Nice room and equipment. I'm curious, may I ask you some question? 1. you mention that you're using TC 6000 for limiting, and how about L2? Do you use them both in series and same time? 2. Do you go to L2 before TC or after TC6000? 3. What DAW playback do you use? In what sample rate and bitrate? if someone send you 44.1Khz, will you convert it first? 4. Do you use diferent DAW and PC for record? Do you record final master in 44.1/16 for CD release? 5. Do you slam your AD to get the loudness or using L2/TC? Thanks alot
1. I don't use the TC6000 as much these days as I'm using more ITB limiters...fabfilter / Oxford...I usually use 2 limiters not in any order it change per track. 2. either depends on the sound. 3. I use Sadie / Soundblade / RX4 depending on the track as they all sound different...I tend to play out at the sample rate supplied so I don't have to use a SRC but somtimes upsample to 96k. 4. I use Sadie to record as it's standard in Metropolis, I record back mainly @ 44 / 24 then dither for CD, unless requested 96k. 5. I slam sometimes...or use a combination. Hope that helps... Streaky.
You should have a raffle for those artists who have talent but who are not listened to by the big sponsors. Open the doors to those who do not have time to collect all that money to be able to pay you a production of in a dream. I wish you would record my song or my entire album but I'm Latino and the money here is a real complication. Long live all that music that is true and that is so missed in this era.
How important are your Maselec high frequency limiters? Do you find yourself using them a lot? How do they compare to a plugin multi-band hf limiter? Is it a night and day difference? Incredible studio btw.
Very very nice setup, loved it.If you consider the eq's which one has the smoothest high end according to you? And which eq and comp is your go to coloring equipment for acoustic music? Thanks again. Cheers
Thanks...top end would be Maselec or Avalon...colouring Avalon 747 and Chandler EQ (although I've sold that now as I tend not to colour that much with EQ....)
Just finished a course on mastering at Berklee, Boston with Jonathan Wyner and having seen what you have, I'm drooling. LOL. Thanks for the overview Streaky. I can only hope to attain some nice pieces like you have in your gear arsenal. Some day... For now, I'm stuck in the box. Any plugins you consider must haves?
Maselec, then I hear the O jay's "For the love of money". Just the first 3 minutes of this video is killing me! Don't know the MLA-2 price but the Canadian price for the MLA-1 is $12,599, and $11,712 for the Weiss EQ1, $8756 for the MEA-2 and $5312 for the mastering comp MLA-2, a mere $3038 for the BAK-EQ by Dangerous Music, and I missed some things like the tC electronics 6000 which doesn't list the price, you have to call for it but a used 6000 reverb main frame with digi i/o and ICON is $8995...either you are a great mastering engineer or you won a lottery, born into money etc. Either way, massive and amazing set up, and that wasjust the first few min minus a few very expensive items that aren't sold in stores here...too expensive to stock. I just came. I'm fighting to get an Antelope Zen studio, a set of YSM* monitors from Yorkville Sound and a Furman a/c line conditioner so my money isn't wasted due to that loud noise floor dirty electricity creates. For anyone just getting into making music, you HAVE to own a Furman or similar though Furman is very very good for the money line conditioner, it gives you an extra 3db headroom just from losing that hiss you hear when you turn everything up with no programming moving through it, just that hiss. Huge difference in the end. By the time i COULD AFFORD HALF THIS MASTERING ROOM i WOULD HAVE BEEN DEAD FOR 25 YEARS! Think I'll take my pulse now just in case I missed it.
The job of a mastering engineer today: - "How do I make this louder than Nicki Minaj's latest song?" - "Should I use Sausage Fattener or an iZotope Ozone limiter? Hmm decisions decisions" - "MONEY MONEY MONEY GIVE ME MONEY RIGHT NOW
Hi, nice room, you have great analogue options so I'm interested to know what ITB stuff you find useful considering that you don't have to solely rely on it. thanks
NS10's in mastering? Like turning up to compete at the Monaco Grand Prix with a Reliant Robin. The are tinnitus inducing, boxy and should have disappeared 20 years ago.
hey that was great. thanks for giving us a peek into your space. We're impressed with how organized and orderly it is!
thanks for watching :)

Incredible setup! I’m looking to compliment my bettermaker 232 eq with a color eq. Do you enjoy the curve bender in mastering situation? Thanks
great equipment

Just seen this in 2020 after a lot of your speaker reviews. How has your setup changed in the past few years?

Streaky, I'm a friend of Mazen. We worked together in OZ at EMI studios. Daniel D
I bet I know how you got the nickname Streaky. Heh...
Go on try?
After seeing those NS10's ,it give me the perception not to take his mastering techniques serious.
