The only thing I noticed was that annoying attack on the kick that pierced my ears from the start. I knew that was going to get treatment. The dry mix itself was balanced but lacking.
I was also expecting some multiband limiting as Mazen did later in the video, but how he managed to pinpoint those problem-frequency ranges to raise/dip, that takes skill and years of experience.
He sweetened the mix up pretty awesomely.

he uses a mid/side eq. the kick only belongs into the middle, not into the sides. with that kind of eq you can cut the bass only in the sides without affecting it in the middle where it belongs. as he said, too much bass in the sides will blur your bass when not played in a 2 speaker setup but in a multi-speaker setup like in a club. I hope I could answer your question :)

(In the soundcloud master version) I notice some distortion here. In the video I noticed that is Db meter was peaking. It may not sound that way when playing it back with your analogue volume knob turned down causing the illusion of great head room but when you compress it to MP3 to soundcloud, your head room dramatically declines thus causing distortion.

  • @farawayskiesmusic

Yeah, was actually surprised he did the comparison with the master obviously louder. Of course the louder one will sound better.

I was wondering if the track has ridiculously loud chorus or solos, and also very low parts, would it be possible to have 2 different setting for different parts of the track?
treating it like 2 different tracks, because in essence that is what it is 2 very different vibes and energy levels,

  • @0tto777

question: how did he apply the eq just to the difference without affecting the bass ? he said he will apply a low cut at 60 hz which is passing by the bass freq.
last question: isnt the artist of the track already filtered out the low freq of drums and other instrument that are in stereo/difference why would the master engineer reapplies a low cut then? thank you

Experience. But you make a good point... you should always gain stage your outputs to match the original so you aren't faking yourself out. Once you've been doing it for enough years, you can skip this on occasion and be alright.

Check this M/S EQ Plugin from Brainworx and watch the video we have on the website. bx_digital_v2 via Plugin Alliance.
M/S is a great way to EQ "mid" and "side" information of your mixes rather than L/R.

Its strange though.. I heard 27k too.. But I don't really think that is even a bandwidth in a relevant range. 20k is pretty much the max audible threshold. Unless he is literally adding air. lol
