  • Suzuki 6HP DF6A outboard during and after the break in procedure. I achieved a top speed of 19km/h on a 16' 225lbs fishing fiber boat at WOT (full throttle). It was made on lake Ruban, National Park of Jacques-Cartier, Quebec Canada.

    Super fun video, thanks for taking me out of my office for a few minutes. :)
    (I have a Tohatsu 6HP on the way, I wanted a Zukie, but every dealer said there was a 3 month wait! )

      We bought one in 2017, and have had nothing but problems. The exhaust valve seizes up if it is stored longer than a few weeks. Warranty repair was unsuccessful. Has to go back in the shop again for the same problems.

    I have a 2 years old Suzuki DF5 long stem, not many hours on it yet. But surely is a very good engine within it's category. As most other small four strokes I believe it's a bit more rumbling than my old Johnson 4HP 1998 (2cyl./2 stroke).

    Hi
    Just a heads up...hp.outboard is not the only factor that determines the speed of a boat, haul design, how deep a boat sits in the water (re beam width) length and weight of haul, and load ,and prop pitch all are critical factors in speed...hope this helps

    We bought a new Suzuki DF6AS2 in 2017. We have had constant problems with the exhaust valve jamming up during storage. It has happened four times in 2.5 years. It has gone to the shop under warranty, and had the whole valve train and cylinder head replaced, and we still have the same problem. It is going back into the shop again. Seems as though we have a lemon engine with a factory defect. Suzuki has been no help.

    • @rodgraff1782
      @rodgraff1782 4 года назад

      Yes maybe it is a bad motor, but I’m not the only one having these problems. That’s my definition of a lemon. It could be due to to tight of valve clearance, or in compatible materials used on the valve stem or guide. Suzuki has a corrosion problem with their exhaust valve. Moisture collects in this area due to the wet exhaust, and causes the valve to stick if it is stored more than a few weeks. Later models are supposed to have some sort of retrofit to vent the moisture out of this area. Mine is still down, as the shop isn’t returning phone calls since COVID. Started. I go out of warranty in October, and will be stuck with a boat anchor. Suzuki will not admit to a problem with these, and would rather take the negative feedback. Stay away from these motors. There are at least four others with the same problem on the various forums.

    Nice speed. What prop do you have? I bought the same motor recently but last weekend was only getting about 10.5 km/h. Couldn't get it to plane. 10.5' inflatable boat that's only about 90 lbs with my wife dog and myself. Maybe 550 lbs total weight boat motor and everything.

    • @MrMr77777
      @MrMr77777  8 лет назад

      I have the original 7" 1/2 x 7" pitch which comes with it. The only thing, I could'nt get higher than 4700 RPM with it. I was alone in the boat, a total weight of 50+180+215 = around 450lbs. The speed was achieved at 19km/h when I sat in the middle seat of the fiber boat with a tiller extension. I will call Suzuki to know why the RPM did not reach the 5200 RPM...it is suppose to be between 4750-5750 at full throttle.

    • @questwest9135
      @questwest9135 8 лет назад +1

      Probably the higher pitch prop. I took the stock prop off mine and put one with a 6" pitch to get higher revs. Still slow but maybe just too much weight.

    Hi Sebas!
    I am thinking of getting this for a 14' aluminum Peterborough. (Wide nose, flat bottom)
    After seeing your video, it is hard to judge if the motor is loud or not.
    I have a 4HP evinrude 2 stroke, and was going to upgrade just for the quietness, and cleanliness of the 4 strokes.
    Also, Jon, do you have the DF6A or the DF6? 2016 engines were the DF6 I believe.
    How long does a 1L tank get you on a 6HP? I am debating bringing it on the quieter sides of Baskatong, but don't want to get stuck out there without gas.

    • @sebastienlambert9512
      @sebastienlambert9512 8 лет назад

      I cannot judge on the sound level of the DF6A...I mostly use it for trolling when I go fishing. At idle it is very quiet. I use to have a Tohatsu 3.5HP 4 stroke which is about the same noise level. For the fuel consumption, I would say it's about 1 liter per hours at 3/4 throttle. So, a full internal tank. I always bring with me an emergency 5 liters fuel tank just in case.

    You are sailing motorboat with a manual gear box and you are not wearing the kill cord. If you fall off you never catch your boat. Not wearing the kill cord is just stupid. I'm buying this engine next month that's why I'm here, to watch some videos of it running. This is going to be my 4th engine. Safety first, fun after so please wear your kill cord or sdome day you could become a fish food.

    • @therealjackfisher
      @therealjackfisher 5 лет назад

      Are you dumb or stupid? This engine goes 20km/h on small boats. Minn Kota goes like 3km/h This engine can take you on a 40km ride on one tank Minn Kota can take you on a 3km run on one battery. I have plenty of engines I also have 55lbs electric motor and I know what im talking about. For electric motor I have to carry 2 batterys and one is a big 30kg truck battery. I also got 15HP mercury and 3.5hp Hangkai. Underpowered my ass. It runs very nice. If you were a boater you would know better what you just wrote here. A pile of BS. Boat speed is not determined by the engine size but the drag it creates. The bigger the boat the heavier it is the slower it is. Bad shape of a boat create more drag. Wind is another factor, if its a river the flow is another factor. Last week I was on sea with my rubber dingy and a fisher came with his big heavy boat with 2x12hp engines. He could barely go faster then I did on my chinese 3.5hp, If I had this suzuki engine on my boat he would never catch up with me.
