When me and my buddies started getting into freeriding in the late 90s and early 00s, Wade was our hero. One afternoon when one of us got bootleg copies of Kranked 1-4 (because we were all students and broke as hell) we must've had those videos playing 24-7 all summer, every summer. We'd get stoked watching Wade do awesome lines, impossible trials from Ryan Leech.. they all inspired us to do crazy shit in our neck of the (urban) woods. My hero.
i was 74 and was still dropping in on the North Shore [ easier ones like Floppy Bunny etc ] but did CBC, and a few others up on Whistler [ did a lobotomized drop on 'Joyride' aaaacckkkk ! ] Loved Burnaby Mt; and and my fav was Mach Chicken between Gibsons and Sechelt [ def had some bash ups but absolutely loved it all ] BUT, had 4 strokes AFTER i stopped riding [ sold my tricked out Transition Bottle Rocket, and with no exercise to burn all the sweets and crap carbs i was eating i had 4 Minor strokes from clogged arteries - anyway, managed to heal myself with change of diet and Nutraceutical supplements - the Pharmaceuticals work quickly but are absolute crap for long term and creates more of the same and worse problems - if i could afford to i would ride now at 78 with very little issues [ i did buy an Ebike but not a DH Ebike [ yuck ] so...i can dream ] meantime, thank you Wade for the memories [ i do have a few videos somewhere on RUclips and Facebook...
Loving these pick-a-parts with Wade...but man I would love to see another comical commercial someday soon too! Wade is hilarious when he's 'acting' in ads. Anyways, thanks Race Face MTB for putting these together.
I'm 44 and been riding MTB off and on since I was 13 .. these vids are INSANE. Already learned 2 things 10 mins in! Wades knowledge and skills are Great! Amazing to see him still have the passion after all these years. Loved watching him NWD and Anthill Films! #godfatheroffreeride :)
Have fun but don’t take unnecessary risks. Build your skill set up slowly and attack features with confidence, there’s no shame in giving something a miss if you’re not feeling it that day. If you can’t visualise yourself doing it then just leave it until you are ready. I’m slightly younger than you but definitely found I don’t bounce as well or heal as quick as I used to! 😂
Classic Simmons video, can listen to him for hours. Clean techinc. Always impressed on how a good suspension is fundamental to sustain your skills. Great video as always! I will Pay gold to ride with him!
Great to see a how-to video from a long time shredder who actually understands what he's doing. can't emphasize enough about staying neutral over the bike. too many riders hang off the back and get bucked as a result and I've been calling it out for years now...
Great video, definitely one of the better ones on drop technique. BTW, I use the same demo/analogy when I teach of hopping off a curb or ledge without the bike on how the kinesiology(human movement) is the same.
Can remember one fall night at the Cove bike shop (1990s) Wade was putting on a handle bar on a new bike I was picking up. No one else was in the shop that night so we had a good talk and he told me that a free riding film was premiering at a club that night and if possible I should go watch. He was in it and was hoping this free riding thing would take of in the bike scene.
I always felt sketchy when I dropped, so I started looking to improve my technique. Many video-views later, I still felt sketchy. Then I saw this one. It clicked in my head and it clicked for me out on the traisl. Thanks for posting this!
Really helpful! I've been compressing to lift the front but not pushing it out as much, its nice to roll in slowly and lift the front rather then come if fast and count on momentum to keep the front end up, especially when the ride in isn't exactly straight, nothing quite like the terror of hang-time thats more then you expect, 1/2 a second can feel like forever when you end up going deeper then you'd planned!
I love how in the "spotting the landing" section at the crater Wade almost runs over the hapless jogger at the end of the landing! Thanks for keeping that in the edit! It happens!
Nicely Done Wade, simple and to the point! Was epic fun getting in some sendz with you in Arkansas at the Hollow, Interplanet Janet. Saw that you rode with Justice too, he’s a smasher! Have to come to Vancouver!
look like so simple say like this, sooner or later I will have to teach that to my kids however I don't have it. if you want prove the theoretical, I will be so pumped to be teach by a legend
Geometry really does matter. The technic is basic. Not saying what you're doing is basic or anything but, you get the point. I have a old XC geo: 69° head 73° seat angle Giant maestro suspension, what's your bike geometry or should I say what do you recommend for this type of enduro ride?
Never been a big drop off guy meaning never a fan of and as well, the "Big" drops. Riding and racing a lot of XC in my early days (90's) just now getting back into it in my late 50's HAHA never too old right?....but noticing the trails are now a little more technical and bigger drops and with my 26er full suspension bike, it's getting the shit beat out of it....looking at a C30 Element but until then, these drops won't be so intimidating and ride-able as well.Hell if I'm going off anything higher than a meter ! ....I'm older and don't bounce or heal like I used to.....But at least I know how too now Thanks !! \m/
lower ladies only at the very end, it exits onto Mountain Highway just after the yellow gate you drive past on your way to the parking lot (on your left).
Love how you compare jumping from a kerb is no different on a bike! Other video by the time they are finished explaining a jump by the position of your feet, arms, leg, wind direction, soil humidity, Weetbix v porridge for breakfast...you end up going 'yeah...but nah'' ! It take some serious ''big nuts'''to jump in a forest. I don't have a dog, how can l protect myself from the squirrels?
Bummer Wade. You cut us off in your car. Then you thought you would insult my brother and I. I have not missed a year riding North Vancouver since 84.5.. And by the way my brother Andy was in a serious crash July 17...he does not do drugs like you suggested he is recovering from a brain injury...Brutal. Something about matching jackets?
Love this mentality! "You're human. You go down stairs. You jump off of picnic tables." 🤘
More please!

This is the first drop video that I've see that actually explains the correct technique and actually demos it on a sizeable drop. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!

The Godfather nails it!! Always a treat to watch him ride!
Glad I found this channel man. I'm 53 y.o and picked up my first mtb (hardtail) 2 days ago, so I have a lot to learn!
Welcome aboard the mtb pedal party train! Have fun out there!

Wade’s videos are so good! He presents the skills in a way that give you the confidence that you can do it too.

Did my first decent sized drop today after watching this video. Thanks!!

He is the godfather of mtb for a reason.

Best Mtb video on drops I’ve seen !! Good stuff
Thank you so much to Wade and the race face team. This is the best explained instruction on how to do big drops.
Loving this series as well. Wade does a great job breaking things down and explaining in relatable ways. Also, he's clearly just a good dude.
One of the best that can explain in such good sense to the normal riders.... thanks Wade!
I'm only navigating urban streets but somehow I feel I will use this. Terrific video!

Glad you liked it!
One of the best things on the Internets... thanks Godfather
I love how in the "spotting the landing" section at the crater Wade almost runs over the hapless jogger at the end of the landing! Thanks for keeping that in the edit! It happens!
Good point!
What a Legend. Awesome teaching video. Can't believe you are still sending it like that. Sweet my dude.🤙🏻
🤙

Love it, recently started doing bigger drops. Thanks for the tips Wade!!
Legendary! Thanks Wade!
I hit the Scapulator last fall! Went for the "tactical case" approach. About as big as I'll ever attempt.
I'd take Wade on all my rides if I could! :D
Great clip!!! Thank's a lot 😎👍🏽it's perfekt to make my jump's better 🙌🏽 Cheers
great training on starting small, learn principals and then move up using the same skills.
Love this guy! Thanks for the info, first mtb and I’m hooked. Love the community
Wow this is great. Thank you.
Yes! Another great vid. Thanks!🙏
Inspired by your explanations and videos. True rider bro
Wade that drop video is banging 🔥 👌🏾
Dude kinda feels like the bob ross of mountain biking. That was sweet
Well he is the Bob Ross. The Godfather of FREERIDE and all.
Don’t speak of the Godfather like that.
@@baxterjackson1603 Bob Ross is god tier. It’s a compliment if anything 🫡

Awesome lesson

Wow Wade! Remember him from the early Kranked videos in the late 90s
Great video.

Awesome vid, love the trail puppy. What camera set up are you using? looks great.

Thanks and subscribed ❤
Thanks for subbing!
Is there any pick-a-part logo stuff like tshirts, hoodie etc. available ? I love the vibe of this series!
Ya, it’s called RaceFace
We'll have a chat with the Godfather and maybe we can get something in the works... 😉
It’s good information
nice trail friend
Thanks for pumping our tires... I'm still a nope on that. ha
Hi, nice vid. Do you think you would do those drops on flats? 😲
What a Legend. Would be Grate to Hit the trails with hin 👍🚵
Great Video Wade. Made that last one look easy! its definitely not. Cheers

I get scared by drops where the takeoff fades away or rolls downwards a bit instead of being a straight continuation of the lead up.
Wade, are you running the bomber with a coil or air spring?
Wades been loving the Z1 Coil on the Slayer, believe he runs extra firm spring ;)
@@RaceFaceMTBtv for those big hits!
Hello everyone. What helmet?
Maybe this is why I instinctively find drops easy to do. I'm a nut that is always either climbing or jumping off of things and I never grew up😂
Hi, how do you tine your z1? Did you follow the base tube? I have z1 170mm can find the right tune, 80k with riding gears
10 feet? Aren't you from Canada?
yeah but he is old enough he was raised on inches and feet - we don't need metric EXACT proportions unless we are building a rocket to the moon :-)
pristine dirt. lol. this guy rules
should have had a set of 2006 Marzocchi drop off forks for this video
what trail is the crater at the bottom of? that looks fun. heading out there this weekend!

you guys need to make some flat pedal shoes!
Are you sponsored to ride the bomber fork and shock?
Im confused just watched Rich Drew’s method to do drops which seems at odds with this one. Any guidance welcome!
Which part?
is that 27.5 or 29 Slayer? thank you.
OMG!
Great vid, but knowing what speed to go off the bigger gap drops is what scares me off
5'10 what size bike is that? Reach = ?
That curb needs a proper session
Classic! 😂
Nice calm explanation of each drop without any matcho geezer crap.. Put the man on telly.. Flat landing =speed..
Glad you liked it!
God damn Canadians! Oh Yah, oh ho ho
If new to drops, this is great. But strongly recommend this followup from Fluidride: ruclips.net/video/d20ISxtBAvg/видео.html

Why is the crater looks so tiny in this Video. That sh1t is the size of a house in person.
Its true!
Wade is totally washed
