    RIP World Chanpion Leon Spinks
I had watched Michael Spinks fight so many times on HBO and became a fan as he moved up weight divisions. I had always hoped to see him fight my other favorite boxer, Marvin Hagler, but they were always too far apart in weight. I thought World Champion Michael Spinks had the boxing intelligence and skills to thwart & outlast World Champion Mike Tyson as it seemed like Ali vs. Foreman to me. At that time it was rare for Tyson to go deep into the later rounds and I had seen the stamina that Spinks had. Also, many felt like me that Tyson was a bully and a 'one trick pony' and had not really been tested by a good strategic fighter. What I didn't account for was the visceral fear that Mike Tyson struck into his opponents, and it was painfully apparent that this is the demon that haunted Michael Spinks in that fight.
All-in all, Michael Spinks deserved to compete to be The World Heavyweight Champion, no question about it.

Spinks was a great champion. In terms of actual boxing, he is right up there. Technically very good, no weak areas in his game and was and still is, a good role model for anyone learning how to box.
Remember, the only person that can fight like Mike Tyson is Mike Tyson. There are just not that many people that can cram all that muscle and power into such a relatively small frame and be able to keep that power and speed. Combined with a perfect execution of the peek-a-boo style which only really suits shorter, powerful, quick and compact fighters, it would always be difficult to beat that.
Had Tyson learned traditional orthodox or south paw, I do not believe he would have been anywhere near as successful.

What most don't realise is that spinks in a naturel light heavyweight not a heavyweight...he is definitely one of the best boxers ever and in my opinion the greatest light heavyweight ever

One of the smartest to ever do it. People forget he was one of the greatest light heavyweight fighters in history. Got a massive pay day with his brain intact and walked into the sunset.

Spinks was a great fighter. He was an all-time great light heavyweight. He was not a great heavyweight but good enough to beat Holmes, who in my opinion was a all-time great heavyweight. He moved up for the money.
