They are really talented and very active on socal media. The have been active for about 5 years or so. Mizyu the smallest, is actually the oldest (23) the others are 20. They are wacky but also witty. Last year they signed with 88 Rising and did Head in Clouds festival in California. Then stayed in the US while recording their latest album. They are basically anti idol and they have adult and sexual references in their songs. Suzuka sings in her natural deeper voice and it sounds good. I am sure there will be much more to come from them.

They are SO entertaining! I am very surprised how much I like them. I'm not usually into the dancing but these 4 will be kind of goofy and then bust out some awesome dance moves. Their vocals are awesome too. Reactors like yourself have introduced me to so much great music outside of my previous North American bubble. To all those Boomers who claim their isn't any more great music being made, GET OFF MY LAWN! or something.

I love the fact that stuff like the Beastie Boys has gone around the world to the far east. They consume it and then create their own music influenced by the western music they listen to but also with their own cultural influences. Then that comes back west and adds its influence to what we do.

I'm so glad you discovered them! ATARASHII GAKKO! no Leaders (New School Leaders) quickly became my favorite idol group.
"Pineapple Kryptonite" was also my first ATARASHII GAKKO! song. It appeared on my RUclips feed and I just clicked on it. My second song by them was the "Intergalactic" tribute and like you, I love the Beastie Boys.
Songs like "Pineapple Kryptonite" or "NAINAINAI" (which sounds even more like a Beastie Boys song) are more recent in their discography and "Koi Geba" (the second song you did) is earlier material, more jazzy/pop/rock that I like a little bit more.
And yes, you captured their great choreography, their humor and Suzuka's amazing voice. They have also great lyrics.
I only wish that they add a live band playing on stage with them instead of a backing track.
I suggested "Koi Geba" to Wave Potter on his last week livestream and he seems to like them as well. Champ is also a fan and I think Alan already listened to them. Yeah, so you were the last...😅
    Thank you Ryan

Their former albums are pretty good too, and covered many musical genres, from rock to jazz to r'n b and whatever else. And I'm addicted to their tiktok demented clips. But once again, they are mainly hard-working artists (they are together since they were 13 or 14 I think and never stopped working hard). Oh, and Suzuka is batshit crazy btw 😂.

Atarashii Gakko are a dance vocal troupe (dancers who sing). And they are extremely funny. Pineapple Kryptonite was created in California with Money Mark of Beastie Boys fame, and it sounds quite different from their other songs. All the girls have been in show business and modeling since they were young children.
Their real name is ATARASHII GAKKO NO LEADERS (New School Leaders).
My favorite video is then practicing their routine for オトナブルー/OTONA BLUES (Grown-up Blues): ruclips.net/video/XCLajejueU0/видео.html . It’s hilarious what MIZYU does when she sings, “I get it. You want it”

@@danbuter It's not sacrilege, it's just taste haha as long as you don't disrespect KOM_i's work, I share your thoughts.
I personally love KOM_i, maybe it's because in the last few months (since I found the group thanks to Utaha) I've consumed tons of footage of KOM_i performing live, and I got caught, she's just unique, seeing her flow with the music and the audience is something I've never seen before in an artist.

Atarashii Gakko is awesome! I've been following them for almost two years now. They only do the singing and dancing stuff, and have back-up bands. Still, they are fun and very talented. A lot of their early stuff is more jazz than hip hop. They also have a short series of videos explaining life in Japan, like going to school and riding the train. It's really cool.
Also, I'm pretty sure the hitchhiker in the Pineapple Kryptonite video was Manny Mark.

Sugoi! I see you have found AG! I found them in January 2020 when they changed management, I'm sorry I didn't suggest them to you earlier as I felt that you may not like them, that was my mistake and for that gomenasai, I have never been a jazz fan, however it's their earlier work with a jazz like construction that first caught my attention, song's like otana blue ex... I was instantly smitten, this group of girls are absolutely insane and Suzuki is unhinged in the best of way's, the way she can express mood changes in her facial expressions is beyond word's, I should have known a musician of your caliber would like them, I won't make that mistake again, they are a lot of fun and I'm always looking for their next offering with anticipation, have fun watching these ladies, I'm sure that you will. ps. There's quite a few live performances of them out there, some with musicians backing them up, high energy fun entertainment.

Great double shot. AG are a very physical dance/vocal group. They have traditionally had a light jazz sound but as you point out they have delved in to A more hip-hop sort of sound. I think you meant Money Mark (Not Manny Mark) when talking about the ex-Beastie Boys producer, who did in fact produce Pineapple Kryptonite (he also played a cameo in the video, he was the hitchiker on the Nevada road with the Area 51 sign).
Atarashii Gakko also played their first lives show in the USA back in October last year (I think it was October, don't hang me if I am wrong) at the Rose Bowl The girls even played a cover of a Beastie Boys song in that show. It's worth a look.
I am pleased that you are starting to get the idea that you can be a band, even if the lead performers don't play instruments. This acceptance will help you understand Asian bands/groups better and will surely enhance your experience across a wide range of genres. Keep up the good work.

If you are going to check these girls out, there are two "must see" songs. Otono Blue (Adult blues), which is best seen in a live stream they did that can be found under the video title of "【オトナブルー】新しい学校のリーダーズ LIVE 2020.06.21" or, if you would prefer raw video that is evidence of these girls paying their dues the way people think Idol groups do not, the same song performed in front an audience with a live band at a sweaty small live music venue with the video title 【オトナブルー】新しい学校のリーダーズ LIVE 2020.02.01)." Then, for a true Beastie Boys influenced Hip Hop song, "NAINAINAI", the best version of which can be found under the title of "ATARASHII GAKKO! - NAINAINAI (LIVE FROM THE TRAIN CAR)". In addition, their dance practice videos to these songs really give a glimpse into their quirky, not taking themselves seriously, personalities.

Atarashii Gakko!, another great find in my search for cool japanese music about a year ago. Their first two albums (and the only ones atm) are an absolutely crazy fusion of jazz, pop, punk, dance... that somehow always work. Part of merit is obviously from its producer in those two albums H Zett M (pseudonym of Masayuki Hiizumi), a fantastic fusion-jazz musician and producer, he also plays the piano in all early Atarashii Gakko songs btw
One of the best things about AG! is that they're always a ton of fun to watch and listen. Suzuka specially, she's one of those natural born artists and entertainers, a true driving force in both vocals and dancing. They create their own choreographies, as you surely know by now... there are many AG! fans in mearcord lol

Thank you for the amazing reaction! I find it funny nobody has mentioned the meaning behind Koi Geba, so I'll try to explain :)
AG take on a lot of really heavy themes between their fun songs, and this one talks about a relationship between a teacher and a student, something that is apparently too common in Japan (and I imagine in most of the world).
I feel they are able to convey this while still being hilarious and entertaining.
Thank you again, I hope this helped :)

    (talking mostly about 2nd song)
Now this is modern pop sound I can stand behind. Let's call it Pop Avantgarde!
REAL instruments behind it, with REAL music and musicians playing and not just overproduced/overused trap beat and "cool" vocals. One can hear that they really took their time with production on this one especially on precussion, it kinda blows me away. And that layered fuzz guitar behind it with bass that dances around everything... ohh + her vocals on top.. such a cool blend.
Music video shenaningans and coreography aside (which is only a huge plus for me). I would really love to know if the lyrics are as wacky as well.
    I like it.
    EDIT:
Didn't even notice the piano until the "solo" part.. soo nice

If anyone has the old Kannai Devil interview episodes, they were very funny and a great watch. Unfortunately they were removed from the youtubes.
