The camera is honestly the craziest thing ever invented. I can’t wrap my head around how you can capture a moment in your life with the touch of a button. Even after this video. Like… how? Who thought of it? How did they figure it out? I understand the light aspect, but how tf does a piece of technology capture an image? It’s just crazy to me. It truly is the greatest thing humanity has ever created.
Understand it like this, the way painting works, we simply see and draw which is the most rudimentary way of capturing life moment Camera is doing the same but without painter, just by letting the lights draw (leave impact on film)
I've seen and watched many tutorials on photography in the last few years, but, without any doubt, this is one of the simplest and best tutorials on how a camera works. I'm also amazed at how detailed the final drawing was doing it live and that it shows a very good representation how digital photos are taken. Thank you for taking the time and demonstrating your talent to simplify such a complex subject.
Capturing color is pretty complicated, but the simple explanation is that each 'megapixel' is actually several and detect the different wavelengths of color that fall on their small part of the picture. When mixed together they show a "single" color. If you would like I could make a more technical video about this?
I'm from the future in the year 2020. Most college classes are given online now (because of uhhhh... reasons) and now we can finally watch the lectures in 2x speed!
Every so often, I come back to this video that helped me learn the fundamentals of photography and I appreciate the concise, clear, and eye-opening explanation.
Thanks everyone for all the wonderful comments. We love you guys and are really glad that we could help out. Please share us with your friends and on your Facebook feeds. In a month or two Allversity will finally be launching its website and you will be able to see this and lots of other courses all posted together one one awesome learning platform. So check back with us at Allversity in late spring!
I only wanted to watch this one video. But you did such a fantastic and clear simple way of explaining that. I subscribed. Cause everyone needs help at times... Great job
This is well broken down, straight to the point, not complicated and helps one comprehend easily. Thank you very much sir, you are doing a great job and it was very helpful to me.
That is one word for them! Thanks for adding that in. When I get going on these vides I often find myself forgetting words, that is what makes the comments area some great!
I loved your drawing and simple explanation with your very comfortable voice. It would have been nice with subtitles though, but I'm a new subscriber anyway!
Camera technology are examples of Sciece marrying Arts. I can understand complex mathematic, car technology and space. But camera technology is fascinating and i really respect those people behind it. Combine camera technology with complex computer… we can capture image of far far away planet systems. Its crazy.
Great help for beginners.. I've always admired photography and just bought a Canon T3i.. Although there are a lot of other tutorials/guide for intro DSLR out there, I think it is VERY IMPORTANT TO UNDERSTAND THE BASICS of how a camera works.. and you have done a wonderful job... Thank you!!!
even though m a commerce student but i was kinda interested in this n the way u explained even i did not have any problem understanding this .. kudos to you! loved your simplistic approach!
Out of all the videos I've seen this really broke down the fundamental concept very well, ive worked in optics making lenses with prisms so that part I can see being applied. Now i kinda wanna see how these chemicals react to light
Thanks so much for the compliment! Be sure to share us with your friends. You can see other videos and even take a photography course at our homepage Allversity [dot] com. To answer your question: there are several people cited for inventing film, and in many ways it depends on your definition of what 'film' is. The wikipedia page about 'photographic film' gives a nice little overview!
Thanks so much for sharing our video! We love it. And we are glad that it works for you. I will certainly be doing more videos as we get into summer here and we will keep you posted. Be sure to subscribe to us to get the newest ones sent to you. As for your cellphone's camera: it works the same as every other camer in the world. The only difference is that it probably doesn't have a shutter, many simply capture light from the sensor and record it to the phone's memory.
Hey Isabella! That is a very good point. Thanks for putting it in the comments. In retrospect you are probably right, I should have mentioned that. In the end I believe that landed in another lesson. I think it is in the lenses lesson, but sorry it is missing in this one. Oversight on our part. Cheers!

exactly
Fr, such a complicated yet such a common piece of technology
I often wonder the same thing. Good thing I’m not alone in this

Allversity Yea that would great!
'pixel' bro. 1 megapixel can already create a photograph
YES PLEASE!
So basically today's mobile camera r work on how fast they open and close the holes to get perfect images
Please do!
I like the speed at which you speak. These ppl in the comments section are annoying. This video really helped me. Thank you for making this.
I have genuinely my whole life have been confused on how a camera works, and this actually gave me a good understanding of how it does
Its cool to see how similar it is to how an eye operates
yup alhasan ibn al haithem when he invented it he first study how the eye operate
thinking the same shit

If only there was a 2x speed button for my classes when I was in college.
hello i am from the future, this video has now 2x speed button.
i think he joked about 2x speed button in college
and not about video, because as i remember, 4 months later it was possible to speed up to 2x
LOL, 1.5 is ideal for this video!
