and Rock are way different genre's of music, with a completely different fanbase. Some of them get into rap and hip hop, some of them more than others. But it is a different genre. I should have said "in Hip Hop/Rap History". My bad. Me personally, I never liked Michael Jackson, his music was never my type of music that I listen to. I'm not saying anything bad about his music or anything, it was just never my kind of music. However, Michael Jackson has the type of music for all ages, all around the world. So I see why he has the most records sold. And like I said, it's Pop. There isn't really any complexity to his music. That's why I like Em. A real lyricist in hip hop will make you replay the same record over and over again many many times just to catch each bar and scheme. Because the bars are that complex, it makes you think, it gives you an insight into the mind of who created the lyrics. And even after the media, radio stations, and the rest of the music industry was against Em since the beginning, he still managed to make it too the very top of a uphill battle, and hes still going stronger than ever today. And its because of the fans that stuck with him since day one, and the new fans that he gained over recent years.
@@IlDeimos no need to apologize! I get it and I love Eminem myself. He is definitely the best rapper in history. It’s unfortunate that people don’t want to agree because he’s white and that’s fucking racist. It’s also annoying as hell how he’s put so much work into his career but a lot of black people don’t want to admit he’s the best because of that reason. It’s always an “he’s alright. He’s not the best.” Or “so and so is better than him” when they completely suck. He definitely deserves more respect.

Eminem - Renegade (this song is just a classic)
This whole song was about his relationship... But with hip-hop. "Jealous when I spend time with the girls" Eminem gave his all to hip-hop yet he is still treated like shit by the game. And the crazy part is: Eminem broke through in 1997 with his Slim Shady EP which Dr. Dre heard of and since then he is famous. Eminem is born in 1972, 1997-1972 = 25. Eminem has been given a life sentence since he was 25 to the fame which makes him unable to go outside and keeps him trapped like a real sentence. So 25 to life sentenced to the fame!
25 to life is a life sentence. Your life is done and gone afterwards. He gave his life to hip hop and all it did was judge, hurt, and turn its back on him. There is no loyalty
The best way to describe eminem is someone that puts all his emotions into so gs,when hes angry you can tell, when hes happy it shows, hes been through alot of drama with family and relationships, and he raps about it, but to me his best songs are about his daughters, you can tell how much he loves them, also his friends
Most of what Eminem talks about, specially in his most recognized work like Recovery, which 25 to Life is a part of, is about his past relationships, family, addiction, and how he came to where he is today. You should maybe listen to Slim a little more, such a great lyricist.
Eminem was introduced to Hip Hop music by his Uncle Ronnie when he was 13 years old. This song was released when Em was 38, looking back at the 25 year relationship with Hip Hop and realizing it didn't love him back the way he loved it. This is him contemplating leaving the rap game.
Back in the year or 2 before he put this song album out, some Hip Hop magazine put out a list of the best rappers, and he was left off of the list. That's what he meant in the line "when you spoke of people who meant the most to you, you left me off your list..."
"25 to life": Em dropped his debut album (altho not his first, his first album was Infinite) The Slim Shady LP when he was close to turning 25 (hence the 25 part of the title) and since then, his music has basically been his life since. So in a since he's put so much time in his music and made a commitment to it. So there you have it: 25 To Life
This is why Eminem is a rare talent. 1st time hearing this song you think it's about a relationship the whole time till the end when he says fuck you hip hop I'm leaving you, and then you realize it's about his relationship with music. So the whole song has a double meaning to it and also when you go back and listen he throws little Easter eggs in telling you he's talking about hip hop but he's so clever with his pen game you don't catch them until you realize the song is about music and not a female. Bottom line he made a song about his relationship with hip hop in a way you would talk about a relationship with a person and made it make sense both ways. Genius.
Not even watching the video while posting, but I already know this shit's gonna blow you away 😂 God bless, dear! Hope your days have been treating you wonderful.
As far as the 25 to life thing. It’s a reference to a life sentence. He’s basically saying that when he got into hip hop it eventually took away his life as he started to serve it. And now he’s talking to hip hop telling it, he wants out but he’s in it forever
Most of his songs have 2 or possibly 3 different meanings in them so it resonates with a lot of different situations that people have been in. You might get confused in small parts in lots of his songs until you open your mind and think of all the various possibilites he could of meant. More than likely he meant all of what you thought. It's a big reason why everyone knows how much of a genius he is with words.
Eminem has been rapping now for over 25 years since this song has been released. He almost gave up and killed himself before Dre signed him when he was struggling working a dead end job and got fired he wrote and recorded rock bottom and took a massive amount of pills to end it but just ended up getting sick. So when he says Dre saved his life he literally did. He's also saying after everything he has done for the culture hip hop has never gave him his dues in return even tho he is one of the greatest to touch the mic and the game changes so fast and even when he's trying to save hip hop from the trash that's teaching our youth for the worse they still getting their praise. He lost friends and family to this world. From doing this for a check to feed his family to becoming the biggest artist in hip hop there's things outside of hip hop he's had to sacrifice because of his fame
he talked about his relatarionships in (hailie's song, superman, castle and arose, bad husband, the real slim shady) which they are all amazing and you should react to them pls ;-;
It’s interesting to hear someone say they never heard him talk about his relationships. As someone who grew up on Eminem (first heard him in 99 in the my name is video) if I were asked I’d say relationships has been one of his main themes. Whether it be with Kim, his mom, his kids, half brother, Ronnie ect. He even uses relationships allegorically. It’s dope to see someone getting into lyrics. A good hook and melody is hype (I get into trap style beats and “mumble” rap). It has a certain energy to it. lyricist have a vibe that’s important also. Not a more important level but one holds equal value. It’s not good to saturate in too much of the same thing. It be cool to see rhyming become more competitive again. Not to be aggressive just to mentally challenge peoples minds before they atrophy from the party.
Hip hop never shows em the respect he deserved and for all he sacrificed, his family and time he was left off all the most loved rappers list.he divorced rap.came back w a vengeance
When he said, "jealous that I spend time with the girls", he's talking about when "has a life" when he tries to be a person and spend time with his exwife and his children. Hip-hop ignoring him was more about when he was on hiatus and dealing with his own shit, and fans and the business push and pull. "When's the next album coming out?" "Eminem is done" "Em's last album wasn't good" when he had already cemented himself as one of many "GOATS". He's talking about how the industry just wants to take take take and doesn't really care about him or his wellbeing when he is a person outside of being a rapper with a life.

There are similar songs from Eminem
No there isn't.
@@BrutalDave89 Maybe not a lot but there is a few where someone sings
This is why Eminem is a rare talent. 1st time hearing this song you think it's about a relationship the whole time till the end when he says fuck you hip hop I'm leaving you, and then you realize it's about his relationship with music. So the whole song has a double meaning to it and also when you go back and listen he throws little Easter eggs in telling you he's talking about hip hop but he's so clever with his pen game you don't catch them until you realize the song is about music and not a female. Bottom line he made a song about his relationship with hip hop in a way you would talk about a relationship with a person and made it make sense both ways. Genius.
Notification gang where you at?? Haha
🍣
I believe you when you say you didn’t know he was talking to hip hop, your journey of understanding was a great watch
"Stan" then "bad guy" plz
Eminem Beautiful
There's nothing better than watching Eminem reaction videos, from people who never listened to him before.
Really enjoying watching you react to Eminem. He has so many great songs. No shortage of videos reacting to him!
For the love songs about his wife, look up ‘Kim’ ‘Love you more’ ‘crazy I love’ ‘love the way you lie’ ‘normal’ ‘bad husband’ ‘tragic endings’
Heyy sushi I never commented on any of your videos but I been subbed for a hot minute but I just wanted to say I hope life's treating you well
25 to life is life sentence, Em basically gave his life to hip hop (and fans are grateful)
Not even watching the video while posting, but I already know this shit's gonna blow you away 😂 God bless, dear! Hope your days have been treating you wonderful.
Too sushi ✨ you nailed it on this one every thing you said I was going to say keep the good work up excited to see more from you
As far as the 25 to life thing.
From doing this for a check to feed his family to becoming the biggest artist in hip hop there's things outside of hip hop he's had to sacrifice because of his fame
he talked about his relatarionships in (hailie's song, superman, castle and arose, bad husband, the real slim shady) which they are all amazing and you should react to them pls ;-;
