Exploring the island that Jeremy Clarkson once called home!

- The Isle of Man is steeped in Top Gear history, especially considering Jeremy Clarkson used to own a place on the island. But did you know it also has a lot to offer on top of just the unrestricted TT roads? Mike Fernie takes the DriveTribe M5 Touring for a spin around the island to explore this petrolhead paradise.

It’s almost… palpable
If you listen carefully, you can hear his genius
is almost frightening
Jeremy only had a holiday home there. He never made it his tax residency.

I like how Mike's not terribly thick Scottish accent gets thicker when he drives fast.
Also I genuinely enjoy how you can see Hammond's influence on Mike's presenting style
MIkes matured so well in this channel, love his style
i didn't even notice till you pointed it out
Isn’t Mike Irish?

Some of the best top gear episodes were filmed on the Isle of Man. Remember the sports car episode (Boxter, S2000 and Z4) and the M3 CSL. What a place to drive it
That Top Gear episode was iconic!!
I remember coming home for dinner at school, watching repeats and it always seemed to be on! Managed to go last year and the weather was exactly the same, wet, windy and misty, I LOVED IT!
It's sweeeeeeet!
What season and episode was it?
@@reaperxi-0382 Series 3 Episode 2. They took the BMW M3 CSL, 1980s M3, M5 and M1 and Boxster, S2000 and Z4 to the Isle of Man.
@@sukhdevr3489 Actually, the episode quoted at the the end of the video is Series 7 Episode 1 where the trio tested a 997 Carrera vs V8 Vantage vs V10 M6. That film is just as golden as the episode you mentioned although I will say the M3 CSL review is more famous.
@@longtailgt Yep, I thought of that immediately after I made my comment but I couldn't be bothered to change it lol.
Loving the amount of work that’s been going into these films recently! Quickly becoming one of my favourite channels on here…
Completely agree!
I can say from first hand experience it is a truely amazing island the IOM. Been over there for both the TT (10x) and the classic TT. I would say, in a way its like the UKs version of Hawaii.
8:20 bro that bit made me teary-eyed 😿
I'll miss those golden years.
Yeah, not gonna lie, that weirdly hit me hard emotionally too!
Goosebumps in multiple waves
This made me grasp we're already on the trail of what remains of a magical era in the automotive world, that of the mid '90s to mid 2000s.
You know patina makes everything more meaningful and poetic, but I didn't expect that this much would lay down in fifteen years.
Late 80s to early 00s cars really get me going, hopefully we can keep driving them.
@@TestarossaF110 with an attitude of "hopefully we can keep driving them", the powers to be are gonna take you for everything you have and more in a the coming years with such a passive mindset.
Thanks Mike for portraying the Isle of Man so well. I was captivated by the place in 2017 when I first visited for work, by 2019 I was living the dream and continue to do so, the heritage, the people, the roads and even the unpredictable weather make this place special and unique.
Being very diplomatic about Clarkson’s connections with the IOM there. His ex-wife is from the island as was her father about whom he made the VC Documentary. He wrote a lot about the lighthouse in his columns, he loved it there. I thought Francie still owned it.
She might do, but might have made a business out of it.
VC Documentary?
The man in question was Major Robert Cain. Francie Clarkson’s father.
@@OllieTT They have had holiday cottages there for years.
@@cerebralm Victoria Cross. It's been uploaded by a couple documentary channels here on RUclips.
Tax havens and crypto/NFT go together. This was a bad ad choice.
When you have to hawk crypto on a car show you lost me, bye.
The Isle of Man is one of my absolute favourite places on the planet! A gorgeous island with so much history and beautiful roads.
And I also find it awesome that you ended up using a BMW for this tour, as both the times that Top Gear did films there, they featured BMWs - first the M3 CSL, E30 M3, E34 M5, M1 and Z4 and the second time the E63 M6 (vs the 997 and V8 Vantage). Both of those episodes are among my favourite TG episodes.
I really enjoyed the video. Very well done. It's a beautiful place. I must admit that I got a little sentimental when I heard their voices in the background.
Be careful with the crypto sponsors. Most of the time, it all is just scam
Amusing that an episode filmed in a tax haven has a crypto-scam peddler as its sponsor. The irony is delicious. Now don't do it again.
Taxes, just getting right to it then 😂👏🏽
Jeremy once owned a Lighthouse?! That is a dream of mine, sadly will probably never come true. But how cool.
Yes he did, Gordon Ramsay did an episode with Jeremy at the house
@@declanthomas1996 Gordon Ramsey? Episode of what?
@@alanburke76 Gordon Ramsay was going round cooking local things with famous people, often in their kitchens iirc. In Jeremy Clarksons case it was lobster. I'd forgotten about that but instantly remembered I'd seen it on RUclips years ago when I read the comment. I knew I already knew about the lighthouse!
@@alanburke76 right, an episode of the 'F Word'. Here is the episode uploaded by the programs own channel 2 years ago but judging by the other clips out there it's a lot older than that.

"And maybe one day they'll be back" some positive foreshadowing there Mike 👍👍. Watch this space ...
Thank you very much for a superb look at the island, just a shame you didn't mention that there is another much more solid connection, Mrs Clarkson, bearer of his children and possibly still his manager, is of Manx origin, daughter of the only Manx man to win the Victoria Cross for his courageous efforts at the Battle of Arnhem, Monty's Bridge Too Far!
Mountain Road = My commute to work 🇮🇲
What an absolute beauty of a movie, more of this plz
When I saw the M5 and Clarkson instinctively clicked. We need him and the manual M5!

Isle of Man is certainly a place I'd like to visit one day
It's safe to say Richard,James and Jeremy are as much a part of motoring culture as the car companies themselves, they truly made millions of people fall in love with cars
The episode where the umbrellas are getting blown away is one of my favourites
Wasn't there a sketch by Harry and Paul actually called 'Clarkson Island'?
Cool onitsuka tigers (shoes) not many wear them outside of Japan
Thank you Mike on another great show and yes we all hope the three wise men do get back for another run!!
Beautiful! Congrats on the video
Enjoyed this one thanks Mike and the team (skipped the infomercial as per mind).
Hi Mike. Genuine question for you and I understand it could be a touchy subject. Did you and Jeremy have a falling out over his Alfa Romeo? When his girlfriend/wife gave you the keys without his permission?? The reason I ask is because Hammond and May have both appeared in numerous videos where as Jeremy has not
I think what happened there was that Harry Metcalfe asked JC before hand
@@grahammurphy5516 What did Harry ask Jeremy??
@@KarenMc_on-d-Smak Harry asked Jeremy for the Alfa Romeo to review on his channel and I think it was just a case that Harry got there first.
I think Jeremy is just far more busy with his own schedule, doing Clarkson's farm, Who wants to be a millionaire etc whereas the other two aren't as busy. Not sure if Jeremy is actually part of this channel anymore tbh...
Clarkson has a farm and is very busy.
Awesome! Not a fan of the choice of sponsor though... :P I would LOVE to go to the Isle after watching this though.
I guess many of us remember what it was like to be treated like adults by our governments.
Stunning!
What have you done with the real Mike??? He wouldn’t do a video without a bottle of IRN BRU on show!!
They keep it there to remind us what it used to be like to be free.
There are no speed limits in the UK....till you're caught
And before you ask, yes I do have points 🤣🤣
A "tax haven", you just went right ahead and said it, man!
Clarkson’s genius :D perhaps have all 3 in a video too, meet with Day to Day car they use? :D
Absolutely beautiful piece of work this presentation is:)
It's the best island...... in the world.
Great video, I’ve wanted to go to the island all my life, but won’t happen now. I had no idea of all the other attractions and lack of speed limit, now I want to go more than ever, sadly it’s a long way from AUS.
A 9 minute video which includes a 1.5 minute ad….disappointing. Maybe cut back on the money grabbing and make some decent content.
Bro, there is a feature called seek, if u may give ur fingers that bit of pain sliding on ur screen. I can't believe someone can hate such a nostalgic video. Ads are fueling that M5 he's driving ultimately
We ALL miss the Top Gear of the old times. We miss the shenanigans on the BBC news, the crazy antics with their hatred of caravans, and their love of big engine sounds. Hopefully they'll give us a bit of each before they truly retire.
Brought to you by the Isle of Man tourist board
And now a message from our sponsor, the Isle of Man Tourism and Emigration Bureau. 🤣
Loved this. Not been to the IoM for 36 years, when I went on a "day trip" on the maiden voyage of the Waverley after its restoration, in a force 10 gale over the Irish Sea. We were stuck there for three days! I really should go back...
I saw the title and thought it was the Harry and Paul classic. Always makes me laugh. Saw that bit of orange on your wrist so must be a Casio G-Shock. Doubt you would wear a Casio F-91W.
Great Video. Reminds me why I'm so lucky to grow up and live on the IOM. Such a stunning place and absolutely one of the main reasons I love cars :)
Unrestricted speed limits and home of JC for awhile?
Ladies and gentlemen, we may have just found the real Clarkson Island.
I was hoping for Harry Enfield.
It's ridiculous that a man so beloved doesn't have a personal fiefdom by now
It felt strangely nostalgic watching that. Keep up the great production guys!
they also have their own language which is cool. shame it wasnt mentioned in the video.
Great trivia! Indeed we do - Manx Gaelic. I actually have a GCSE in Manx Language
@@TregTube cool. I speak some scottish gaelic so ive always wondered how mutually intelligible our languages are.

They smoke kippers eh? No wonder there's no speed limit then, with all that herring about on the island, who'd catch who?
Crypto, is that still a thing?
May the algorithm bless this video, what a thrill ride
No mention of the horse drawn trams on the promenade?
Gah.. "Minting an NFT", there's no minting to speak of, and keeping an NFT in mint condition is all too easy.
I mean, i get that it's "just" advertisements, but this is up there with Raid Shadow Legends.
Someday... someday I'll make it over there from the US🔥
No Clarkson...
Great video! I'm honestly curious...do those speed limit signs indicate 30 MPH or 30 KPH? And if it is MPH, is that standard in the UK? The only driving experience I have outside the US is Canada; where speed limits that are posted as KPH
UK uses MPH. 30MPH is the standard speed limit in UK towns. 60MPH out of towns. Local govt can reduce these by 10mph in certain areas (e.g. near schools). Motorways are 70MPH.
30 mph
This video is fantastic!
I've learnt something new, I'd love to visit this beautiful place
Mike is a great presenter, love his work
Carbon offsets aren’t really effective. So no thanks Algorand
Slightly disappointed this wasn't about Clarkson Island from the Harry Enfield Show 😆
Cringe video. What's next? 'Exploring the underpants that Jeremy Clarkson once owned'?
Lovely Island no Soggy fishing though and a sweeeeet Seal.
Mike you're quality to be fair! Great video.

Pretty sure there's a video on RUclips of him and Gordon ramsay fishing for lobster on this island
This guy idolizes May, Hammond and Clarkson away too much. Creepy for a grown man.
He's an up-and-coming car journalist and television presenter. It makes sense that he'd idolize the trio. He's also on their payroll
I love the Isle of Man 🇮🇲 it’s a beautiful little island with rich motorsport history
i think someone once did a parody of clarksons island but it was in the shape of a car
The real thing we need is Clarkson as president
Na, prime minister.
Indeed
We live in such a strange time I can't tell if you are sarcastic or genuine
He's practically royalty
Just truley a great video
Is every bit of content this guy creates related to the general simping of the old Top Gear Trio? Move on bud!
ngl kind of disappointed with the crypto/nft sponsor. we already know they are a scam especially after the crypto crash earlier this year.
It would be interesting to see them get back together and do basically part two videos of some of the classic old videos they did on TG, and show how their opinions have changed as they've gotten older.
HATS OFF to the video.. brought me tears. Happy tears, Thank you drive tribe.
Why does drivetribe still feel the need to do all these nonsense clickbait titles mentioning Clarkson Hammond or May?
Shameful scammer "green" block chain ad.
Are you guys really that desperate?
Beautiful Scenery, godlike Twisties, no Speed Limits, little to no traffic, basically heaven for petrolheads. I know where i buy a house when i win the lottery for which i would need to start playing lottery in the first place but you get the idea, hopefully...
