We knocked out several projects during this video. Particularly, gettings lots of plants into the ground. We started with St. John's Wort, then moved to coleus and caladiums. And finally, Japanese painted fern. Enjoy!

The birds plant the St John's Wart. It6the upright variety. Great flowers and berries. I pot them and give them away, I have so many.

I saw some beautiful St. John’s Wort at Covington’s Nursery yesterday and almost got it… I opted for a hydrangea instead. The nursery folks had it located in their “shade shrubs and trees “ part of the nursery, but I noticed you planted it in full sun (and the tag said full sun). I’m curious if it would do well in a shaded area…🤔 I I have a lot of shade in my back yard due to a couple of big, beautiful, mature trees… I may just need to just test it out… plants are such an investment, though… I’ll need to have a “plan B” in case my test fails! 😋 Thanks for a great video! 👋🏼

That’s where I got mine! Yes, it was in the shade area but listed as full sun .... this will be an interesting experiment, so I’ll keep y’all updated!

I'm in central TX zone 8b. That clay is a real bugar. Try planting some daikon radishes during your off season. That should help bust the caly up.

I have a dwarf St. John’s wart shrub in my garden. Last year I used the foliage in the vase and they held up well. Mine doesn’t get berries for some reason but I don’t know the variety.

I’d be interested to know the variety if you figure it out.

Curious why you don’t make your own compost from your table scraps and grass clippings?

+hedy watrous I live in a subdue an neighborhood where the homes are right against each other …. I love my neighbors too much to subject them to any additional rodent, insect, and/or smelly issues. But maybe some day when I have some more space!

I`ve had my St. Johnswort in the ground for 2 seasons now and I was told that they were shade lovers! I`ve been waiting for them to flower, I guess that I was told wrong.

I took a recommendation from the RUclips channel GardenAnswer and amend my clay soil with gypsum. I’m from Michigan and where I’m at I have to ask my hubby to dig holes as well (then try to find a place to dump it lol).

Cool, I love them in cut flower arrangements. Love the idea to grow your own. Have you ever tried working expanded shale into your clay? I'm also in North Texas, and I actually like my clay soil that's been amended. Less watering :)

I heard that St. John’s wort spreads so I haven’t planted one yet. I would like to hear from the ones that have it in the yard to see how bad it spreads.

    • @shesamadgardener

    Nice!
I'm interested to see just how big the St. John's Wort really gets!
I've got a good sized medicinal garden, and of coarse this one is on my list!
But I've just never gotten around to it.
It will be fun watching yours!
