  • In today's painting we'll be talking about
    - atmospheric perspective - capturing the illusion of distance
    - mixing greens so that they work together
    - foreground & how to add texture
I look forward to hearing what you think.

Wouldn't the close-up foliage be accomplished easier with a fan brush?

I sometimes use a fan brush, didn't on this painting. Good suggestion.

Hi, what pallet colours did you use? Especialy the green. Thanks Peter

Hi Peter. The 2 greens I have there are Chromium Oxide Green and Viridian Green (left to right). These are Golden Open paints. Thanks for asking. In my future videos we'll be stating names of colors at the beginning.

Farley, I have been struggling to paint a good convincing blue sky and trying to figure out the correct set of colors to use. This really helped seeing you paint the sky. Your sky looks good in the context of the painting, but it is a lot more purple than the sky in the reference photo. Any thoughts on how to get the deep rich blue near the top of the sky without it going too purple? Thanks!

If you add less red, it won't go quite so purple. I like mixing Phthalo Blue (red shade) and Teal with white. That lets me bend it warm or cool (more teal warms up the sky). Hope that helps, Chris. Glad you are watching some of these videos.
