I traveled solo in Vietnam in 2016 as well. I found the "foreigner hunt" very useful, any time I felt I could use some company I would sit at a central spot doing nothing and in less than 5 mins someone would approach me to chit chat. I even got interviewed for a school project. The only time my masterplan failed was when I sat in a square and I got pulled by a lovely Viet grandma to dance-excersize instead 😂
similar experience I did different times during my travels in Samarkand [in Uzbekistan], where a language institut is... and local students want make practise in English/ German/ French/ Chinese/ Korean/ etc. languages
Yeah, I also did that in Iran 😋 With the difference that I had to pull a lonely planet or something since I could pass for local by appearance and that most people just wanted to chat with a foreigner, it was't that much about practicing the language

That's a great story. Glad you 2 found each other. My wife and I started emailing completely by accident. She and her co-teacher were looking at Yahoo profiles. She thought nothing about it afterward. But she left her email, and the co-teacher used her school email to email me. Neither of us knew what was going on. But we started emailing. That was in 2000. She had asked her mother what to do about it and she said to practice her English. Well as the years went on a pen pal became a friend, then respect and then loved. I went to the Philippines in 2009 to propose and she excepted. But it was a LONG engagement. I wasn't in a financial position to bring her to the U.S.. But in 2018 she was invited to a 21st century educational conference sponsored at Harvard. She had co-wrote a paper about teaching children in different languages. It was accepted. So in Nov 2018 she came for a visit. She met my parents and they loved her. We got the immigration paperwork started in Jan 2019 before she had to return home. The story of how you met is so sweet and beautiful ❤ My husband and I actually met when I was about 8 months pregnant and didn't think that anyone would connect with me but he was also a single teenage parent and about a week after I had my daughter we were set up on a blind date and have basically never been apart since, we have our 3 daughters, one he had, one I had and one we had together and we just celebrated our 15 year wedding anniversary at the end of March. You never know what life will give you and I'm so grateful that I got to meet my husband. My wife is from Italy and I am English. We met on the second day of the camino de santiago and fell in love. The mind boggles when i consider all the different variables that were involved in us getting together. Best walk of my life!
Only recently started watching this channel but I LOVE how much you respect German Boyfriend’s privacy preferences while still being able to make your videos! Seems like you two have a super healthy and communicative relationship :)
I was so surprised when I travelled in Vietnam and was approached by strangers on the street saying they wanted to practice English. After so many people approaching trying to sell some goods or service, I was weary the first few times, but I eventually realized the people really did just want to chat. And now I wish other countries with language barriers between locals and tourists had this friendly trend.
when I traveled Japan with friends, we got approached so much by people that wanted to chat. Some even had German-classes and hear we are German so they just walked with us 2 blocks to practice small talk in German XD it was crazy since before the vacation every travelguide said its hard to get along with english and that the people there are mostly shy. But I guess RUclips and the Internet changed a lot :D
I met my German boyfriend when we both worked in China & were staying at the same hotel. We met in the hotel restaurant at dinner time - we both originally wanted to have room service but decided not to & go to the restaurant. We got to talking & we're still together 😊 Like you, I often wonder what would have happened if we both or one of us ate in our hotel rooms. I thank God everyday for him, like you & your boyfriend. Congrats on your upcoming wedding! Love from Singapore! I love your videos!
That old ass grandpa is craving for Asian bitches who are gold diggers, all these western men go to Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines for young women hunting.
Wow, what a cute story! It's crazy how serendipitous meeting your future spouse seems to be. Goes to show that being open to stepping out of your comfort zone and doing something new can really bring unimaginable changes to your life. The fact that students try to hunt down tourists to talk to is so funny and wholesome to me! If someone approached me like that in a foreign country I might think I was being scammed or robbed or something but I'm glad your fiance agreed to talk with your group and that your relationship worked out
depending on the country ,yes. In india and middle eastern countries, and certain african countries, the chances of getting scammed/conned is 110 % unfortunately. Even regular indians are so scammy in "regular" equations,it's crazy. Indians from the dominant races there ie
idk why but hearing stories like yours makes me so happy?? it feels so real, genuine especially in the world of internet where there are very few real things. truly glad you two found each other😊
I love it. Poor German Boyfriend, feeling lonely in Hanoi. It was so brave of him to go alone, I can't imagine! I think God was determined to get him there and then had to fill his room with cockroaches so he was forced outside to meet you! Filled two cautious people with all the energy and bravery they needed to make it happen. Congratulations! I love the brown bear holding the panda bear picture in the background. So sweet, just like you two.
The cockroaches were the matchmakers of this epic love story. Who knew cockroaches could do such good? If his room hadn’t been full of vermin, he would’ve stayed in and they never would’ve met. Unfortunately the flying Asian cockroaches that infested my Japanese apartment never did anything so sweet for me.
my mom would always book us mediocre hotels when traveling as kids. She says that if you have a 5 star hotel with super fluffy beds and TV with 29999 channels, you wont want to go out and explore.
I have a similar story on how I met my wife in Malaysia. I'm from Europe as well, and we can relate to your videos so much. It's fun to see that we are going through the same experiences as far as cultural differences go. Only in our case, I decided to move to Malaysia and not the other way around.
I'm a Malaysian girl and really want to marry a westerner or european but there's so little in my university. I wonder if I go study abroad 1 year in the UK, I can meet the one. What do you think? I'm doing a Creative Writing course, def no westerner if going to transfer to Malaysia to study english. I'm in archery club. The UK one is indoor unlike the nice outdoor one in Malaysia but other than that, UK is nice
I want to eventually live in New Zealand, UK, Scotland or a European country permanently too, I'm not attached to Malaysia because I spent half of my life outside of it
Your story is just as delightful as you are! I’m so glad you two met and that German Boyfriend is more comfortable speaking on camera. He’s adorable and so are you!
I met my husband in a similar way; we were both traveling and met in a hostel in London! We traveled for a few days together, then kept in touch long distance until we could move to be together. ❤️ I love travel romances like this! ☺️

Me too. I am European and met my South American husband in Ireland where we both attended the same summer school. We clicked in the first 5 minutes we spoke each other. Been together for 22 years now, 17 of those married.
What a wonderful, heartwarming story- it’s amazing how you two managed to connect despite the language barrier (it can be challenging getting to know someone with beginner phrases). BTW your English is excellent (when I went to Vietnam I was terrible At Vietnamese as it’s predominantly tonal based). You could obviously both sense each others inner hearts.
As a German who emigrated to Canada as a baby, I often wondered what my life would be like if my parents made the decision to stay in Germany. Being a German who hasn't been to Germany (true - until I was 45yo), I see how different the Germans are from what I know even though there are so many similarities. Living with my parents was like being in "little germany" within Canadian culture. I find your comparison videos so funny and with you I somehow explore Germany and Germans vicariously with you! Thank you for your videos xo
So cute... you guys were meant to be together! He went out of his comfort zone by traveling alone and you went out of yours by approaching strangers. A higher power compelled you both to step out of your regular lives to meet eachother. Definitely soulmates! Also, do all Germans grab their Swiss-Army knives before getting on a plane to travel? 😂
I just found it funny when "German Boyfriend" got up from his desk, picked up his passport, wallet and Swiss-Army knife like that's all he needs 😂 I rarely see anyone carrying Swiss-Army knives
You truly were meant to meet. ❤ I find it interesting that you both had to get out of your comfort zone to find each other. It kind of makes me believe in love a little more. :)
Hi Uyen! My boyfriend and I watch your videos all the time! And we're so happy we found you because we relate to you so much! I'm also from SE Asia, and I met my German bf online while playing boardgames. We met during the peak of covid, and had a LDR since. Then last year, when covid died down a bit, he visited me, and this year, we're working on me getting to visit him. And we're also looking forward to tying the knot when everything is taken care of (we're just doing it one step at a time). Which is why my bf would always share with me your videos because it's like seeing myself in the future! Lol
Ohhhh...I'm from Berlin and I traveled the world last year alone (as a woman) and in Vietnam I've had the same experience in a garden twice. A group of students asked me if they can practice their English. They where so shy an cute. It was very nice.
I met my husband on tinder while on a 2 year work visa in NZ. When you talked about how if either one of you had done one small thing differently you would have never have met, it really resonated with me. One swipe right on an app while traveling changed my life forever. It's crazy to think about, I loved hearing your story.
I thought you would say you met at school or something but this story was so unexpected and much more romantic! Everything was just meant to be 💖 thanks for sharing
I love your story! The face filter beginning is actually kind of fitting as its such fairytale, dream- come-true feeling to it. Tears of happiness for you. ❤
Hi Uyen, I am from Singapore and it is very nice to hear your super sweet story because that is how i met my English boyfriend in Luang Prabang in 2019! We stayed in the same hostel and started chatting at breakfast. We spent time in Laos and Bali and each went back to our own country and successfully made our 3 years long distance relationship worked. I just got my UK work visa this week and this time we are trying to stay in the same city for good! 😆🥰
I respect his privacy and am SO PROUD of German Boyfriend!! He's so adorable and I love that he feels comfy setting those boundaries!! Y'all are so cute and I'm so happy you get to enjoy each other's wonderful presence 🥺💜
Love you for being intelligent, funny and so down to earth. Much love to the two of you, best of luck with your exam! And I can't hardly wait for part 2!
I have probably commented on a RUclips video 5 times in the last decade, but I wanted to let you know that I found you on Facebook and love your videos! You are very charming and funny, and I'm really jealous at your language skills. Definitely my new favorite social media person, and I am not really one who watches videos! I have a hard time watching and listening at the same time (I cannot read comic books because I forget to look at the pictures). You use a lot of spoken language and tell stories in your videos, which is my area of strength. Thank you for putting out interesting content consistently and teaching me things about 2 countries!
Soulmates are definitely real. I also thank God every day for mine! You two have such a sweet story! I’m so glad that you found each other, and are building such an amazing life together!
She was done with watching kdramas only to experience one! This is like a beautiful novel story that’ll I’ll enjoy in summer nights.😂❤❤❤❤❤ Thank you for sharing!❤️❤️
Kinda nice to see someone else who is camerashy but still trying and being respected by others. Like in this day and age it's basically unheard of and no one understands how it feels for us or invalidates our feelings Q-Q
My parents met abroad, because my mom was talking to a friend in our mother tongue and my dad was so happy to hear his native language, he asked to join them for coffee
My partner and I met in a video game. I totally understand your last point that we could've easily missed each other if we had done things differently. For us, I was quite new to online gaming. He had been playing since forever but decided to try an easier lobby because of boredom. Lol Because of his goofiness, I enjoyed his company and added him to my friends list after a full night of gaming. Our relationship was also a long distance one, and I somehow ended up in Montreal with two kids. We're still going strong 10 years later. Life is unpredictable.
If you’re into anime, there’s this one called My love story with yamadakun at lv999 which reminded me so much of your story :3 currently I’m in one distance relationship too, met through written roleplay, it’s still pretty fresh but your story gives me hope those could work out :)
Your story sounds like how I wanted my story with my crush to go. He was German as well and I loved him so much, unfortunately it didn’t go as planned. Although you gave me hope for my future with someone else. I’ll be studying for university in Erfurt, and I hope to meet my man, for real this time ahah. Always like your content and your humor 💜
You are absolutely adorable and I love your videos! Go forth into the world and share your wonderfulness! German boyfriend seems like a good soul and a keeper!
I love how because both of you went out of your comfort zones and was then pushed by friends and an uncomfortable hotel that you found eachother! Actual soulmates! Also that picture he took just before you met is so beautiful! My heart races thinking of how it's the moment before you connected! Thanks Uyen and German Fiancé for sharing!
I just love the 2 of you! I had a German boyfriend (he lived in the U.S.) He was wonderful! We were together for 5 years, but ultimately, we wanted different things from a partner, so we became good friends. He died very young, and I miss him most days. I hope you two grow together and remain so very cute and perfect for eachother forever!
I had a similar experience, but I was the german boyfriend with a girlfriend from the U.S. haha. She is still alive, but we don't have contact anymore, just because we wouldn't be able to move on with our lives otherwise.
Oh My Goodness Uyen! Your story is adorable! I'm from Puerto Rico and my Norwegian-Lithuanian husband is from California, and we met 14 years ago in Romania doing an archaeological excavation [and my first European trip]. If my husband had not failed Latin, he wouldn't have ended up in Archaeology and participating in that dig. There wouldn't have been ANY chance of us meeting. I had the same feeling as you, and I was confused as I had not dated before but I am happy I gave him a chance. Please tell us the second part! My husband is very similar to Mr. German BF, it's too funny. I wish you both nothing but happiness, abundance, love, and health. May you live many years together in happiness.
My husband and I met on a dating app, but we both had that same "this is my soulmate" feeling on our first date. It's funny, because I almost didn't go! I had been feeling discouraged after a string of bad dates and didn't feel up to it. But I had rescheduled once already, and didn't want to do it a second time. So I went! I'm so glad I did, because it was the best date I've ever been on! It's been about 5 years but I still think about that night often. 🎉 Here's to soulmates!
You are so funny and nice and interesting. Your shorts make me laugh, you are a talented comédienne. And your English is so fluent and so good. Congratulations, you two are a great couple and good luck on your exams.
That’s called destiny. You both are so lucky to meet and stay with your soulmates. And also congratulations to German fiancé for being confident and comfortable enough to try and reveal himself in the video. Thank you so much both of you, you are one of my favourite couples on the Internet 😊

This is the cutest story about how you guys met, and definitely very coincidentally. It is funny how life takes you by surprise sometimes. Loved this video, thank you for sharing🥰
You guys are so sweet! I love it! It reminds me of when my husband & I met. We met online. We were in our mid 30's & had given up on finding someone. He had just moved to my state 1 year before. Our first date went good but he was standoffish & I didn't think he liked me. I was heart broken because he was the first guy I'd met that I actually wanted a 2nd date with. Then I accidentally texted him after our first date but the text was supposed to go to my mom to let her know I was home safely. I texted, "I'm home. It was ok. He brought me flowers." I said it was ok because I didn't think he would ask me out again & I was trying not to be heartbroken over it. The text accidentally went to him instead of my mom. He let me know i'd texted the wrong person & I was mortified. Thankfully he did not hold it against me though & did ask for another date. He has never let me live it down though lol Then by date 5 I had told him I loved him & we were engaged a year later. Now our 4th wedding anniversary is coming up & we both know if he'd never lost his job & then moved to my state we'd never have met. If any of the small things had been different we might never have met. And we thank God too for putting us together.
Love this! ❤ I’ve obviously never met you in real life but I want to say you seem really sweet and German Boyfriend does too. You are such a cute couple, I love the way you each share your cultures together and have such different backgrounds yet love each other so much. I’m also pleased that German boyfriend was confident enough to be on camera, and I think his photography skills are amazing! (Also both of you have such cool accents, and as an English person I have to say you both speak amazing English!! Much love from the UK ❤)
What a beautiful story! And yes, it seems the universe wanted you to be together! What were the chances of you going out! And of him deciding to travel so far on his own (even if, for my experience in Germany, German young people do that more often than we Spanish people do) Really sweet guys ❤
You guys are sooo cute!💛 Honestly though, I know so many people who would never go outside their own country where they may not speak the language or know anyone from there, let alone be forward enough to get the contact info of someone they like. That alone makes your fiance very outgoing in great way! Love your content, can't wait to hear more!!
That's such an awesome concept, I love travelling solo and getting to connect with locals, it's the most enriching experience - so it's great it's actually formalised in Vietnam. Totally makes me wanna go visit just for that :)
I'm a woman. When I travel alone I dont talk to strangers... to many bad stories one see in the news. But I'm glad your BF just went for it! 😊😊😊 Such a nice story. Back in the day my dad met my mom because he called the wrong number and liked her voice. So he keep calling asking her out until she decided he was funny and gave him a chance. Their 39 year anniversary is this year. 😊😊😊
it's only now that I realize I was a "victim" of westerner hunting, but it happened to me several times. The nicest was a conversation that started on the toilet of Goethe Institut in Hanoi about a not closing toilet stall door, I offered to stand watch for her, then we had coffee and in the end we chatted until her classes started. So much fun!
I'm telling you, if you ever decide to have kids together, you are going to be so glad you are parenting with someone who is overly cautious about everything. My husband is like this, and he is an excellent dad.

Kids also do it in Indonesia :) in Jakarta they would approach foreigners at touristy areas and ask to practice speaking English.
I love this so much!
When the universe sees two souls that should be together, the universe makes sure they are! I’m so glad you & German fiancé are together!!❤️❤️
Yep, With God there are no coincidences.
@@wsue1038 Totally agree 😁
Your meeting was pre-ordained 😊
I’m also Singaporean! Hello to you!
You two look so adorable ♥ Love from Cologne, Germany
They're getting married! Woohoo!
Congratulations on your story as well!
You have good vision! I didn't notice the bear picture in the background! So adorable 😊
@@marywenzel3199 flying roaches are the bane of my existence, I will literally leave my apartment until someone comes to kill it 💀
my mom would always book us mediocre hotels when traveling as kids.
I want to eventually live in New Zealand, UK, Scotland or a European country permanently too, I'm not attached to Malaysia because I spent half of my life outside of it
@@naylisyazwina6836hi, if you dont mind me asking, which uni?
Can I know ur wife? Cos I am a ex Malaysian - living in Europe now .... Shall we?
Oh, it’s nice and warm. You don’t miss the freezing cold, do you?
Your story is just as delightful as you are!
I’m so glad you two met and that German Boyfriend is more comfortable speaking on camera. He’s adorable and so are you!
God, I really felt the “Affordableeee!” at 1:41 😂💕
The picture you included that he took of you is so charming and flattering!
I can feel your shy happiness through the screen and it's heartwarming! ❤

What a wonderful and sweet story. I'm definitely a believer in FATE and things that are meant to happen. I wish you both lots of happiness
What a great story. Two people from different halves of the world, meeting randomly by chance. That is cosmic fate.
I'm glad you guys met. Sounds like you have a really special relationship. Also you are both so adorable!
Yeah! I do!
U cant board with it. Have to check it in with luggage right?
If you put it in your luggage its fine i think
As long as you don’t have it on your person
I just found it funny when "German Boyfriend" got up from his desk, picked up his passport, wallet and Swiss-Army knife like that's all he needs 😂 I rarely see anyone carrying Swiss-Army knives
this 8 minutes may be most heart-warming minutes of my life, what a cute story!
You truly were meant to meet. ❤ I find it interesting that you both had to get out of your comfort zone to find each other. It kind of makes me believe in love a little more. :)
I was having a pretty depressing day, but this video showed up on my feed and your story made me feel better. Thank you for sharing!
Lol
I wish you all the best in making your vision of the future come true! 🥰 looking forward to your video then 😉
@@vanillabear228 Thank you! You're so kind!
That's such a sweet story ^^ I am so very happy for the both of you. I am also in the LDR for 8 months now. You guys give me so much hope :)
aaa im so happy for you!! im also currently in a long distance relationship and i feel happy that it worked out for you!!
🎉 that's so sweet! Congrats on your work visa!
Omg !! He should move to Singapore with you tho now UK is so bad
This is like a beautiful novel story that’ll I’ll enjoy in summer nights.😂❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you for sharing!❤️❤️
Kinda nice to see someone else who is camerashy but still trying and being respected by others. Like in this day and age it's basically unheard of and no one understands how it feels for us or invalidates our feelings Q-Q
My parents met abroad, because my mom was talking to a friend in our mother tongue and my dad was so happy to hear his native language, he asked to join them for coffee
😍
It is always awesome to hear one's mother tongue in a foreign land.
I love hearing about how couples met and this story did not disappoint! So cute!! :D
Beautiful story, I'm glad you two found each other. Have a wonderful life together.
If you’re into anime, there’s this one called My love story with yamadakun at lv999 which reminded me so much of your story :3
currently I’m in one distance relationship too, met through written roleplay, it’s still pretty fresh but your story gives me hope those could work out :)
I am so freaking excited and happy. This is so sweet.
What a sweet story!! Fills my heart with joy to see you two come together despite distance & barriers!!! Yaaay for Yous!!! 🤩🫶🏼
I'm so sorry for your loss but I am grateful you both got to experience both love and friendship.
This is so sweet! I'm so happy you guys met and that you share your adventures with us!
That's so nice 😊. I hope you will do really great in exam ☺️☺️☺️
Thank you! 😃
What a sweet and romantic story! Life finds a way!
I was smiling throughout Uyeh!! This is so sweet and thank you so much for sharing it with us ❤
Two more shy people, okay one calm .. such a sweet story.
Your story is uplifting and encouraging. Thank you for sharing it
That's such a cute story! Also props to you for being so brave to talk to foreigners to improve your English. That's so brave.
I have a silly grin listening to your story. How awesome! Lucky that you found each other. I wish you joy!
Beautiful love story! Wishing you guys lots of love and happiness! Random encounters might have big outcomes in the future, that is just awesome.
8 min felt so short! This story was over too fast! I loved it & I can’t wait to hear part 2
I love the “affordable” shout, it made me lol. The story of your meeting is very sweet 😊 best of luck with your exam ☘️ And many years of happiness to you both 💜
This is unbelievably cute!! It was a good story time. Always nice to hear when people who are right for each other, find each other.
You know the sheer luck of you 2 meeting at the lake that evening in Vietnam... Actually made me cry. I so hope to find a loving guy like yours as well
i enjoyed listening to this, thanks for sharing the story! we have been in 7y LDR between germany and south Korea. We fought hard togther and finally got Married and living in germany togther! Best luck to you guys!
This is really cute, your story should be made into a movie😭😭💗
I’m very hormonal today and I am over here CRYING because your love and your story is so sweet!! 🥹☺️ thank you for sharing!
As someone that can relate to both of you when it comes to that fear of socializing and the unknown etc…. I’m so proud of both of you!!
It was ok. He brought me flowers."
I said it was ok because I didn't think he would ask me out again & I was trying not to be heartbroken over it.
The text accidentally went to him instead of my mom. He let me know i'd texted the wrong person & I was mortified. Thankfully he did not hold it against me though & did ask for another date.
He has never let me live it down though lol
Then by date 5 I had told him I loved him & we were engaged a year later.
Now our 4th wedding anniversary is coming up & we both know if he'd never lost his job & then moved to my state we'd never have met. If any of the small things had been different we might never have met.
And we thank God too for putting us together.
This is sooo beautiful ❣️
I thank God for your union too. We all get to benefit 🤗
Blessings!
Such a lovely real-life story! You guys are such a happy presence in the world.
This is one of the cutest “how we met” stories I’ve ever heard!
Absolutely!
What a beautiful story! And yes, it seems the universe wanted you to be together! What were the chances of you going out! And of him deciding to travel so far on his own (even if, for my experience in Germany, German young people do that more often than we Spanish people do) Really sweet guys ❤
i respect his confidence to show up on camera!!
That's just such a sweet story to listen to. Hope you guys have a great future together!
We LOVE seeing him in any way and hope as time passes he will embrace our interest and affection too as it is a part of your life! ❤
So cute and his photography is BEAUTIFUL! Good luck on your exams!! 💜
Me from Czech republic watching girl from Vietnam how he met her German boyfriend in english.
This reminds me a lot of how my hubs and I met. If even one thing was a tiny bit different, we would have never met. Its a really magical feeling :)
I'm telling you, if you ever decide to have kids together, you are going to be so glad you are parenting with someone who is overly cautious about everything. My husband is like this, and he is an excellent dad.
