What is your favourite tips? I think the "scanning the terrain" is something that can help people a tone! Make sure to subscribe and you can make your purchases on Jenson using this link: bit.ly/39xojyn
Staying tall as well helps me a lot so that I can be relaxed and save energy where I can, and also so that I can see what's coming (is it a roll, is it a drop, etc.)
Looking where you want to go and keeping your eyes on the terrain ahead instead of the obstacle you are currently riding is so key. Also the word you want is "ton" as in 2000lbs. Tone is a sound. 😁
After watching your Video with your neighbor I practice a lot of brake control and that gave me so much confidence. Thanks for that and the tips in this Video. Great!
I feel like the MTB community in Canada is so accepting of new riders, I wish it was the same here in Poland (where I feel like a twit most of the time for asking the simple questions). Super content Remy, you are very eloquent which in itself is 150% confidence boosting!
THIS! Illustrating how inclusive the MTB community is here in Canada. Everyone I have met on the trails is always super nice and helpful. Great job, Remy, in doing your part to help grow the sport! These women are great riders, and with such a short time riding, they show great confidence and skill! KUDOS, Ladies!
Yeah I was really surprised to hear that one of them was only mtn biking for about a year and the other one... 3 months!!! Wow, good skills and confidence like you said! :O
These are my favourite kinds of videos! I hear your voice inside my head when I approach features and always find your teachings easy to understand! Thank you 🙏
Thanks so much, Remy for the ride in Squamish. First time biking there and so amazing to be able to do those rock slabs with your help around which lines to take and how to approach them. It'll be great to take those tips and apply them to other trails and features too!
You guys did awesome! Took me two years to tackle that last steep rock face in the video. Next time you're in the area - definitely check out Leave Of Absence trail, it's right next to Rupert, a little bit easier, but a ton of fun. It feels like a smaller brother of Rupert.
You riding with beginners or '"normal" riders really makes me relate more to the steepness of the terrain you are riding. Line choice and practice are key! More of those kind of videos please.
Really good stuff Remy, I immediately forwarded this to a male friend who is new to the sport and fearing everything. Hopefully seeing these women new to the sport will give him some motivation.
Of all of your video's of insane, death-defying, super-human, high-flying trails, this was one of your best. To see these ladies progress down this difficult trail was inspiring. You are a fantastic coach - and great job ladies!
Remy, this is some of the best content yet!!! As an experienced person of color rider I’m constantly thinking about what it means to be inclusive and I stress so much about how to share my knowledge with friends old and new so we can have a much more diverse community that embraces and welcome everyone in the lands that we have all been having the privilege to ride in. Bravo, Remy👏🏽 and amazing job to everyone with Colour the Trails, I love your mission! Wish we had something like that in the Bay Area, CA!!!!!
@@choanlpoto Some people are intimidated to participate in an activity when they don't see anybody like them also doing it. Not everybody is like this, but some are. It's not a complicated concept.
I had a chance to ride Rupert for the first time this season. I think it's the best introduction to black squamish trails. The features are all pretty manageable, especially when riding with a local who can demonstrate the lines, and it really helped me build the confidence for more slab riding. Awesome to get to relive my experience through these women's eyes, they're absolutely crushing it!
This is amazing! Respect and much love to all the skilled riders that give regular riders the time of day! I'm impressed with these women and their progression. I am at that level and seeing them face their fears and do these awesome features is motivating!
@Remy Metailler Awesome content -- You're a natural teacher. I used to tell my kids when we went skiing or mountain biking, if everyone makes it home with smiles, then it was a great day and from the reaction, they all had a great day..
Awesome Video! You just advanced their riding skills so much! Awesome to see new riders together, having a great time! Not to mention helping Color The Trails with their organization's mission, and helping them build confidence, a skill all young people need!
The videos you make of the crazy difficult stuff are really awe inspiring but I really appreciate these too. Not only is there a lot for people like me to learn from in them, but I also really like your willingness to teach folks with less experience and the way you do so. Nice work!
As a beginner rider, this video was great. Not only was it amazing to see these riders go for it on these features and make huge progress, but watching you ride the same features really illustrates the large and small differences between novice and expert. The video with your neighbor was helpful in a similar way even though he is more advanced. Mountain bike RUclips instructional content is all over the map with how it treats technique, and your focus on very specific habits like standing tall, reading terrain, anticipating compressions and opening lines/corners has been immediately useful to me on the trails even though I make tons of mistakes.
Absolutely fabulous coaching Remy! Taking into account the runout after the feature is my favourite tip. Features are part of a bigger flow and learning to ride a feature as part of its bigger flow helps me with confidence.
@@Biggirlsneedlovingtoo mainly the price barrier on getting a bike, but also many people don't live near trails, so they need to get there by car or train first
Amazing video. Loved seeing how everyone took the tips and progressed using them - all the ladies absolutely crushed it! Definitely going to be rewatching this before I head out next time. My favourite tip was the fact that we should practice/session features many times in order to progress in the best way.
Just awesome Remy! So cool to see how a gnarly dude like u 😁 teaches that good! Relaxed, polite👌 To me the best tip is "look ahead" look where u r going and in case your backwheel starts to slide, just release the break! Gamechanger 4 me! Great video dude!👏
Another inspirational video Remy! Loved the coaching and encouragement that resulted in the progression and confidence of the riders. And the way this is promoting inclusivity to the sport. Amazing that some of the riders had only being riding for such short lengths of time and had the confidence to ride some of the features. They all looked super stoked! Nice one chief!
@Remy a massive thank you for this and the previous video (actually all your videos) because I rode trails on Seymour in north Vancouver with more confidence, faster and safer by your advice of standing up and also putting my bike down to walk and evaluate the features that scared me. I broke my wrist badly two years ago and forced and struggled to get back on the bike. You have given this 40-something year old confidence and enjoyment again with your very consumable videos. I now trust these amazing bikes to bring us to the bottom of the hills safely.
Wow, you're such a great teacher! You are able to explain the mechanics very well. Next time you roll through Utah, I'd love to get some tips to get myself back into enduro races.
Cool to see their confidence grow through the video while they ride things beyond their comfort level... the one lady with only 3 months riding already on Rupert, good progression!
Oh man, all I can say is I wish I could someday take lessons in real life from you. Great job, really appreciate the effort put in to show others how to tackle some more challenging riding for them. Thank you, Remy
That was awesome Remy!!! helping those ladies out and supporting their group is top notch. Plus the tips will help me on some features here in Colorado and New Mexico
Thanks for the video Remy. I recently moved over to MTB after 20 years as a roadie. I learnt a load from your video today which is appreciated after I recently # my wrist in a crash from a front wheel washout down a steep decent.
This literally gave me the warm fuzzies! I LOVED this Remy! Their progress was mind-blowing, and it shows how great of a coach you are! 👏 One tip I think that was missed, especially in regards to the movement of leaning back and pushing forward going down steep features: I've noticed with a lot of women they don't seem to take advantage of the dropper post enough and have their seats too high while trying to maneuver steep descents. The one girl that was having trouble with that before she went down that second off-camber rock slab - I feel if she just lowered her seat all the way first she would have been able to get that extra mobility.
Lots of women have shorter legs and their seat post don't offer enough adjustment especially on entree level enduro bike. On the other hand the One Up Components for example comes in all sizes and has super tiny design which is especially great for shorter riders. That's what I use.
Love this thank you Rémy. I took a few friends down Rupert a couple of weeks ago and was going through a lot of these steps with them. Feels good to be kind of validated in the feedback and knowledge I passed on to them in hearing you saying the same to these ladies. Also I rode past you guys on the last feature you filmed this day, but I didn't make the final cut apparently. ;D
Awesome content, that was so helpful to watch! I'm wanting to progress to riding more Black trails this summer and trying features like these for the first time, so will definitely be keeping these tips in my mind as I do. I'm super jealous of how friendly Squamish rock faces are though. The ones here to learn on are so rugged and often with more rocks sticking out at the bottom, I have massive OTB fears getting caught up on them. Those women and that organisation are awesome too, love what they do. Thanks for getting involved with and sharing the different communities you have there.
Great video I love the process of breaking up a trail into its features and getting each part dialed its a great way to learn and also can make the trail more interesting as it gives you a chance to try other lines. Good video. I would love to see you do a video about what I have the most trouble with and that is cornering. Every one says the same thing usually of lean the bike, stay centered to keep the weight on the tires as it leans, and point the knees. Every once in awhile you hear about compressing the fork and putting pressure into it to make the turn and it's usually glossed over. When am I supposed to be doing this and how much? The main area where it starts to become an issue is with fast connecting turns and linking them together. I feel like I am never ready for the next one.
