5:18 Had no idea until you mentioned that Suzuka was putting on a glove for whatever it's supposed to be a "punishment" i.e. a "surgical investigation"!
My goodness! They're not as innocent as they appear to be! 🤣 And thank you, as always, for your extremely detailed analysis!
You're one of the reasons I'm so obsessed with AG. I consider myself as officially addicted to them now!

Suki Lie...one of my favorite AG songs! 🔥

With each new AG video I watch I am more hooked by their passion, energy and innovative choreographies. Certainly not manufactured. Thanks for introducing them to me!

It took me quite a while to get into AG! but over the course of the past few months they really grew on me. Like, a lot! I'm still not always the biggest fan of the music (although quite a few of their newer tunes are certified bangers 🙂) but their energy and their humor are amazing. Thanks for pointing out the different aspects of these two videos - I'd have missed these details otherwise.

Thanks! And, of course, you're welcome. I love getting people interested in things I think are fun/cool/interesting or whatever. Too much time as a teacher, I guess :)

I'm Japanese and, as you say, I've never seen a band or music group like them. I hope they will influence and change Japanese society, where "a nail that sticks out gets hammered down".

That is exactly the phrase I think of when I see them, especially when they talk about (or perform) "standing out."

Hi Professor, I have to thank you for pointing me to AG, I absolutely love this group.
Unlike you, I am probably more in tune with their more recent work, as I am not a Jazz tragic. Not that I don't like their earlier songs, I just have a bias towards their newer stuff. However, I have to agree with you that they are such a clever outfit, and I am in awe of their confidence and outrageousness.
There truly isn't anyone else out there in this space, I hope they can grab the opportunities that are sure to continue to come for them. They have worked so hard to get where they are.

    • @AndrewHartley

Yes, I think they are genuinely unusual and doing some really exciting things. And of course, I love the new stuff too, but I'm a sucker for that Showa era pop jazz sound, and the way that broader range of instrumentation gives them more textures to work with.

Suki Lie is such a good track. I hadn't heard of them at all before this song came up as a suggestion and I absolutely love it. Will need to delve deeper :)

Definitely. I have a separate playlist on this channel for them, so you can see some of my previous walk-throughs. Strongly recommend getting hold of their first two albums plus the EPs.

    SUKI LIE

As always thank you so much for all your truly enlightening videos.
I was introduced to AG by You Tube recommending their First Take performance after watching BM's wonderful (and moving) The One First Take. Since when I have seriously been overdosing on as much AG as I can get! Truly amazing, I totally agree they are so clever, but not in a smart ass way.
Interesting you references 60's pop bands as they so remind me of the Monkees with their exuberant mayhem, and maybe The Beatles Help! era, but they are so much more than that! Like BABYMETAL you really start to get it when you see the live performances and experience the sheer commitment to what they are doing. I would say the desciption both bands deserve is "Legit". I share your joy!
Damn, I hope one day they come to the UK.
P.S. HIDEKI SMITH pre-ordered (loved Burning Shakespeare)

Legit is right. Such focus and, as you say, commitment. I wish great things for them. Thanks for picking up HIDEKI! I hope you like it. Delighted you enjoyed Burning Shakespeare! Thanks fort letting me know. Writing can be weirdly isolating.

Hi Professor,I'm always looking forward to reading your loving commentary on AG's performance.
I'm a big fan of them, especially fascinated by Mizyu's bold and delicate choreography.
Also, listening to her singing voice makes me feel sentimental and very soothing.
Thank you for choosing "Amayo No Seppun" as the background music for this video.
Maybe you like her singing voice too?
    Unlike Suzuka's direct appeal,
I feel that Mizyu's charm is the cuteness that oozes out from her passionate expression
that makes full use of her whole body.

Thanks! I love the way the girls bring different strengths and presences to the group, Mizyu included. There's fire there too, kawaii factor notwithstanding :)

I of course 1st watched your Babymetal videos but I honestly get even more from your AG videos. As a metal fan I was preprogrammed to “get” more of Babymetal. But I have really fallen into the New Leaders and your videos have helped me understand the nuisances of their performances.

Thank you! It's funny, isn't it? On paper, they shouldn't work, but there's something unique and exciting about them which is really compelling. Appreciate the comment!

@@AndrewHartley It should not. but it does. It really should not for me. I am a dinosaur stuck in metal, hard rock and the blues. Kind of hate pop but damn the variety of music and the immense charisma just hooked me on my first watch. I first saw the Otona Blue live on the roof top. I watch so much J-metal in Babymetal, Nemopshilia, Lovebites, Unlucky Morpheus etc, it just popped up one day. Glad it did!
