    Just a question on when you said the intumescent strip needs to be on the fire side. That’s fine when the door opens into the garage however if there is a step down into the garage the door needs to pull towards you as there is a step / trip hazard. The strip is then not on the fire side, but I can see the logic for both , not sure if there is a right or wrong ?

      Hmmm good point - honestly not sure...it's conventional for doors to open into a room, so that you aren't having to walk backwards before walking forwards into a room, so I just followed that 🤔

    What are the best nails to use so they're less visable or does it not matter?

    • @OfficeBoyBuilder
      @OfficeBoyBuilder  8 месяцев назад +1

      It's less important - what you're better off doing is getting a good nail punch and being diligent with sinking the nails deeper below the surface of the wood, and then filling/sanding/painting.
      I know people like Robin Clevet like to use screws instead so that he can remove the door lining if he wants to, but I've never had to do that.

    • @OfficeBoyBuilder
      @OfficeBoyBuilder  2 года назад

      Yes you probably can. But you might not want to, given that they're not designed for security in the same way that a "proper" front door is.

      I really like Leaderdoors.com - I found their prices good, and although delivery can be a little slow occasionally, the delivery people are careful with the doors to make sure they arrive in good condition.

    What doors in the house had to be changed to fire doors…. Did all the bedrooms have to be changed??

    • @OfficeBoyBuilder
      @OfficeBoyBuilder  8 месяцев назад

      Yes, all the bedroom and living room doors need to be changed to fire doors.
      The only way around changing them is to install a sprinkler system in every room!

    Beautiful job, I really like the architecture.
    Can I ask, you obviously had to interrupt the fire seal when you cut in the hinges and lock receiver.
    Is that a worry for a fire door?

    • @OfficeBoyBuilder

      Good question, and the answer is "no" because we used grade 13 fire hinges...! Otherwise it can be an issue

    Great video mate. I wasn’t sure if you had to have a threshold for fire doors in the bottom ? Also did you have to put fire doors on your other doors upstairs due to the loft ? I’ve got to annoyingly. I used to be so jealous of your videos as I couldn’t wait to be at this stage. I’m glad to say I’m finally getting there ! Just finished all the walls for the rooms. Now onto first fix and then plasterboard 😅

    • @OfficeBoyBuilder
      @OfficeBoyBuilder  9 месяцев назад +1

      We need to install fire doors throughout the entire house! Oddly they don't all need to have fire door linings, only the way into the garage and I put one on the doorway into the kitchen, but I don't think that was strictly necessary. All the doors (and hinges!) into bedrooms need to be fire rated too, but no need to change the linings.
      Congrats on getting so far with it. Keep up an even pace if you can. "Don't grow weary while doing good!"

    In a HMO, would the fire side be the room or the hallway containing kitchen ?

    • @OfficeBoyBuilder
      @OfficeBoyBuilder  Год назад +1

      I believe it's the kitchen side, as that's where a fire is most likely to originate. However I believe fire regs are there for the whole door on both sides, so it's about the entire unit rather than just one side of it.

    Can I ask what carpet/underlay combo you went for ? Give it much thought?

    • @OfficeBoyBuilder
      @OfficeBoyBuilder  3 года назад

      I went for the second nicest underlay they had on offer, and then the plushest feeling carpet I could get my hands on 🤣 it's super sumptuous in there, and designed as a place to sink your toes into...that's about as far as I thought it through, because the complexities around different carpet weaves was just too much for my mind 🤯

    Did you read the door fire certificate?

    • @OfficeBoyBuilder
      @OfficeBoyBuilder  3 года назад

      I feel like this question is a trap...I bought a 30 minute fire door and installed it on a 30 minute fire door frame, using grade 13 hinges. As I understand it, that's sufficient for the building inspector to sign off...?

    • @mattpickett2391
      @mattpickett2391 3 года назад

      @@OfficeBoyBuilder it's not a trap question mate. How do I message you privately on RUclips?

    • @mattpickett2391
      @mattpickett2391 3 года назад +2

      @OfficeBoyBuilder Looks like RUclips disabled that feature. Building Control would possibly sign it off as they have limited knowledge and it's a domestic property. On top of the door there should be a label with a certificate number. If you go on Deanta's website you should be able to find it there. It will advise of what your frame material can be and dimensions, what hinges and locks are allowed, the positions they should be, the size of the intumescent seal and the maximum gaps permitted around the frames. I do this for living and enjoy your channel. Just double check your set up against this. If you need any assistance let me know.
