Also the only rappers whos careers didn't end by Em because they fired back with facts instead of insults. Young people have no idea how great music was back then. People had thicker skin back then. However, if he would come out with an album like this now, he would get a lot of hate for it, but the fans that Em built up over the years, would have his back all the way.

Eminem has always been a reactionary artist. You have to know the context in order to understand his lyrics. This song is called Marshall Mathers but It's Shady on steroids xD. If you want Marshall Mathers you have to listen to The Eminem Show LP, which is another masterpiece in my opinion, although not as shocking as The Marshall Mathers LP. If you want the funny shady, then you must listen The Slim Shafy LP. Another outstanding album. And by the way, you don't suppose to take everything he raps about seriously, because if you do you really gonna get offended... He makes is very clear in many of his songs, including Sing For The Moment, which I highly reccomend (the unsensored version off course...).

That verse about Faygo root beer, silent gay etc...is about the Insane Clown Posse (ICP). They are a niche hip hop act that wears clown face paints and started an entire community of individuals into their music and slang, who call themselves juggalos. At the time, there was a beef between ICP and Eminem, as they are both from the Detroit area (according to Em, ICP isn't from Detroit) etc. Anyway, in case you were confused about the slim anus thing, they basically dissed Em by calling him Slim anus instead of slim shady. This was a response to them in that line and the other lines.
Truth. I dated juggalo in high school not exactly knowing. He asked if I wanted to go to a concert and I got really excited until he told me what concert. The day of the concert I stopped by his place and say him all dorked out in his ICP make up....we broke up on the spot!

Em never really had a "beef" with N'sync. He simply hated the whole scene of "boy bands" that were clearly manufactured music industry products that were propped up by MTV videos with no clear "talent" that could survive without the rest of the boy-band production team. Notice that the only one who really broke out on his own was Timberlin, and Am rarely has a bad thing to say about him other than to do wordplay to refwrence the "boy band" era.

What you meant to say was the old Eminem was a force to be reckoned with and spoke his mind. It wasn't a bad day or beef, that's who he was and was the main reason he became so popular. He spoke out, rebelled, scared the establishment and was pretty much the voice of the counter culture.
Now he's a voice of the establishment and loves playing nice with the powers that be, went from the heart of the counter culture to become a useful cog in the machine he once ardently rebelled against. Can't beat em? Join em. It's definitely easier to be obedient to your corporate masters. They're happy to scratch your back if you do their bidding. Em was a pariah to big media back in the day. Congress wanted to censor him and wasted our tax dollars trying to figure out how. The media ran all kinds of stories about this horrible Eminem guy who shouldn't enjoy free speech so he embraced it and really didn't care what the mainstream or Al Gore thought of him. Now him and Gore and the media are all great teammates singing kumbaya.

The thing with this theme is that other rappers like ICP. The Source magazine, his mother and lawyer. Underground rappers, cousins he never met. Half brother and sister who only reached out when he became famous. Before they never ever met him. The rap game, vanilla ice. The critics. All these have never been there for him his cousins never met him. His mom wasn't there and was suing him for 10 million. The source benzino was calling him racist and gave him two mics on the source. He was jealous a white rapper is taking the shine from black rappers. ICP insane clown posse they taking shots too without Eminem starting it. All these to Eminem are bullies. And he just dissed and called them all out for their BS. That's why is call Marshall Mathers. His last name is Math-Ers, this song is very candid about where Em's headspace was at, dealing with his newfound fame, beefs with other music artists and being lumped in with the pop and R&B types of his era. The teeny bopper scene was big and he wanted to just be associated with Hip-hop and not the Popular gumball music from the late 90's. Very similar to the Mumble Rappers who don't want to be associated with Hip-hop music. That's the reason Eminem doesn't like Mumble Rappers because he feels they have no talent and kind of cheated to become popular.
