    Darkwood is a top-down, oldschool survival horror set in a procedurally generated, open world. It features RPG and roguelike elements, with intense combat and a eerie atmosphere. It's developed by 3 people from Poland, who like to call themselves Acid Wizard Studio, and is currently in pre-alpha stage.

    I really love the idea of locking yourself away in a small shack and having the lights on as it really builds up the tension when you see the cone of light open up due to one of the doors being opened in another room, that bit there sent chills up my spine and definitely made this a buy for me!

    I just have to say these trailers are very impressive and the work you guys are doing and that this title shows so much promise. Even watching these trailers I felt a sense of dread and tension as you traversed the surprisingly dark environments just trying to figure out where exactly you even were at that point in time. It's creepiness factor is through the roof and coupled with the RPG, defensive oriented gameplay it really helps it make the player feel truly alone. I wish you guys the best!

    That and we're so used to audio queues to help us in anticipating that something big is coming - whereas this music keeps its neutrality, keeping the player on their toes not knowing what's next. Ooh. Goosebumps. *shivers*

    God that music's incredible. Instead of trying to sound "scary" by being sudden, loud, and obnoxious to get a cheap jump out of the player it builds tension to actually help the scene be suspenseful. I hope there's more.

    Literally my only complaint about what fantastic stuff I've seen so far: Make those gunshots violent and real. Every shot should startle, cracking through the silence/ambiance, and add a weight to each and every shot that instills a palpable sense of loss of a vital survival resource: Rounds of ammo. And, if course, in the case of the haunted ring as we see here, panicked blindfiring will sound like utter chaos until that inevitable click of a hammer striking nothing,

    This comment, it just hits home. Companies need targets for their games not audiences. Bring back the hardcore, the complexity, the dedication and the skill to gaming. No more dumbing things down to appeal to all.

    Piotrek to był pomysł Artura - to on ogarnia wizualną stronę Darkwooda, jak i muzykę ;). Po przesłuchaniu kawałka ścianki od razu nam się to spodobało. Jesteśmy zaskoczeni, że ktoś odnalazł tą inspiracje.. to niesamowite :) PZDR!

    Was a bit skeptical of a survival-horror game with a top-down perspective but...this looks really awesome and surprisingly scary. Didn't think you could build that much tension when you're so far pulled back from the character (not FP or 3rd person over-shoulder) but this looks to have done a great job with it. Great sound design as well.

    Easier "optional" features sound great but they don't always work as intended. Sure you can manually travel by foot everywhere in the later Elder Scrolls games without utilizing the fast travel feature, but when you're caught with only 30 minutes to play a game in between classes, work, ect. Those of us who might detest the use of the optional features sometimes waver and fail in our dedication to avoid using them and ultimately break down just to save a few minutes or to push past a tough boss.

    All the little stuff. Creating a trail of gasoline that you can light on fire, moving furniture to block doors, and none of it has that stupid "Press button to do this" thing. This is going to be a fun game, regardless of if it's actually scary or not(please be scary).

    There should be more difficulty option! One where ammo is rare, or damage is double, or monster can take more hits, or monster spawn more often. Or the other way around.

    I think that what you're looking for is a different type of game. There are games I play for the experience, and there are games I play for the challenge. I see no problem playing a game like CoD or Tomb Raider on an easier difficulty because I want the experience that it has to offer- story, environment, etc. The drive comes from the artistic angle But games like this, the gameplay is motivated from the challenge, as well as that. That's why games like FTL or Super Meat Boy are so replayable.

    The gameplay looks sweet!The graphic isn't that bad actually,obviously you can't compare this with high graphic games like Battlefield but still,for a new/small game developer,this game is sweet!

    Where the game lets you take control and doesn't have scripted AI spawning, you don't need to change the difficulty, but games that have weaknesses in the core mechanic, you do need to cheat unless you want to spend 5x the time playing it.
    But also offering multiple levels of difficulty cheapens the experience because it allows you to just switch over anytime.
    The game mechanics should never end up being unfair, just realistic so you have to plan and get skilled for them.

    My point is, simply by including the ability to lessen the difficulty, the developers are making the product as a whole cheaper and more weak. Thats my opinion on the subject and you have your own also. We're both entitled to that. I for one would just like to see a return to the mandatory level of skill games used to require. Even if it is only in a niche market for those few of us that remain.

    Almost all survival horror games are mindless FPS, where everything you have to do is shooting down some zombies or running away from the Slenderman. But this game is definitely more a strategy-like game. And after watching the 2:19 and its effect... I know the Darkwood will be a great game. Dobra robota. :)

    holy shit.... I watched this without volume in broad daylight and it still left me with my heart pounding. I didn't even have it on full screen! at first I thought this game was going to be another silly attempt at the laughable prospect of 2D horror. Now it's actually proved itself just how capable the acid wizards truely are.... WTF my heart is STILL going!

    Great atmosphere! But im seems the flares are abit useless to be thrown away. They could great a small circle of visibility where they thrown to. It looks great

    I think it would also be interesting if they ditched a heap ammo system and did it by clip kind of like ghost recon. It would force more conservative and strategic reloads and individual bullet use. You could have a maximum number of clips you are able to carry (maybe even starting with one, limiting your capacity) and when not in combat you could consolidate what ammo you have left down to one clip etc. Just an idea.

    If you can choose the difficulty and make it easier then you inherently flaw the game's core mechanic. Its a top-down survival horror game, not a 5 minute time waster like Call of Duty. And as for its difficulty; overcoming and mastering the skills needed to survive make it gratifying.

    To put it another way: I'm curious as to whether violence is the only route to success or whether the spirits/monsters/whatever-is-going on can be appeased.
    Talking to the monsters is a reference to Edge/E7's 1994 review of Doom ;) : "lf only you could talk to these creatures, then perhaps you could try and make friends with them, form alliances… Now, that would be interesting."

    For one, I don't believe there IS an endgame. This game is a rougelike that you're not supposed to really finish, you're just supposed to play for fun. And just because 99% of games let you choose doesn't mean this one has to.

    It looks amazing! I'm not sure about the direction though? There seems to be a healthy focus on dialogue and atmosphere, but the solution in this trailer seems to suggest a violent route is often required. So, to put the question in short form: Will we be able to talk to the monsters?
    P.S. I've been working on a quite similar game myself, so it's really great to see someone else recognise the potential of top-down (first-person?) horror.

    Now that you mention it, there do seem to be some Lovecraftian elements in the game. Insanity was a big part of that kind of horror.

    Is the game at all influenced by the works of H.P. Lovecraft? The hive mind thing the character comes across and the apparently insane rocket man point greatly in that direction. And I love it.

    So what if Co-op "ruins" the horror? I'm playing this game mainly for the survival feature. I couldn't give much less of a fuck about how scary it is. I like enjoying survival games with friends. It makes the experience much better.
