I keep seeing these IMU based trackers, and they almost always get jittery. I think a blend between base station, and IMU is the best way to go. I wonder if it's possible to make it so that the laser tracking just switches over to IMU when obfuscated in a system with both.

    • @zig131

That is pretty much the exact plan for StonX eventually.
The earliest version of StonX was outside-in only with passive (i.e. not electronic) trackers.
Once the IMU-only version is out, work will switch to re-implementing Beacon + passive retroflector tracking so you can have the best of both worlds.
So not laser tracking - it won't require Lighthouses - but StonX's own "Beacon" which should be cheaper to produce as no moving parts like Lighthouse has.

I made my own DIY trackers that I've used quite a bit, and the tracking quality is noticeably better from my experience. As well as this, my trackers are DIY trackers that I made myself, and the production ready trackers will have significantly better IMUs for tracking. I do think StonX has potential, and has a place if they do the vision and IMU fusion they showed originally, but as purely IMU based trackers, SlimeVR seems to stack up better from my experience

that, and that they are smaller, lighter,
-claim to be super optimized both hardware-wise (that's how you get 20hrs of battery in such a small device) as well as software-wise (and supposedly the software is very user-friendly),
-don't need a specific wifi connection (they provide a dongle for that) and supposedly won't need as much bandwidth as slimes,
-have a seperate tracking data algorithm (F.A.P) that has advantages like fine-tuned skating correction (but clearly needs the love and time that slimevr algorithm has received),
-use earth's magnetosphere to correct drift (according to dev, zero drift throughout the entire 20hrs of battery),
-charging might be less of a hassle (but I can't confirm cus my slimes havent arrived yet),
-and that they're an investment considering, when the stonx tracker beacon drops, these will (allegedly) become vive-tracker precise.

StonX looks to very competitive on a price-to-performance standpoint and has the optional convenience of a charging dock but of course it isn't here yet so it depends if you're willing to wait a few months.
What gets me excited about StonX is the plan to add an outside-in option in the long-term so eventually StonX could be used to track controllers and headsets as well.
The PCVR ecosystem could really benefit from an open, interoperable, tracking system that isn't over-engineered like Lighthouse.
Lighthouse tracking is great but has moving parts which require precision and quality assurance meaning they will always be expensive.
Through smart software, Rift CV1 Constellation tracking provides near Lighthouse accuracy but with much cheaper components.
StonX could do the same thing while being open to other companies licencing it meaning small companies can release great VR products without having to develop their own tracking or rely on their customers already having expensive hardware.

I'm tired of the vrc cycle, i enjoy hanging out with friends and i have my own group, but when it comes to vr i'd rather do something than hang around. (Luckily my new found group provides this, but outside of them, i dont even care enough to get on vrc). I know there are other games that have fbt support like blade and sorcery, which is a game i love, but if you played b&s long enough you know how quickly that can get dull too. I just wish there was more, more for fbt, more for vr in general, breaks my heart its still such a small thing. If i had more reason to get fullbody tracking other than floating in the air when i lay down on my bed in vrchat, i wouldve gotten it decades ago but im holding on to my money.

Unfortunately fully owned/controlled by Meta who seem to have no interest in using it themselves or licensing it out 😔
However the long-term plan for StonX is to add their own outside-in tracking method to the existing trackers.
The first version of StonX was outside-in and a smart method of doing that was developed that is different from Valve/Vive and Meta's methods.
Once the IMU-only version is out, work will switch to providing an option to upgrade those trackers to be trackable with "Beacons".

      Like HaritoraX but cheaper!
An advantage of HaritoraX, is that all the trackers are wired together so you only need to charge one thing.
But that does make it a bit messy - see Thrillseeker's video on it - and StonX has an optional charging dock so you can charge all 6 trackers with a single cable.

  • @itzbeelzebuddy

I would honestly get these if they're planning on making improvements to the tracking. Ik since they're cheaper they won't be perfect but the less jitter the better for me

    7:14 primary hormone?? huh??

    • @zig131
      @zig131 Год назад

Another way of putting it - what hormone triggered your puberty.
Hormones have a big effect on the way bodies end up being proportioned so it helps the smart algorithm to know how to track you better.
Not everyone identifies with the gender they were assigned at birth or identifies with a gender at all so it's a more inclusive way of getting the information the tracking math needs.

How is the drift on these? I had HaritoraX before and it SUUUCKED. Every like 20 mins I had to get up and recalibrate them because the drift was so bad. Now I have Tundra's but to be honest, they lose tracking so often it just looks funny.

the jitter is completly fine because VRChat network code isnt good enough to pick up on it and show it to other people. You see jitter, others dont.

4:37 The "Primary Hormone" space confuses me. I don't really know how it's supposed to affect calibration and I find it peculiar, especially when I'm trans and I don't know what yout primary hormone would imply when it comes to tracking.
This isn't a problem for me. It just has me genuinely confused.

I think it has something to do with male/female bone structure. Regardless of gender, your biological sex determines how that's made up, and depending on how you move around based on that it'll probably adjust the tracking setup
I think it's a funny way of avoiding directly asking if you're a boy or a girl

    • @spectenix
      @spectenix Год назад

@@KajaKitten That's not a very reliable way of determining that. Not even all biological men/women have the same bone structure.
If that was the reason, it would be better to ask for actual measurements
