Oh my days! I was blown away with a technicality of preparation and substitution options for both types of vegan. This is best OKRO I've seen so far. Thank you!
OMGosh!!! Just finished eating this. Man, you put me to work for it though. Last night, I made annatto oil and date syrup from scratch for another recipe. Also, made the tomato sauce for the meatballs I'll be trying next, but this recipe was packed with flavor. I love okra!!! Glad I found your channel. Love what I'm seeing. This was my first time trying one. You didn't give the amount for the annatto oil and since I don't know what it's supposed to taste like, I couldn't do to taste. lol, but I initially used 1/2 cup but after it simmered it was still separated so I just dredged some of it out. Base came out good. I hate the texture and look of mushrooms bit like the taste. I just started eating them last year and I am grown, grown. I hated seeing mushrooms growing randomly so I learned to hate them but I'm trying to lose weight with alkaline meals so here I am. I really appreciate the content. I'm making the bulgogi tonight as well. I'm half k so we'll see if I like that. I already made beef bulgogi today for the fam. Anyway, couple of questions???? Can I use ground papaya leaves instead of papaya seeds? How much annatto oil did you use in this recipe? Can you make annatto oil with just the ground annatto seeds? If you were to make this with meat, what meat would it be?
Oooh this looks so good. I like okra. This is the 2nd video I have watched of yours and it has inspired me to not only get back on my plant based eating but incorporating more alkaline vegan recipes to my diet.
Interesting! I remember vegan okro being a lot less complicated though and going by your choice of spices and herbs you are not trying to keep its taste closer to the regular Nigerian okro. I appreciate the vision channels like yours appear to me to have, making Nigerian food more internationally accepted and accessible than it is at the moment and rightly so yet I cant help feel a tinge of sadness for like my elderly Irish bestie would wince when she saw some Irish stews being cooked I fear that soon though everyone will know and love jollof, egusi, okro, they would become a shadow of their true selves as every culture I know has traded authenticity for popularity. Love the vegan alternative to crayfish.

I just saw someone making this the traditional way and I thought what can I use instead of meat and was thinking tofu but the mushrooms make way more sense. I can’t wait to make it.
Oga, well done fellow villager. This is the day I got one of the recipes for my vegan meal prep business. No wahala if the business gets too big🙏🏿, the money no dey waste timeeeee.
Wow, Manny this looks absolutely amazing 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 😍 Thanks so much for always offering/suggesting different options for both vegans and alkaline vegans 🙌🏽 Although, I didn't grow up eating okra, I did have a neighbor that cooked the best sweet okra dish 😋. In Trinidad we have a dish called Callaloo. The main ingredients are ocra and dasheen (tarro) leaves, with the stalk. When we can get dasheen leaves, we use spinach. Other parts of the Caribbean (Jamaica is one) has an actual plant they call callaloo. It looks like what you've used. It might also be called amaranth, in the US.
Thank you for this recipe. I am 62 and vegan 7 years. I will just use a soy substitute for the meat. I’ve never seen such a delicious looking soup. I wonder what it would taste like if eggplant 🍆 were added? Btw, I’m in Pennsylvania? Here I believe we would call calaloo spinach. 😃
Thank you! That would be delicious! Soy packs a ton of umami flavor. Nigerian cooking is all about that... Umami. Yes, I think most people in the US call it spinach too. 7 years is a huge accomplishment 💪🏿
@@Grubanny You’re welcome. I’m so happy to have found your channel. I became vegan after watching what the Standard American diet did to my parents and grandparents. I was a caregiver for 17 years to my elderly parents and my grandmother. None of them were overweight but they suffered from strokes and heart failure from clogged arteries (arteriosclerosis). Their doctors told them “hardening of the arteries” is inherited. The only advice they were given was to eat a banana daily and limit salt. I only wish they knew there was a whole different way of eating which does not involve animal products. Your videos are so beautiful and inspiring. Thank you again. ❤️
Hello from Cali 👋 I recently started on Dr. Seibe alkaline program . Your recipes have been so much help. God bless you. By the way you have a sexy voice. Obcourse I subscribe 😊
Hey Susana! Thank you so much! I love the Bay Area. Visited there a lot back in the day. I'm glad you're enjoying my recipes. I'll keep them coming... and the voice too 😉
First of all, when is your restaurant coming? Where will it be? cookbook? Catering? I might have missed it in an older video.. but how do you clean and prep your mushrooms properly.. I assume it is different for the different types.
Hi Patrick, no plans for a restaurant as of right now. No catering either. Cookbook is in the works. I'll announce as soon as it comes out. Some people use a brush, some people use cloths soaked in water, some people use running water. It's up to you
My parents are from Haiti, epina is what they call it. But they also call spinach, the same way. After doing a little bit of research, I realize it was called amaranth greens in the states.
Epina huh? I'm adding that to my ingredients name directory. Thanks for letting me know. Yeah, it took a while for me to find out as well. I'm glad it's called callaloo at the Farmer's Market. I would've walked past it for a 50 years without knowing 😅
Hello Manny. Looks like there's a chicken wing in the soup🤩 I've never tried okra before but for this recipe I can't wait to try it👌callaloo is known as imbuya or amaranth greens in South Africa 🙌
Right?! Those mushrooms are deceitful lol. Give it a try. You just might enjoy it. Imbuya huh? That's straight outta the motherland 🌍 ❤ Very interesting. I'll add that to my culinary vocabulary. Thanks a lot Lihle!
I come from the Deep South where when I was living there we at collard greens and cornbread the same way you eat okra stew, with our hands 😊 It just wasn’t as tasty when you ate with a fork. 😂 .
Oh yes! You know the joys of eating with your hands. It's natural and yes, the food tastes even better lol. All of my friends know me, It's either a spoon or my hands. In my book, forks are for spaghetti or noodles. I don't play around 😅
