- There is a hidden meaning behind the names of some of the new characters to the franchise. In Swahili, Zira, Kovu and Nuka mean words that link to the traits of their characters. Zira means “hate”, linking to her part as the villain of the movie. Kovu means “scar”, referring to his destiny as being Scar’s heir and also his similar appearance to the villain of the first movie. Nuka means “bad smell”, being a nod to how the character is seen as unwanted and annoying until his death later in the movie.

I mean with a name that translates to bad smell , you obviously can tell Zira had very little expectation of her son
Mufasa and Scar(Taka)'s names mean "king" and "garbage" respectively.
I wonder who the favorite was?
@@ablunt-headedtreesnake6094 hmmm and I wonder why scar turned out to be such a mean guy ???
@@mylittlebrony2130 it was actually explained in lion guard. Basically scar took down a villain who was betraying the entire Pride and all Mufasa was Pat him on the back and give him a new nickname scar. So he thought Mufasa was unfit to be king if that's how he treats his own brother.
@@guardiangacha9111 um thanks for the contacts but I was saying that sarcastically
@@ablunt-headedtreesnake6094 Taka also means 'want' in Swahili while translation of king is Mfalme.
And Vitani's name translates to "Demon of War" which shows how she was raised to be a soldier for those loyal to Scar.
She would later go off to be next Leader of Lion Guard.
Wait whos vitani
Oh now i know
@@heather_foreatherthe sister of Nuka and daughter of Zira.
@@heather_foreather oh, nevermind then. Glad you do, it's a good movie.
Well seeing as Scar’s actual name is “Taka” meaning “garbage” poor Nuka
acttualy it was change in Lion Guard where his names before Scar was Askari
@@kawa8149 no. Askari is a completely different character. Askari was the leader of the first lion guard. Scar is still Taka. Look it up at google. Askari has a completely different design.
@@mlpfanceline2420 yea Askari is a different character, but Scar was named after him, it was confirmed by the one of creator
@@kawa8149 okay than. I am still going to Name Scar Taka, if I am not using scar. I grew up with it and it fits him more than Askari
Actually Scar's real name "Taka" means "dirt"
Vitani: I’m not even here, I’m an illusion 👁👄👁
What does her name mean in Swahili?
@@animechic420 It's probably not fully accurate, but Google translated it to "in battle"
I was told it meant “demon of war.”
@@animechic420 if i remember correctly, it's an amalgamation of the names vita, meaning "war", and shetani, meaning "demon". so it roughly translates to "demon of war". the coolest one, in my opinion.
@@lilenwasnothere6867 that’s right- I think it goes well w her character seeing that she was practically the second in command to Zira and adds more depth to her switch over to Simba’s side at the end of the movie
Nuka's death scene is even sadder if your watch the deleted scene for it.
Just watched it. Not sure why they cut it out since it was only like 5 seconds. Would have really tugged at the heartstrings. And it would have made sense seeing as his last act was him calling out "mother, are you watching?" As he was going in for the kill.
@@clydewill2340 Indeed! It really added to the tragic family dynamic
@@clydewill2340 not to mention, Zira's death scene was a lot darker.
@@sleepytimesounds2689 idk, I thought Nuka's was sad because he just wanted to get out of Kovu's shadow and prove to his mom that he was a worthy son, and yet in the end he still failed and apologized to his mother with his last breath. Zira was just too stubborn to let go of her anger despite Kiara successfully convincing simba to give the outsiders forgiveness.
It ain’t sad, you get to watch Andy Dick die!
Vitani also means “Battle”. Honestly a lot of names in the lion king franchise as a whole mean things in Swahili it’s really cool
😒😒😒
After all, Lion King is an African cartoon
Originally her name was suppose to be Shetani but it meant " devil" so disney decided to change it , also Mufasa means " king" and Simba means "lion" in onr of dinsey books it was mentioned that Scar's birth name was Taka wguch means " trash " but in some other translations it also means " want"
Close it directly translates to Demon of War.
"In lion King 2"
Me: WHAT THERE IS ANOTHER ONE
Ong 💀
TLK2 has been out for over 20 years. How could you have missed that?
There is also Lion King 1 1/2, also called as Lion King 3
A sequel, a midquel, two television shows, a Broadway adaptation, a remake.... It's a big franchise 😂
@@alphaareus I think it's one of those straight to DVD sequels, and people...don't talk about those a lot-
Nuka’s death was PAINFUL.
"I'll do it for you, Mother! Mother, are you watching? I'm doing it for you...and I'm doing it for me!"
@@corrinbielawski8035 SOBS
So was his life
@@corrinbielawski8035his last words
Seriously!
Nukes death was sad .he only tried to please his mother
I see nuka as a non villain he just wanted his mothers love and trying to make her happy it kills him
Poor Nuka he was an awesome character
Plus he was a comic relief to
Nuka had to deal with being named that, treated horribly by his mother and then he died, nuka deserved better😔😔😔
Honestly felt bad for Nuka, and his death was sad
He’s Andy Dick lion, he deserved it.
HONESTLY though
He was one of my favorite characters.
Kiara means princess as well
Mhm which further puts an emphasis on her wanting to be more than just a princess
My favourite part of this movie was how much the characters made sure the audience knew that Kovu wasn't Scar's son
Then who was Kovu's father? They never establish that did they?
@@StuckonStupid84 It is unclear who Kovu's parents were, but there is a theory that Zira killed Kovu's true parents.
If Scar was his dad, then Kiara and Kovu would be related O-O
@@StuckonStupid84 Highly reccomend to watch the deleted scenes, they did outright mention him not being. Kovu: _"But he wasnt my father.."_ Zira: _"No, but he accepted you into being the next king!"_ As for who his dad is, we'll never know lol
He would Have been Nalas exiled cub along with Sarabis Sister, Zira to look after Him. Zira: Nala 🤔🙄😒. Nala: zira 😒🥱😑😲
I love when the money in the movie said to Kovou"HOW DARE YOU SAVE MY KIGS DAUTA"lol so funny.😂
zira basically named her kid lil shit 😂😭
I'm surprised that nuka doesn't mean "jealousy" because he is very jealous of kovi
Jealousy in Swahili is "wivu" so yeah...
I'm glad Simbas Pride is getting a bit of recognition.
Zira was also supposed to have the darkest death of a Disney villain. You know how when she dies she's smiling. This is not an animation mistake. Kiara is kindhearted and has learned that a good Queen doesn't banish those who are grieving entirely. She tries to save Zira from her fall. In the original script Zira says "no. Never" before purposefully letting herself fall to traumatize Kiara. Obviously even for a villain a character committing suicide was too dark
Kouv isn't related to scar and you will actually hear tht in the lion king 2 where nuka says " scar isn't even he's father he just took him in"
Lion males don’t take in lion cubs. If Kovu wasn’t Scars he would have 🪦it.
@@angelacooper8973 finally someone understands it !
Then why did Scar allow Kovu in and even named him his heir?
@@angelacooper8973 I mean, they kind of had to say he wasn't Scar's actual son since he's the love interest of Kiara since Scar is Simba's uncle. That would have made Kiara and Kovu cousins lmaoo
@@angelacooper8973Newsflash TLK isn’t a realistic adaptation of lion behavior.
Zira actually means "heart filled with hatered" It may saund simmiliar but the actual translation more represents Zira's goals as it represents her whish for revange
“IM DROPPING A NUKE!”
Some guy: “you said you smell bad?”
Nuke like nuclear weapons, and they stink, because of the chemicals that are in them bombs.
@@HuskyDog88 *Woosh* , there goes the meaning of the comment right over your head
And vitani means demon of war
I think you got all of those names wrong.
Don’t forget vitani! Her name means battle
I always felt bad for Nuka, all he wanted was to be accepted and make his mother proud of him, earn at least one time a praise from her and not always hear Kovu this and Kovu that. She only really saw him when he died.
Wait, Lion King lore isn't common knowledge? I thought everyone had a phase where they got weirdly invested in the franchise on DeviantArt.
P l s I went through this phase 😭 was about ready to riot when Kopa wasn't the main character of Lion Guard
Poor Nuka 😢
Wow. I looked up Vitani on Google translate, and found out it meant war. Then some people beat me to it. I am impressed so many people know about this Disney sequel.
I didnt even knew there was a lion king 2 💀
I just watched this last night with hot coca and popcorn
Lion king 2 is so under-rated
Simba means Lion
I seen all these throughout my childhood, so doesn't surprise me and I'm 24 and I've seen these when I was 14 to 5
Also Simba is Lion in Swahili
Am I the only one who gets very reminded of Warrior Cats?
Probably as this also inspired the fan animations?
Warrior cats? Try Thunder cats, the original series.
@@HuskyDog88 Bitch they ain’t nothin similar one is a cartoon and the other is a book series with 70+ books
@@HuskyDog88warrior cats is a book
Ngl, I had a crush on Kovu
Me not realising Nuka even if I speak the language🤦🏻♀️even with the song Hakuna Matata😭
Nuka and nuke sound similar. LOL
14 to 5 years of age I was watching this way before people even found out about this
All Swahili names had correct translations except for ZIRA
Zira means to reject sth because you're just disappointed rather than you'd have to
Chuki is a SWAHILI word that means hate in English
Thank you ❤️
It truly is a very interesting movie!
I did know known that at all!
And vitani means battle/war so there's also that
And Swahili is just a language, I find that funny.
I actually really loved kovu character and I did feel so bad for him 😢
JULEN Simba papá
Chica ZAR
Scar hates bad smell
And did you know 'Simba' means 'lion' in Swahili? Acknowledging the fact that Simba is truly a lion!
(le gasp)
Not exactly 'bad smell' but 'to smell bad'.
Nuka is like Zulu. Uya Nuka which means you smell.😊
Vitani= war, battle
Google translate used to be super unreliable (and still is) when I first got a phone and it told me mufasa mean cigarettes or cigars 💀
Edit:I don't think you understand what a miss translation is.
It means "king"
@@ECSOrder66 dude that had nothing to do with the statement I just thought it was funny I wasn't claiming it meant that I'm just saying it was funny, I know it means king you didn't need to state the obvious.
@@SudyCrumbz Oh, I wasn't correcting you, sorry I came off that way, I am well aware what a mistranslation is, I was making a statement for anyone that didn't know what the actual translation is. Because I know people will be like "That's the mistranslation, what's the actual translation though?" so I left that there for them. :)
And with Kiara, her name means "Princess" which goes well with the fact that she is the daughter of the king of pride rock, simba
Ok now. I feel atacked
Nuka is a child who wants what some children want to be noticed for something and appreciate by his mother I feel bad for him even if he wanted to king or something
HAH
HAH
I KNEW IT
KOVU IS SCARS SON
Actually Kovu isn't Scar's son it was clear twice throughout the film
Nuka means NUKES
Vitani is also the goddess of war
Shit, no wonder Im bitter. My name is translated to “hate” 😂
😂😅
I think it's a beautiful name 😊
I loved Nuka he was so childess
They done Nuka dirty! If I learned that my name meant doo-doo I’d remember that forever! FOREVER!
I mean, Kovus Scars adopted son from what i heard
My dog's name is Nuka. I agree.
Vitani: I’m non-existent. As I am not a meaning, but mah name translates t demon of war
Huh, I didn't know that. I even saw and had the film.
Also, when I looked up Kiaras name, her name means, light or clear, and I think thats very fitting conserdering what role she plays in the movie. ❤
Nuka means bad smell ouch
🤔 you missed Swahili but that’s lion if you wounder
Honestly with Nuka, I thought he was going to explode
Poor nuka lol
one of the only disney sequels that i like
I loved this movie as a kid
I watched this a while back with my nieces and didn't remember nuka dying lol
Sarabi is in love with kovu
“Bad smell btw he died”
Thats what i heard and i hated why you spoiled it
I know it really didn't need to be the video
Nuka, I think you and Meg would be best friends
Nuka actually means smell. But in the same way one can say you smell in English to mean one smells bad you can also say “unanuka” in Swahili to bring out the same meaning
Wow poor Nuka 😂
“Nuka means-“
*Japan 8/6/1945*
Fun fact Vitani was originally going to be called Shetani which means Demon in Swahili but they shortened it to Vitani for it to make more sense
Also Kiara’s name means Princess in Swahili
Also in Swahili, Simba directly translates to "lion", Mufasa to "king" and Kion to "leader"
Lol no one cares about Kion
@goomba8170 you did enough to comment, get over it man
Kovu and Vitani are the only good ones from that evil and crazy family 😂
man just spoiled a whole movie that I didn’t even know about
Interestingly enough it doesn't spoil the whole movie I definitely recommend that you still check it out
Bro just spoiled the whole movie for me
Since when did they make Lion King 2? How did I miss this?
if kovu and scar are related, isn’t kovu related to kiara?
You just released a spoiler to anyone that hasn’t seen it lol. Luckily I have, but still. For anyone wondering, there’s Lion King, Lion King 1 1/2, and Lion King 2.
I didn't know there was a lion king 2
I didnt know this movie existed
Me naming all my ice elementals words like snow, ice, glacier etc in Greek
You guys realize they’re related because scar is Mufasa‘s brother and Mufasa‘s kid is Simba and Simba‘s kid is I don’t know her name so scars child would be Like I think like a third cousin something around there is nobody gonna talk about that
Simba actually has two kids: Kiara as featured in the movie, and Kion as featured in The Lion Guard series.
Yup I know this for years, I am actually studying Swahili
Nawwwwww. you figured that out yourself?😂
I have not seen this movie nor have I heard of it being out
Nuka...hmmm, anyone up for a bottle of Nuka-Cola?
Nah I prefer Skooma
And pumbaa mean stupid and im not joking pumbaa actually dose mean that well that what google says when i look up what it mean
She named him scar because she wanted him to be king.
Bro seriously forgot about Kiara
