I'm just coming back from my 3rd foot surgery in 16 months, and tomorrow I'm planning my first ride outside in 4 months. Thanks, Phil, I needed to see a straight up smashing.
Great effort and what a beautiful road to climb. Box Canyon Road was where we learned how to drive the twisties back in high school driver's training. And that was 50 years ago. The next time, I'll ride it.
Just on the other side is Santa susana road just on the outskirts of Simi Valley , famous in the 60s as that was where the Charles Manson family infamous Spahn Ranch was located . Just a little history of this area
I'm really impressed by your performance. And you have a nice way talking in front of the camera. I had to laugh out loud because you put the crash in the intro.. But I must admit I skipped through the actual ride because I'm a bit lost there. A little bit of context would be helpful maybe as voice over (I don't expect you doing that during the ride of course ;) with some information e.g. how you approached the KOM, which time you planned to be in certain parts of the ride, if you matched it and how it all felt during the ride. In a perfect world you would have a map display with two moving dots, one which is you and the other one the current KOM holder. Just some thoughts!
@@FaiscaaaH Phil is indeed a Former Pro but I wouldn't discount newer riders out of the fight, the Washington folks were able to hang on to him for a bit. I would still love to see them face off. Maybe even Feather can join the fight.
@@Xhadp we know that Phill stands for clean sport, if you known what I mean 😉 this is regarding the Washington event. Regarding the rest, just take this into consideration Phil is doing numbers (raw power, and power to weight) that many pros can't. What you see is what you get, 420 - 450 watts ftp is everyone dream but just a few can get it. But I would love to see a Ventoux Phill vs Mr. Feather (this guy is another real life monster).
Your climb was a work of art, Phil, and against that California backdrop, a cycling dreamland. And whenever you do well, just celebrate by wearing a Burger King crown for that feeling of being the king of something. It works for me and I don't even bother with these KOMs. 😀
What helmet are you using Phil? Somehow it avoids the mushroom effect. Good music selection too. Edit: zooming in I see it’s a Lazer. Interest level is dropping…
Ha! me too! I'm in my 60s, focusing on climbing skills this year in Colorado, with a max hr of 160 bpm (I've spiked 1 time to 170) and watching him crank 450 watts at 180 bpm and 120 rpm almost sent me into panic mode, LOL.
Strange question. Does anyone know if this is the climb that has the small Abraham Lincoln bust out on the road to the entrance of someone's house? It's something I recall from way back. Weird I know.
Love the live mic with your breathing, gear shifts and passing vehicles all audible. Please keep this feature!
Agree…I wonder if SRAM would be louder or quieter? 😊
@@kimwrinkle100 It would just be better 😉

my favorite kind of Phil videos right here - love watching you chase KOMs! making big watts and steep climbs look easy!
Beautiful climb. Love the live mic and the music choice - low key/volume, but epic vibe, matches the type of ride and high effort.
Phil, would love to know your gearing range for this effort…high cadence throughout. Well done!!

Great effort! Awesome presentation as well. Have a great trip and a great season!
What a stunning area. Very jealous of the tarmac and climbs you have available on your doorstep.

Brilliant, wish I could climb like that. 👍

So jealous of the roads you have in your backyard!
I like the new version of the outro music! Idk if it was midi before but there's a lot of human-ness in this one.
so what your saying is, you could match the previous KOM by just cruising, awesome!
I understand why you chose the mellow music for accompanying the vid, but that power output deserves some thrash metal, holy crap that's crazy!
Amazing job! Very inspiring!
you always kick off at like 500 watts :D classic Phil
I used to live near Box Canyon. I did that climb many times...at a bit of a slower pace than Phil. 🙂
The breathing was awesome. You sound like a fine tuned oiled machine.
"This is kind of startup. I've done a few intervals".... proceeds to hammer crushing watts.
Glad that you got Max Richter to do your soundtrack for this season❤
Phil you hilarious with that intro..
How do you put the power and speed data on top of the video? Just wondering.
Sick RPMs
Ed Laverack VS Phil Gaimon would be insane, just saying…😂
I want to see Phil vs Andrew Feather on Mt Ventoux.
Ed doesn't stand a chance looool

Quick question, what's happening on the Everesting front? Are you going to be trying that again or is it on back burner for now?
those trees at 2:30 were moving like Snuffaluffagus
Are you riding a compact or standard Crankset and what size cassette?
So did you get the KOM?
Best cycling content out there
Thanks! My honeymoon series will be super fun

I was nearly hyperventilating while watching this lol.

Impressive for retirement 🙌🏻
Thank you for not making yet another Zwift ramp test video!
Beast Mode: ACTIVATED
Your going faster uphill than I could go down hill.
I noticed a typo in the banner on the video. It said '422 watts for 8 minutes'.
A real mountain goat!
KRASAVCHIK
Vintage Phil!
Good inspiration! 👍 I'm hoping to get up to 420 ftp this year #420
Me too 😏

Amazing how fit you are that’s still good pro level do you still race for example on national elite level just for fun?
I find videos to be a lot more fun than racing
Warrior
I'm sure you enjoyed the nice deep whiff of garbage truck! 🤢
Ouch. ❤
Pshh I can do those watts... For 2mins in a zwift race at 205 bpm 💅
The music, why
If Phil is producing twice the power as me for the same HR, does that indicate that his heart is pumping twice the volume (somewhat) as mine? Sheesh.
Vo2 Max
I'm the 70th like and I would like to apologize.
theres no way hes pedalling 125 RPMS at the start.
No music needed, we want to hear the suffering only!
Did I miss it? Did you achieve the kom? Sorry if I did…..🇬🇧🇺🇸✊👍
more vomiting please
What's up with the choice of music? Not sure if fits with pushing 400 watts up a climb haaa. ;)
