They’re very hard to find. Kyles dad got it for MSRP. They no longer sell for MSRP. That probably was for Kyle’s dad so Kyle could give their dealership some publicity. I love the ionic but started looking at the EV6 and now i think i like that better. People have been paying MSRP at a dealer in Albany NY. I found a dealer near me who charges 1800 over sticker but he gives you a free level 2 charger.

Great review. Thanks. Would be interesting to see future updates that talk about operating costs (charging cost) with charging at home versus at public battery chargers. Does this have a front view camera? If so, does it automatically engage when put into forward gear? I suppose it disengages at 5 mph?? Interesting stats off your “add-on” screen. Is something like that built into the Ionic’s menu system? Can the Ionic be charged at a Tesla charging station with an interface adapter? With 1/2 hour free charging I understand why you are not charging at home. Unfortunately, not everyone has the luxury of spending 30 minutes at a charging station on a daily basis. Wonder how long it would take to charge when the battery pack is at -10 F for our midwestern winter climates? Also, something to consider on long road trips in the winter season.
I thoroughly enjoy all your reviews. Saw this one from a few months ago, but it has more relevance now. We purchased our VW ID4 first edition in 2021. We loved the car. Our only concern was with the software, which VW said would be updated in a few months. That has not been the case. Now there’s a recall for a larger problem with the battery. So we are trading in this car which I still love for a Model Y. Granted, the price drop and rebate have been another reason, but too many problems with VW including opaque messages which keep giving more reasons for delays in updating battery. Thanks for all your work on electrics and I especially like your videos including your wife and adorable little terrier. Patti Mackin Chicago Chicago
Kia EV6 and Hyundai Ioniq 5 have the best charging speed among electric cars, but the actual charging speed depends on the temperature of the battery pack, which drops when the battery pack is cold or too hot (max. module temperature higher than 45°C). Because the Ioniq 5 does not preheat the battery en route to a CCS charger, charging takes longer in winter. Test results by Bjorn Nyland and James Cheung: when the battery pack minimum temperature is -5°C/23°F to +5°C/41°F: 50 kW 5°C/41°F to 11°C/52°F: 65 kW 11°C/52°F to 15°C/59°F: 73 kW 15°C/59°F to 20°C/68°F: 115 kW 20°C/68°F to 25°C/77°F: 185 kW over 25°C/77°F: 225 kW
Kia and Hyundai are reportedly working on a SW upgrade that will address this issue. Both cars HAVE a batery heater, but it only switches on at -5° Celcius Once this threshold is reprogrammed up to perhaps 15°, owners should be ok.
You can manually turn on the battery condition. you can also give the car some spirited driving to warm things up before arriving at charging station or arriving home and charge right away.
Very Good Video. Pretty cool seeing your view of it. I laughed seeing you wear a Tesla jacket while driving it. Btw I think you are the first to mention that the glove box doesn't lock. I haven't noticed that before.. Keep the videos coming.
Great video. I like the discussion about lane keeping and ACC being de-coupled. One thing I just discovered about this car is how to completely turn off lane and steering assist. One big negative up until now was having this on constantly and having the steering wheel "fight" me on one lane roads. Once I learned how to turn off, it's so much better. Still use all the features on multi lane highways but good not having it on smaller roads.
Yes, I agree. Also, regenerative breaking is ONLY useful to control the car coming down a long incline. Those who use it to come to a stop at traffic lights etc.. are just too lazy, and it generates very little charges back to the battery on flat surfaces.
@@tonys9413 I disagree about the Regen braking. I use one pedal driving all the time and love it. I loved it on my Tesla and prefer to drive that way. I hate using the brake pedal
I honestly think I saw you on Long Island, getting on to the Southern State Parkway. That car is not something you see everyday so It definitely stood out.
Picked up a 2024 I5 preferred AWD about 6 months ago after comparing it to the ID4 and a Model Y. We have a dog and are always hauling stuff so a sedan was out of the question. We ruled out the ID4 right away. Too big and just didn’t feel right. The Y was more expensive to buy and insure and they low balled our trade., plus we had to wait months to get one. Drove the I5 off the lot same day and are very happy with it. First EV but it is very roomy, drives more like a car than a van or SUV and has lots of space. It is wider than our last few vehicles but rides really nice.
The seat memory not adjustable while driving makes perfect sense. If a husband or wife accentually hits the button while diving it could cause a wreck easily, if they have large difference in setting.
Great video and forward review... I've put 132,000km on my Koma Electric in 2 years and went looking at the Ioniq 5 for my wife a few weeks back. The car is nice, but the dash is a huge turn off. That big display in front if the driver shows so little useful information. The speedometer is blocked by your left hand which if you don't have the HUD is a problem. And sure you can push a button at your knee to access a menu on the infotainment panel to access the heated seats. But just too much distraction going on for the driver with all the diffrent button locations. The Kia EV6 has a centre console gear selector, which could have housed some simple buttons like all thier other models do for quick access items like this. I see a redesign coming quickly for this car..
Great review! As an FYI - you can change that Favorite (Star) button on either the steering wheel or the one you pressed to go to "Phone Projection." That will make it go right to carplay if you want. Hold down the favorite buttons for a couple of seconds to bring up the menu to set what it actually does, pick "phone projection."
@@dconner9 One final thing, now that I've finished the video - feel free to use the 350s at will. There isn't a car in the USA that can pull higher than the I5 right now. You should have first rights at the 350s. Another fast one is the Taycan, which is 225 max, I think. The Mustang Mach-E is also high, but it's my understanding that no one is at 350 yet.
Hi Dave, are you still driving Ioniq5 ? I’m looking out for new EV and it’s hard to figure out what vehicle would work it’s best for me as EV . I do 100 mile trip one way everyday and it’s requiring to go off county road { no pavement road} every other day. Wondering if EV ok for off road .
Interesting the height in the Ioniq 5, I sat in an Ioniq 5 and sitting correctly for me my head was just rubbing the roof unlike my classic Ioniq which I have a huge space between the top of my head and the roof of the car. Public monies should not be used on proprietary charging standards, a-la Tesla, and that mall really didn't think they need to have put in chargers that ALL EV's can use not a select few remember that could be there for 10yrs and in that time the market will be a lot more EV's. Interesting you can lock the car with the keys in it, my classic Ioniq doesn't allow me to lock the car it beeps at me if I try to lock the car with the keys in it. My classic 28kWh Ioniq also charges the 12V, it has a blue light on the dash indicating that similar to the 5 then. Thanks Dave for another fantastic review you need to be on the channel WAY more, love to see a road trip video like Kyle does sometime in your Ioniq 5.
This car looks insane. Every time I see a Ioniq 5 on the road whoever happens to be in the passenger seat at that time tells me that car looks like its from the future and asks what its called.
You could use some 3M command strips and clips to secure the power cable for your tablet to the footwell wall. Then when you want it gone, just tug the command strips off.
Had my ID4 for 5 months now and have not had any issues with either the app or the fob in the ways you describe. I would say you were just unlucky but you had 3 of them so maybe I'm the lucky one.
On every review of the Ionic 5, the main complaint is no wireless CarPlay. There are many Bluetooth adapters, some under $50 that plugs into the same USB as the wired plugs and gives the same wireless connector. Most are very compact have a short cable fits perfectly in the console.
Gotta say as a middle aged dad it’s one of the coolest looking vehicles I’ve ever seen. Home run in aesthetics in my view. I need something much bigger though (family).
Great video, hits all the major points on the Ionic like not keeping i-pedel drive, slow cold weather charging, and lack of route planning. Other then these three missing features I love the car! Im an Ionic 5 se owner, as well as own a model 3,Y, and S plaid
Battery Min temps seems to be steps of 5 deg Celsius 10, 15, 20 and 25degC once at 25C and over it opens up as per Bjorn Nyland has shown on the GMP set up )
I enjoyed your review. I've had my new Limited almost a week now. I'm definitely enjoying it and I drove a 2020 Model 3 for 4 years. The 3 was a great car but I was sort of wanting to go to a hatchback and something a bit easier to get in and out of. Plus I listen to SXM a lot and it always annoyed me that Tesla never adopted a native app. I got a great deal on the Ioniq 5 because it was technically a used car with 400 miles. The first owner determined that after he bought it that it wasn't for him. I actually met him and he was beside himself. He lost roughly $12K. I bought it for less than $47K and the dealer gave me $5,100 more for my 3 than Tesla was going to. So, you paid $600 for the V2L adapter? Hmm? I just got one on Amazon for less than $60. Even Hyundai's V2L is around $200.
Your review was very well done, Dave. Maybe sometime you can talk about or test the regenerative brakes to see if the kw gain is worth learning a new driving skill or is coasting king just like in traditional cars.
I love you Kyle, but I gotta admit that it is nice watching someone my age give his views on what it is like. No offense, but we look at things a little different than you millennials! Dave, keep up the great work. Would love to see a road trip. Speaking of road trips...Kyle, Alyssa please bring back the stats! (arrival state of charge, time charging, KW's, cost, etc, etc!!!!). Love you too Alyssa - great job with your video's!!!! Blessings to you all!
The point you make about car seat adjustments not being saved unless you stop the car. In my opinion thats a safety feature. I certainly dont want drivers fiddling with saving setting whilst on the road. Once you have stopped then saving the seat adjustment settings.
You did such an awesome job reviewing the Ioniq 5 that my wife and I placed an order for our own! Thanks for the honest and thorough review. I’m interested to know what the name and model is of the analyzer you were using. I’d love to get one for our car. Thanks again.
Wow! Use the Carscanner app with a veepeak OBD Bluetooth reader. Click on the Amazon link in the video description for details. Best of luck w the car !
If you press the right paddle on the steering wheel without letting go, it will keep your regeneration setting on auto and you won’t have to worry about resetting the ipedal each time.
well dave , this is great! only im in canada and being on a 1 year wait for the present model you have ...now the new 23 will have over the air updates so i know you will want to update your model so call me to buy your present model!!!
I think it looks like a hatchback, which is a good thing in my book. I went with the Ioniq 6 recently, mostly because of the price difference, I think both are good as well as the Kia EV 6 which was the one I would have preferred, although, the Ioniq 6 looks really nice in person. ❤
I picked up my Tesla M3 LR almost a month ago. It phantom braked in less then 10 minutes of using the auto drive. I haven't used it since. I have been using the auto speed. That works really well.
The Tesla adaptive cruise control controls speed and braking. It is a subsystem of the autopilot. In other words, if you have another phantom brake event, it will happen because of the cruise control.
To me this car isn't ready with the charging. It's the same thing as the Kia ev6 what's the use of buying a heat pump with the car and you have to spend all that time charging the pack up until it reaches 75⁰ or higher to reach optimum speeds?? Maybe I'm not understand this but I feel they need to recall and fix that or give people their money back. I thought the whole purpose of the heat pump was to warm the pack up?? Too much time sitting and waiting. This car is growing on me but I want the leg rest on the passenger side that's crazy not to give the passenger that comfort like they do on the UK/EU cars. Booo! Oh! Rain-X for the back glass problem solved! LoL! Great video Dave your putting Kyle out of Business there with all the good tips & info love it keep it up.
This was a great review kind of gave a good feeling what it's like to be with his vehicle. I have one question I know you're familiar with the model why how would you compare the two.
24:52 Thank you so much for clarifying this. I've tried asking so many people because someone told me their passenger had the function and the owner's manual says it doesn't. Now I finally understand. To me, it's a deal-breaker. I want my passenger to be able to recline properly. I think if anyone should have it, it's the passenger. I've done so many road trips as a passenger and wished I had this kind of seat recliner to sleep in the car. I could only imagine how obnoxious it would be if the driver used this function (i.e. crashing at a charging station) and they had a passenger unable to. I know it generally won't be a problem, but if I'm going to drop $60k on a car, I want to not have big issues like that, lack of rear windshield wiper, and having to set i-Pedal every single time I drive. There's so many things to love about the Ioniq 5, though, so it is still #2 for me on what I'd be interested to get, whenever I can. Loved your review. Really well done. Really appreciate the discussion on charging, too. People like to brag on the Ioniq 5 with the claimed 10-80% in 18 minutes, but that's really ideal conditions. Interesting that you need the FOB to open the V2L in the back. You're the first person I've seen mention that, so thanks. Not a huge issue but kinda weird and worth keeping in mind. For the charging algorithm, it might be based in Celcius. 68F is 20C and the jump seemed to happen then. 15C is 59F so maybe there was a jump there, too?
@@trex1448 Yeah...I personally wouldn't go with any of those (especially Ford). Possibly worth noting my previous car ('15 Leaf S) was around 30-45 minutes depending on how much I needed to charge and that's for a depressing amount of charge (like 50 miles). I luckily ended up finding a killer deal on a 5 y/o Tesla M3LR with FSD and only 32k miles for $16k so Ioniq 5 is far from my mind now. The features of the Ioniq *could* be cool but honestly it's not worth it. You shouldn't have to pay $60k for those features. The base $40k model should have power windows...it's a f'ing electric car. Even if it were a $30k car I'd be iffy on considering it because most of what I like about it is gimmicks. My Tesla has been great and charging has been fast. Haven't gone on a road trip so I don't know how bad the charge curve is on big charges but I've charged it a few times and I wasn't ready to go when the car was.
@kyleb8117 dude you bought a 5 yr old electric car... of course a new Ioniq is more expensive. It has a bigger battery, faster charging, better build quality, bigger cargo space, better interior, better exterior design... the correct comparison would be with a new Tesla 3.
@trex1448 I wasn't comparing it with that. I'd compare a new Model Y to it. *Edit:* To fully clarify since you obviously missed the point of what I was saying: I was comparing it to ALL EVs in that price range. A car that costs $60k should not be as comparatively pathetic. I was also pointing out that it could be worse on charging because Leaf has it rough (as they're pretty backwards on making cars...they didn't even bother giving the battery proper thermal management in the new models). All Ioniq 5 has going for it is the cool looks and some gimmicks that really don't equate to the high price tag. The charging is just...normal...and even if it always charged in 15 minutes versus 30 is it really that big of a deal? If you're truly an EV owner you understand that 30 minutes to charge is not a big deal. Grab a meal. Go explore a shop. Enjoy yourself.
Hi Dave, Great review - as was the delivery video. Gary Rome is the closest to our MA summer location but I’ll probably look for a non-markup dealer. Could you please comment on the driver’s headrest? I’ve seen complaints that it’s tilted too far forward and has no adjustments other than height. By the way, it’s fun to remember your Naples FL video at ElectrifyAmerica charging station. You were excited to see an Ionic 5 pulling in. Little did we know that you’d own one this soon! Coincidentally, that station is very near our winter location. You really get around. Thanks!
The headrest on the limited moves forward and back I think. Haven’t tested it yet though. Naples. Ahh yes. I hope that station is fixed soon as I will be road-tripping it down there in the next month or so! Thanks for watching!
Very nice review and lots of nice details. - The one thing that most complain about is that changing settings can be difficult and you have to drill down on menus to make changes and turn things on and off, like heated steering and seats. But my understanding is that the car has a fairly robust voice command system. It would be nice to know what can be done through voice commands. Is there a list somewhere to tell you this information. It would seem using the voice commands would be a one button solution. Any comments? Thanks
I am going to have to test out those voice commands. In my experience, in general, this tech frustrates me as it often misunderstands what I am trying to choose. I do use Siri though often for texting and making hands free calls. So maybe it is worth a look. Thanks for your feedback and thoughts!
Interesting.... 18:30. Okay, I've got a classic Ionic and I found that the car is loving go the most right side. So, If the lane departure system is on at the high way, I always go to the right or the first lane.... If you can adjust it, that will be so cool!!!
@@dconner9 thank you! Did you happen to get hit with dealer premium on your limited? Im hearing many dealers are charging over MSRP and quite significantly.

Damn good review. This was great. I am now torn though. I really like the styling of the ID 4 because it goes under the radar, and it seems taller, closer to an SUV. I would be coming from a Honda Pilot, so I like sitting up high.
Loved this review and others that Kyle and Dad did on the Ioniq 5 SO MUCH that I went out and bought one today! Here's my question: How did you attach the front license plate?
I’m considering the I5 and have zero experience. Should I purchase a level 2 charging box for my garage before hand and how can I make sure I get the right one that would be compatible . Thank you
I saw your video about your battery drain. It sounds like it maybe a fuse problem. When you put power to it the fuse resets. If it happens again try removing the positive post off then put it back on if the car start it maybe a fuse over heating. John from Cornwall, ON
That rear window might be OK in warmer weather 33.8 f isn't cold . But if you live somewhere that gets real winter like me , and you're mostly driving around town you need the wiper . I drive a 19 Kia Niro hybrid hatch and we use that wiper plenty .
I have never had the issue with the key fob on the ID4 it is very sensitive and works very well!!! On the App and software. I might say any other vehicle is more reliable than the one on the ID4
Super video / explanation👊. Nice car. It does not have over air update right ?. Likewise, it does not have wireless apple CarPlay. Greetings from Denmark🙋🏼♂️🇺🇸🇩🇰
I'd be ok with a bunch of 75kW charging stations if that means they can be cheaper and more populous. As opposed to fewer, but larger high power stations. Especially at shopping centers where you're going to be gone longer. Sometimes my car fully charges before I'm done and have to hurry or go out and move before I'm done in the store. Ideally you'd want a balance of both types. There's only so much power generation out there, so not every station can be 350kW. At least not yet until there are breakthroughs in generation and infrastructure upgrades. I suppose you COULD make every charger stall capable of 150+kW for convenience if enough power is available, and then start limiting power as more users hop on, like V3 Superchargers. The whole station has 0.5 megawatt service, and then is divided up as needed. I still have my Camry because there's just some places I have to go for work that the Tesla can't make, especially in the winter time. In northern MN, I'd be happy if there were just some more lvl 2 stations around. More hotels really need to consider getting some lvl 2 charging available. Even if they can only afford one or two 30A circuits, that would be plenty for overnight charging for most EVs.
It looks like the new version will have a wiper…at least for Canada. The rain does not come off with that design. Try winter snow and slop…it sticks to the back window like mud and does not come of from the draft.

@@tonys9413 decline*
You should keeping and steering OFF at all times until you need it.
I honestly think I saw you on Long Island, getting on to the Southern State Parkway. That car is not something you see everyday so It definitely stood out.
That was wonderful! I just changed my buying decision from a Polestar 2 to this, yay. And I will save about 7k.
Nice !!
Love Kyle’s dad in the mix! This is a great 1 week review. Thanks!
I just pulled the trigger on a Premium with 20" rims. I couldn't resist the Waveny Park flashbacks! Great car!
I value this channel cause he actually own this not sponsored or anything
I lived in New Canaan back in the 80's! Many great memories from Waveny Park. The Ioniq 5 looks like a futuristic tribute to my childhood.
Welcome home!
The seat memory not adjustable while driving makes perfect sense. If a husband or wife accentually hits the button while diving it could cause a wreck easily, if they have large difference in setting.
You shouldn't adjust a manual seat while moving, either.
Great to know… thanks!!
@@ourfamilytogether Both Taycan and Lucid Air can both pull faster speeds vs Ioniq 5.
Hi Dave, are you still driving Ioniq5 ?
I’m looking out for new EV
and it’s hard to figure out what vehicle would work it’s best for me as EV .
Hydrophobic coating for the rear window works beautifully. No need for rear wipers ;)
a lot of folks are on the spectrum of being neurosis and compulsive. its a mental thing. the compulsion of being able wipe is pretty hard to get over
This car looks insane. Every time I see a Ioniq 5 on the road whoever happens to be in the passenger seat at that time tells me that car looks like its from the future and asks what its called.
i saw my first ioniq 5 on the road in orlando about 3 days ago. in my aera minus tesla ive seen more id4 than anything only have seen 1 mach-e .
Very nice. I learned quite a few things as someone considering this model of the car. Thank you very much!
I’m really shocked I don’t see more of these on the road around me. Such a fantastic and unique looking car loaded with so many great features.
I’ve left my ID.4 charge port open more times than I care to admit.
You could use some 3M command strips and clips to secure the power cable for your tablet to the footwell wall. Then when you want it gone, just tug the command strips off.
Done. Thanks
Thank you for your first balanced impression on ionic 5, It was really useful.
Fantastic real world review 👍🏾 I’m thinking about get one as my next vehicle ☺️
My ID.4 app always works. Did you have the 21 , 22 or 2023 ID.4 . I have The 2023 ID.4 and my app always works.
Great review, Kyle learned how to dive into the important details from you !
Coldgating is the big issue with these cars.
Had my ID4 for 5 months now and have not had any issues with either the app or the fob in the ways you describe. I would say you were just unlucky but you had 3 of them so maybe I'm the lucky one.
he's searching for excuses why he traded ID.4 for the Ioniq5.. I think he miss the ID.4 Pro S, but can't admit it
On every review of the Ionic 5, the main complaint is no wireless CarPlay. There are many Bluetooth adapters, some under $50 that plugs into the same USB as the wired plugs and gives the same wireless connector. Most are very compact have a short cable fits perfectly in the console.
I heard you can also disconnect prior to 30 and then the clock starts over.
I’ve heard you have to wait an hour. Hope you are right though… gotta test it!!
@@dconner9 I heard people doing it. Lol Hahahah. Great stuff in this video.
Gotta say as a middle aged dad it’s one of the coolest looking vehicles I’ve ever seen. Home run in aesthetics in my view. I need something much bigger though (family).
This is the problem with more than 3 kids. Maybe the VW Buz when it's available
Great video, hits all the major points on the Ionic like not keeping i-pedel drive, slow cold weather charging, and lack of route planning. Other then these three missing features I love the car! Im an Ionic 5 se owner, as well as own a model 3,Y, and S plaid
The newer version does solves route and cold battery problem

I'm in Houston and test-drove the SEL - definitely will get the Limited - aiming for the RWD for the range.
Well done great video, very thorough …. I’m looking forward to the car detailing video
OMG the phantom breaking on the model 3 makes me CRAZY!
Your Dad is doing great with his videos. Keep up the good work.
Thanks! Compiling a list of things to speak about. Don’t want to be repetitive. Any feedback or questions are welcomed.

If you press the right paddle on the steering wheel without letting go, it will keep your regeneration setting on auto and you won’t have to worry about resetting the ipedal each time.
Cool! Thanks 😊. Will give that a try for sure
Still resets in mine every time I restart the car.

well dave , this is great! only im in canada and being on a 1 year wait for the present model you have ...now the new 23 will have over the air updates so i know you will want to update your model so call me to buy your present model!!!
I think it looks like a hatchback, which is a good thing in my book. I went with the Ioniq 6 recently, mostly because of the price difference, I think both are good as well as the Kia EV 6 which was the one I would have preferred, although, the Ioniq 6 looks really nice in person. ❤
Can you please provide a link to the OBD port scanner and the tablet you are using? Thanks, great review.
Link to the product is in the video description under Amazon products. Thanks for watching
If the Ioniq is charging 30 minutes at nonideal conditions then that means the vws fords bmws are there 45 minutes and longer.
Excellent Review.
Hi Dave,
Great review - as was the delivery video.
I don't have the issue with the ID.4 key fob that you describe.
If you can adjust it, that will be so cool!!!

beautiful color. Do you now if the passenger seat folds flat forward flat? Any way to get 115v 15a power from the car?
90kW would be a nice comfort zone.
This is crazy, up here in Canada, the wait time is 12-14 months for the Ioniq 5 and Ev6 and 18-24 months for the ID4. WTH is going on???
They don't make enough of them.
Wait time in Europe atm for the Ioniq5 is also 12-14 month if you want a solar or pan roof. 8-10 month if you go for the plain roof.
@@MesoScale that solar roof isn't avail in Canada. The pano roof is though.
What's the wait time in Europe for the EV6 & ID4?
It looks like the new version will have a wiper…at least for Canada. The rain does not come off with that design. Try winter snow and slop…it sticks to the back window like mud and does not come of from the draft.
