Thank you for the tutorial! The last time I played Ingress was back in 2017 & today on 2022 I decided to install again. But I noticed from this new Ingress Prime, a lot of the menu has changed so I was bit confused so that's where I found this video hoping to relearn again. :)

Same here @mylifeaslouis. I was playing (REDACTED) back in 2014/2015, and decided to give it another spin this week. I might as well never have played it before, I feel like such a greenhorn! This video has helped loads, though!
I am an active Pokemon Go player (currently at level 46).. and I agree with him, Ingress is more complex.

I’ve been at this for four years now, and I prefer Redacted to Prime, but Prime is getting better.
Here’s a couple of recommendations:
1. Know your city. It pays to know where you’re going, but Ingress can help navigate, as it is a map and compass system.
2. Stay fed and hydrated.
3. Take breaks. Going for longer than a few hours at a time can wear you out. Burn out portals, but don’t burn yourself out.
4. Make friends! Being a lone wolf is fine, but teaming up with others can make the game more exciting. The game rewards you with better gear the more friends you have.
5. Don’t be afraid to fight! It’s part of the fun, and it’s expected. It is a competition, after all.
6. Play at your own pace, and don’t compare yourself to others.
7. Be inspired to learn new things about your city as you play. It’s all about exploration.
8. Bring an external battery pack and charging cable for longer sessions. Prime can drain your battery a bit.

Iv been playing pogo since 2016 when it came out and when I saw the company made another game I got so excited because I love the ar concept of walking around and playing the game with others in the area but as soon as I got the game it looked so confusing and jumbled. As a long time player do you have any tips for a starter trying to figure out the mechanics of the game?

I found Ingress after they announced Pokemon GO, but before it was released. I was hyped to play PoGo and obviously didn't want to wait, so when I heard in a press conference about this other game Niantic had made, I jumped on immediately. Once Pokemon GO came out, I tried playing both, but found that it just took too much time to switch between both apps. Have considered switching off days or weeks of playing one or the other, but at this point I'm so deep into PoGo that I never want to miss a precious day of my streaks (Plus there's almost constantly some sort of event going on nowadays that I don't want to miss out on), so Ingress fell by the wayside. I gave the Prime update a look when it came out. It was pretty laggy on my phone at the time, which has hopefully been remedied by now, but who knows.
Maybe once I hit max level in Pokemon I will switch back to Ingress. IIRC, I'm a level 6 RES. There was a LOT of activity in the game in my area back when I played, which meant that there was almost constantly tons of large fields around, so it was very hard for me to throw links and fields to get that sweet AP unless I wanted to go far out of my way to take out a key enemy portal or something. I generally focused on getting the medals instead, since I knew I needed a certain amount to get past level 8 (Ended up with a platinum Guardian medal that I neglected and let die DAYS before it would have hit Onyx... Such a dummy I was for letting that happen). Also didn't help that the community wasn't the GREATEST at the time... Apparently some people were cheating by doing that thing where they grabbed the enemy team's data and then used that to kill people's Guardian portals a day before they hit the final level (This didn't happen in my case, I literally just forgot about it for too long when life got hectic). Also, players on my own team would sometimes complain when I threw a link because they had been planning to throw a field of some kind, and my link got in the way of the link they wanted to make... That was pretty discouraging because I just felt like I was playing the game normally, doing what I could to gain some levels, and suddenly my own team is angry at me in COMMs because I ruined somebody's plan by accident. BUT, for every person who's field I messed up, there would be 5 more tagging me in COMMs after I threw a link just to welcome me and ask if I had any questions. At one point, I was even part of a local player group. Unfortunate that they decided to use Google+ for that... We all saw the fate of that platform recently. 😂 Hopefully they will have moved to something proper, like a Discord server or something, by the time I start playing again. I had to really go out of my way to get to the local group chat when it was on G+, so I rarely used it. They also had a second one that was exclusive to players level 8+, which I UNDERSTAND given the way the game works at higher levels, but I still felt pretty excluded by that. ;p Like, if they were all gonna go out and raid enemy portals one day, I could swing by and help out. Level 6 bursters are no slouches, after all. Plus I could help upgrade resos and/or they could help me get in some AP by letting me actually capture the portals/throw the final field or whatever. Most of them were level 16 anyway, so they don't need the AP... Yeah, just seems a little counter-intuitive to have an exclusive group like that in this game. Maybe I just had a bad experience, though... I didn't quit playing over it or anything, I had plenty of fun being a lone wolf. It was PoGo that drew my attention away, like I said. After all this time (And the closure of G+), perhaps my local community has changed to be a bit more open to helping out newer players. :)
Buster Beachside I play at different times of the day like go out for a walk and play pogo and when I get groceries or hang with friends I play ingress and it’s worked for me

Just keep hacking and doing what you can to lv up. Dont get down heartened it's much more fun being on the smaller side once you lv up a bit.

Doesn't Ingress use OpenStreetMap as it's ingame map instead of Google Maps? Minor correction but I'm pretty positive about this.
When I was chatting with John Hanke a couple years ago he said Intel had a direct 100mb connection into Google Maps.
I had assumed they ran similar but now that you mention it since open street maps will update ingress maps it's possible they use a dual setup.

@@luykrukiewicz7064 More than one guy. John Hanke who founded Niantic was the former VP of Google Maps and his former company invented Keyhole which was bought and turned into Google Earth. The Google Maps/Niantic connection is strong.

Hi, how is it now? It seems that only Lev 10 players can create a new portal, or Pokemon Go Level 40 players... Not sure if a new portal can cross over to the other game tho... Try to connect with others, even from the other team, because you need them allthough they are the enemy haha... See via the Intelmap where are more portals and players and visit and contact and have a good time. I hope it works, let me know how you are doing mate.
It doesn't use google maps, it uses openstreetmap
You need to make a way for factions to be in seprate partys to group up and display all data to each player in the factions party enlightened or resistance u can party up amd display the parties player data

Prime, I have found it is a clunky bit of rubbish.
At and around 2.18 you showed an ENL field stretching from South Island of New Zealand to the tip of the North Island and across to Australia.
The parts done from New Zealand were done on redacted, as prime could NOT see the long distant portals. But as soon as we used Redacted bang, straight away.
Prime needs fixing, please.

Odd question: can we Naruto-run?
Naruto is estimated to be able to run at over 600kph. Ingress has a speed cap of 60kph. So assuming you were as fast as Naruto. No you cannot do a Naruto run. You can however do a Naruto brisk walk as long as you stay 59.9kph.

I used to play Ingress, I love the way you effort new players to play the game. But the game has become so old, and local “mafias” are making lots of new players leave the game due to the impossibility to play because they can’t play. It is due to the low players that it has, I live in a city with 60.000 people, and only 2 players are actively playing and they’re from same faction. I personally think that this is what injuried the game.

@@pistolorexmortimer3849 Few days we did a cross country Ops to link for Dark XM challenge and also made BAFs. Ingress Prime is getting new features. Once the back-end is moved to new Server we will see more new features.

I think ingress uses Google map. Niantic was part of a Google company iirc. They still used Google map for the mission maps (the ones that pop up when you look at the mission), so it's probable that they used Google map for the game as well.

Good guide, PRIME is still useless though...
Since all new players have to use Prime I figured it's best to update for them. My review of Prime will be coming under a separate playlist (AR Expert) after I finish the 100 series. And lets just say I hope NIantic fixes a lot of stuff in the next few weeks

I totally agree, thanks for a great series. You helped me getting started about (exactly) 208 days ago, but hey who is counting 😅, about to hit 12. I got in with some really HardCore players in my community but alot of them will quit if PRIME is forced. So many bugs and idio... porely designed features...

@@Jony1337a yeah... The ingress anime drops April 30th and since new players only have the option of prime I'm guessing the numbers will hold steady even once the old guard does a rage quit.
I'm not sure how long the rage quit will last though. Cuz ingress is a game where you come for the game but then stay for the people. And the people will still be the same (just angry)
Prime is undergoing constant improvements and Niantic has shown clear dedication on making the new app function better. We’re in a new age of Ingress, and change takes time. Be patient, it WILL get better.
