I built a detailed, yet practical and appropriate forklift from GHQ's White Metal (Pewter) kit for my N Scale Model Rialroad, Wrightsville Port. This model can fit in any layout or diorama in 1:160 or 1:150 scale and is a great addition to any industrial scene.
In this episode I comment on my own work to show how I used student grade, cheap acrylic paint to make a professional looking n Scale model. Though tiny in size, the model boasts some fine details for its size and it was quite exciting to bring out those details using some very easy, yet effective detailing and weathering techniques. The model, the materials, the tools and the techniques shown in this episode are all within the grasp of any model maker or minuature enthusiast - from beginner to veternas. It is also possible to use these tricks for larger models like in HO (1:87) or even O (1:43.5) scale.

So many great techniques! I have one of these kits that I built many years ago - time to upgrade it with some of your techniques!
Awesome vid again.
I like this format a lot, nice to have detail work and talking head in the same frame, and the short written tips n tricks work just fine.
Keep up the brilliant work.
Luv luv luv
Glad you enjoyed it, Morten! I am experiemnting with some new elements to see if I can make the video more enjoyable without sacrificing on the details of the tricks, techniques and overall completeness of what essentially is an instructional video. Cheers! Kaustav
WEATHER-ING TIME 😄!!! love it
😂😂 - I always get excited about weathering! I am building a little boat now, and about to start detailing and weathering and I cannot wait to get started!
Wow, great job. On the model and the editing. Kept me entertained. My favourite part was at 7:40. Love that clip. The amount of time you must have spent on the model and then editing is priceless. -Mark
Thank you Mark! I'm glad tht you enujoyed it. Yeah - that clip is from the BBC's talking animal video quite some years ago. Give it a search, it's hilarious!
Hi Professor, first of all, I absolutely love the new format. I truly believe you have a winner with it. At first I thought the insert was too large. But I soon got used to it. And you were clever in your production, so you never got in your own way. The results of the build, as always, were beautiful. Great work. Great addition to the harbor scene. I hope everybody appreciates your efforts. See ya next time. Oh I almost forgot. The humor is much appreciated.
Thank you Norman! If I were able to keep you (and all other viewers) entertained, then that will be my biggest reward! I am playing around with your suggestion for videos under 10 minute format. One primary reason is that I will have to balance editing time with building so that end of the day I can build more models. Thanks for stopping by. Cheers! Kaustav
Great video. Thanks for sharing. After watching this I dug that kit out of storage to give a try. One question: Did you use any fixative to keep the pastel powders on? Cheers. Maurice
Thank you Maurice! Glad that this inspired you to build the kit. No, I didn't use any fixative for this model since once placed on the layout the model will hardly be handled. Plus, pastels, unlike chalk has a fixative property of it's own and will bind with the underlying paint to some extent, enough for any N scale model. Cheers! Kaustav
nice video
Thanks for the visit! Much appreciated. :) Cheers! Kaustav
Well used forks will be steel colored, not enough time to rust, looks like a Toyota paint job
agreed. It should've been a slight touch of chrome. Will do that in the next one. Good to see you Dave and hope you're doing well. Cheers! Kaustav
If Steve sees this, he might downvote it.
He sure will! Thank you for stopping by Joseph! Hope you're doing well. Cheers! Kaustav
